It would be interesting if the Tyranid invasions cause a wrinkle between Guillemen and Calgar. He being a seasoned campaigner against the Tyranid, and his father maybe not heeding his advice, nor even asking for it. I would also think there could be an interesting flashback to the great crusade and some conversation including malacdor, Horus, abaddon (and maybe a few of his favorite brethren) in a discussion of uncounted evils beyond the borders of the galaxy and the need to fortify against it. Maybe making Abaddon question his position, even seeing why he needs to take over the galaxy as ‘demons’ are the only way to make sure tyranids cannon gain biomas

iron warriors v nyds would be excellent, especially if they bring out the lord of iron himself. Would love a retcon about his ascension. Seeing him in what is essentially a dreadnought would go a way to explain his relative absence from the setting since the scouring as he presumably would have been busy stabilize his condition and trying to fix himself without resorting to warpcraft, only engaging in conflict as a legion when he needed something or couldn't avoid it. The great rift gives him a section of the materium where his legion could take as an empire for himself, if the opening of the rift happenes to coincide with his the finalization of his dreadnought sarcophagus he would be in an excellent position if he can keep the nyds, other chaos forces, and the imperium at bay. Plus a primarch dreadnought model would be incredible. It just feels right for Perturabo to be a mobile artillery piece

I honestly feel if 10th gives another Imperial Primarch (though personally I don't want them to give one) Rogal Dorn would work the best. The Tyranids shadow in the Warp causes the astropaths to loose communication and usually the last bit of contact is a cry for help, except one planet whose last words were 'Our walls are holding'. Guilliman launches a Crusade to reach this world with the Imperial Fists and their Successor Chapters in the Vanguard as the legion of old to reclaim and fortify a line of worlds to keep in contact with Terra. He assembled the different Chapter Masters to vote on expanding the Last Wall protocol to other worlds that the Emperor and if in place his regent declare to important to loose. When the Legion does make it they are brought to the one responsible for its defence, Rogal Dorn.

PERTURABO!!!! Man, I hope that he comes back into the setting proper. Not Daemon Perty, just regular Perturabo. I think it would be far more impactful to have him overcome his Daemon-ness and surpass Chaos Primarchs. It makes a ton of sense to have him working with Vashtorr as well as Perturabo was all about technology and advanced war machines. And now it all makes sense as to why the 13th black crusade succeeded where the other failed. Perty. Same guy who allowed the Traitors to make it as far as they did during the Heresy.

Money says a three way fight between the imperium, chaos and the nids which ends with the imperium hurt but still there as always, chaos in the warp plotting and abaddon has failed somehow… and the hive fleet is destroyed but just a fraction of a much larger fleet yet to come. Call me a cynic but I think the only real quest here is what will Vashtor be by the end or is this how they replace slannesh?

I collected and played Tyranids all the way back in 3rd, 4th and 5th edition (also Khorne Berserkers) and I love to see them in a major roll in future lore. Given that I left the whole hobby for more than 10 years and only got in it again with 9th edition, what will be recommended books to follow up on everything? Back in the days, I read Gaunts Ghosts and some Codexes and Rule Books. I did follow up on the Primaris lore (Fall of Cadia, Devastation of Baal - both great and no comparison to the old days) but I feel I'm missing a lot of stuff, specially going forward into 10th edition. I probably will not start collecting and painting again, but I love the 40k universe - by far the best SiFi theme for me. @Wolf Lord Rho: Your videos are awesome - thank you!

10th edition looks to be a reinvigoration of the franchise. Reusing an old storyline wouldn't make sense since it would either make the whole defense of Baal and everything connected to it meaningless if the Nids win or like a Saturday morning cartoon villain failing at the same plan week after week.

I am hoping the Imperium and Chaos will each get a proper focus on a special army made of members of some different factions that fight for their side. Perturabo could have a new Trident to act as the main front line commanders, being reinforced by cultists who worship Vashtor, along with Red Corsair's Chaos Lord for the fleet Admiral. There is a rumor of a new Chaos faction to be added (non-Astarte) either Lost and the Dammed or Dark Mechanicum if so whichever one of them is made.

I've theorized before about Tyranids and Chaos coming into conflict with all the life in the galaxy as the prize, the souls of the sentient being the cattle that feed Chaos and the raw biomass the prize for Tyranids. I like your idea about Iron Warriors defending the galaxy, even more so if the threat is so enormous that the Imperial Fists also enact the Last Wall and we see Dorn return at the same time as his hated rival. Neither one of those two should have the spotlight alone without the other being around to be grumpy about it. With the forces of Chaos ever-scheming, I wonder about what could come after that. What if through that Tyranid/Chaos conflict, we saw Tyranids who consumed Chaos forces start to demonstrate the sentience and emotions Chaos represent at an individual level, weakening the hivemind. Chaos Tyranids as a way to avoid declaring a final victor and make sure the galaxy keeps getting worse?

It should be noted that bulk of the Swarm proper is always depicted to be beneath the galactic pane, and a hive fleet had already invaded from that direction. They could show up literally everywhere, not conforming to the expectations of their food. The only less likely direction is from above.

@Wolf Lord Rho what I'd like to see out of the Tyranids is some sort of crushing victory against the Xenos. Something really big like wrecking the Silent Kings plans or cutting off the Tau from the rest of the Galaxy. There's a D&D campaign called We Be Goblins in which a paragraph reads #Paraphrasing "This scene is meant to set the stage for how brutally evil goblins are so the party won't think of them as knock off villains", if the Tyranids won a huge event that changed the game I think we'd value them a lot more.

I have posited this theory elsewhere but I think it would be a neat bit of lore if the origin of the Tyranids in the Galaxy is because the Emperor signaled them before the Heresy. He was planning on moving some portion of Humanity into his Webway and was going to shut the door behind him and let the Tyranids devour the the rest of the Galaxy and maybe even the Warp. This maybe also explains why he "allowed" some of the Primarchs to be corrupted. Basically, having Chaos Legions in the Immaterium allows the Tyranids to meet them and evolve to attack the Warp. Of course, this all went awry and he could be now facing the music. Such as Tyranids fighting Plague Marines and assimilating some of their genetic material and corruption......that can't end well for anyone else.

there is artwork somewhere by GW(dont remember where i have seen it) showing the hive threat as a big mouth comming up from "under" the galaxy plane, and every "hive fleet" are like an octopus arm/tendril. The hive fleets we have encountered are just the scouts. The tyranids are GWs end time faction, for when they need one. And in the End its not that they are drawn in by the Astronomican, but that the dying Emperor is acctually drawing them in. He tried to save humanity, but failed, so to start from a fresh slate, he need to whipe the galaxy clean from all life. warhammer 50K is the Emperor repopulating the galaxy with seeds stored away in a hidden webway chamber. (my theory)

Some issues you didn't get to are that the systems that were involved in both the Macharius and Sabbat World Crusades are in the Crosshairs here. As well as the Khornate Sanguinary worlds. The Forge Worlds of Urdesh and others in the Belt of Iron ought to be affected. Cassandra VanLeskus'' Fleet Tertius is in Pacificus and was supposed to swing around into Segmentum Tempestus...up to now they had been steamrolling Chaos forces.... Both the Iron Hands and the Iron Snakes are in that direction. The Iron Snakes' home of the Reef Stars have a strong Ork and Drukari presence. The Drukari CANNOT allow large swaths of their enslaving grounds to just get gobbled up. The Galactic Northwest is the ancient home of the Eldar, So you should see some Eldari and Exodite presence too.

They manipulate gravity to warpspace and achieve a version of ftl. It slows the closer it gets to a planet (depends on writer) so a world may have years or decades to prepare if it even can. Tyranids are like zombies it's their number that is the threat and the slow inevitable advance that is the terror.

If each tendril of the hive fleet is just a relatively small portion used as a pincer attack then the main force would cause a galaxy wide battle. I dont want to say the imperium and chaos would have to join forces but they would atleast have to stop fighting each other and throw everyrthing at the nids for it to possibly not even work.

@@captnwinkle that's Hive Fleet Tiamat, they're pretty cool too. Kronos is a fleet that created in response to the increased presence of Warp threats due to the Great Rift. The Nids can't eat Warp Stuff, but now they can't be ignored. Kronos's strategy focuses on ranged combat to reduce losses to Chaos to an absolute minimum. Their greatest strength however is their intensified Shadow in the Warp effect, which despite it's shorter range, can banish all but the strongest Warp Entities and Anomalies, it has been reported that even Warp Storms die down in their wake. The reason I think they'll get more love is that: One, they're Anti-Chaos and Two, they specifically follow in the wake of our main man, Hive Fleet Leviathan, picking up the resources the fleet leaves behind for them or taking out any worlds that the splinter fleets softened up but lost and of course just any world they can handle. They specifically seek out worlds along the rift that are full of cultists/psykers, as they still have biomass and will feel the full effect of the Shadow in the Warp, making them easy pickings. Little by little, Hive Fleet Kronos is stitching up the Great Rift, I love their Colors and their niche, they have such personality and I hope to see more of them. I just think they're neat!

I used to like the theory that the tyranids we see are just a small part of something bigger surrounding the galaxy, but i think how big that force would be isnt as imposing as I used to think. If it were THAT big, there wouldn't really be a need for the strategy the tyranids are using. They seem to conserve biomass which, they get the same amount of no matter how many die when they take a planet because dead tyranids would just be more biomass. It wouldn't make sense for them to hesitate, especially at this point when they could drop a galaxy sized fleet on the milky way if they actually had one.

Not a Tyranid player at all, but my one go to "headcanon" for the Tyranids, is the ending of the Alfabusa "The Shadow Over Immateriums" video! As it really shows how grimdark and infinitesimal the wars of Imperium, Eldar, Necron and Orks++ really are, compared to the "Great Devourer", and how beyond ****** the 40k galaxy really is :p Ps: Yes, I would very much like to see the Tyranids become a true treath towards Chaos as well, as until now it has mostly been a "good guy" races issue...

I think the forces of chaos really need to take more of a proactive effort in fighting against the Tyranids, not only because of the Tyranids consuming planets Chaos need to conquer, but more so because every planet consumed by the Tyranids is one less planet of souls to fuel and feed chaos. While individual planets won't make much of a dent, entire areas of the galaxy becoming devoid of all life would surely have a corresponding negative impact on the immaterium somehow. The Tyranids may be the worst threat to Chaos in the long run, for their victory would mean Chaos will starve and cease to exist.

I'm more interested on what the Hive would bring to the table when pitted against the Primarchs. Imagine the Hive Mind itself physically on the battlefield. This is like the C'tan during the War in Heaven when they have bodies of necrodermis.

What if the iron warriors wear actually aligned to that new god of machinery can't think of his name the one trying to become a chaos god and that's why they have robot limbs not the fact they cut off their gifts given by the chaos gods it that it's been the ones gifts all along. Have no idea if that would work or not but think it would be cool

Problem I have was if the main tyranid fleet arrived(everything till now where considered small) the galaxy would end. Since gw can't have that we know especially how they were treated with the bhaal story arc they only use them as a minor side threat. What really needs to be shown is how even the forces of chaos are betting beaten back by them, without any badly written demon wiping them all out.

The Tyranids have come in force, the Tau are beset hyper evolving Tyranid force. The former Ork Empire of Octarius has been destroyed by the Tyranids. The supposed corden set up by the Imperium is as leaky as a tea bag! Now, to add to this, the Tyranids are building their own version of the Phaeros!!!! Former Inquisitor Lord Kryptman still monitering things, but how much power does he still have in the Imperium!

The threat of this big fleet will be diminished if the Lion is not held up somewhere. The Dark Angels Legion with full power would break it. Also so would the Silent King. They need something more than numbers now. Edit: having the Swarmlord fight Guilliman or the Lion and just get a taste of the Primarch's genetic material then dying. Coming back meaner then ever would be great. Guilliman is a better bet as the Lion is just to powerful. However he has to avoid the Emperor's sword.
