To be fair, Magbus hobbled his defences, sent away his fleets, and withheld his strength from the battle at Prospero. I assume the Wolves were stronger then than now. So i can't see how Russ could win. I expect Sisters of Silence, Grey Knights etc to be used. So Magnus surely would too. It would be a lot more interesting for Magnus to win. Whoever attacks him should be humbled.

I really want to see Russ return as an old one eyed warp Odin like figure, to be the loyalists psyker primarch. Russ made many mistakes that he regretted, and his trip to find the tree of life would be a great opportunity to mirror Odin's hanging and sacrifice at Mimirs well, and provide the opportunity to make Russ and Magnus into mirrors of eachother

I think with the return of the Lion and his redemption of the Fallen, Russ could come back and acknowledge his faults and hates, and officially sanction Rune Priests as psykers. He was already went through “Thor like” trials , so by going through the Odin trials he could come back stronger than before

@@ianporcaro1874 you all get hung up on the rune priests. The warp is how you view it. The Rune Priests focus the warp, but specifically the spirit of Fenris. They don't consort with demons, and they don't manifest or use powers the same way as normal practitioners. They have built in safeguards and total lack of trust in the powers. There are actual practical differences that make them very different.

What I mean is, the same views that the Lion has on his "fallen/Risen Sons" could be a similar view with Russ and Psyker stuff. each returned Primarch has had to be "more" than they were in 30k. To deny the differences between rune priests and conventional sorcerers is way more ignorant than to deny the utility of said conventional sorcerers, as rune priests aren't bound to the warp that the rest of the Galaxy is accustomed to, but to a pocket niche part of it although this isolated part follows the same principles as the warp it got some key differences the first one is obviously the lack of the warp gods influence, and the second one difference in the way of interaction with this dimension.

@@LoveStrangeDr Neither are super dead, only Horus is dead dead, Big E slapped him so hard he destroyed his soul so that chaos couldn't bring him back. If Fabius was able to make a perfect clone of Ferrus it means primarchs that didn't have their souls obliterated like Horus had his, can be brought back to life. Sanguinus' soul has probably been shattered (not unlike Magnus) part of it is Sanguinor and apparently part is trapped on the Vengful Spirit. If the shards were united and BA still have the body the angel could theoretically be brought back. Sure it's a long shot but his model would be like printing money for GW so who knows.

As for sanginius you got sanguinor and the black angel which are basically just 2 aspects of sanginius and sanginius literally talked to dante and stopped him from dying in devastation of baal so he could be resurrected as well tho for that maybe there is a plot where you would have to free a soul shard thats stuck on vengful spirit

He’d be the opposite number of the Lion in Imperium Sanctus. Where Dante and Guilliman are tasked with a more custodial roles in the two halves of the Imperium the Lion and Russ can go on offence.

It could happen as long as a few loyalist wemt Chaos too. Guilliman eating Abaddon after Emps condones religion, and becoming the true warmaster, reorganising chaos into a far better machine. Lorgar and Magnus redeemed? Personal favourite would be a resurrected Kurze who is still insane but sees a new end with him reunited with his dad so kills Demon Primarchs. "I will brook no compromises". Then several primarchs in gets killed by Lion or Russ or Corax who dont realise he has switched teams.

It is somewhat ambiguous as to what Magnus actually knows about Russ’ location. If Magnus knew Russ’ exact location within the Eye why not attack him there? Magnus’ forces, and Magnus himself, would be at maximum power in the Eye.

Leman who ignored the Emperor's orders and attacked Magnus. Magnus tried so many times to make up for his mistakes, the reason he didn't fight back during the Burning of Prospero was because he was literally still trying to help the Emperor, he was even going to rejoin the Imperium and sit on the golden throne for the Emperor if only he had been allowed to keep his legion. Magnus is the only primarch worthy of redemption, not to mention that the Emperor literally needs Magnus if he ever wants to step off the golden throne without the webway fucking blowing up.

What I would love to see is the return of Vulkan and the emperor at some point since him a vision as to the location of rogol dorn let's just say for argument's sake he's being held by the iron warriors and perturabo Vulkan constructs dorn a new armor a new chain sword and the armor is complete with the emperor's thunderclaw seems fitting since he lost a hand And then Vulkan weeds the salamanders with a couple successor chapters and the imperial fists with the crimson fists and a black Templar contingent on a crusade to rescue his brother Then you can get a great confrontation with Vulkan and dorn battling a demon Primark perturabo

Seeing the art at the beginning makes me feel that Leman Russ looks better with red instead of blonde. I think the red fits with his Norse-influenced thematics well too. As red hair in Norse mythology is associated with strength and savagery. Also, several mighty Norse gods have red hair.

I would prefer this, too. Expand the Empire of Prospero to nearby systems as well, make is roughly the same size as the T'au empire. Free the Thousand Sons from the Changer of Ways, still aligned with Chaos but not directly shackled by it. Keep them enemies of the Imperium however. A beacon of hope for all psykers fleeing oppression.

I am torn between who would be a more epic comback. Russ, Corax or Dorn. Despite my personal biases i do think Russ would be the most fitting given the recent resurgence of the lion. That would be an incredible reunion to see.

A thought about why Magnus' mini empire is being left alone: warp routes aren't static or reliable. It may be that Magnus is powerful enough that he can alter the fabric of the warp itself and render the region effectively impassable to anyone outside. In such a situation, it doesn't make a lot of sense to front load any defense of the area; Magnus can see what's arrayed against him and just wait until he'd built enough force up to overcome whatever guilliman left to stop him. Instead, it makes more sense to post sentries and forces designed to try and hold as long as they can while sending fast messages to notify the emperium. Such forces wouldn't be meant to win, just be hard to bypass and able to hopefully survive for a while. Raven guard and imperial fist successor marines supported by Talarn imperial guardsmen and knights would be ideal. An additional thought-we know that certain primarchs imitate certain historical figures with legendary reputations, but what if Russ isn't a copy of who we expect? What if he comes back physically broken but a more dangerous thinker than ever before, in a similar way to Ivar the Boneless irl, being disabled physically but such an incredible tactician that he is simply undefeatable. Perhaps he could be modeled be carried on an immense shield by 4 marines, and then 1 per battle shape-shift along with his attendants into a Demon primarch sized wulfen, taking up that shield and the emporer's spear.

Khan is cool and all, but even if he returned, what would he really do? He's not a particularly good matchup against the Tyrannids or the Necrons, or general Chaos for that matter. I think another foe would really need building up prior for the Khan's return to mean anything.

Being underestimated doesn't matter much against the current greater threats of the galaxy because whether they look at you with contempt or pity they're all going to more-or-less just send everything they have at you every time. If the Tau, Drukhari, Votann, or even Orks were being presented as the next major crisis, then I think Jaghatai could shine. Right now, he'd be cool, but it wouldn't be an explosive triumph like the return of Roboute was. If they DID bring back the Khan right now, they'd be wasting his climactic return at the same time as wasting great opportunities for the return of Vulkan or Russ, who are a more natural counter to Leviathan. The problem is that the daemon primarchs are immortal. The loyalists aren’t. You can’t bring a character like Leman Russ and immediately have him killed off for good. But you can kill Magnus multiple times and it still doesn’t remove him from the setting.

Also Magnus was not just fighting Russ, he was using his powers to help his sons every chance he got. Russ gets a lot of credit for being a good fighter but when you actually read it, Russ got lucky, and without the custodies there to help him the T-sons probably would have won that fight.

I think what’s going to happen is Magnus and Russ will fight with Magnus coming out on top and capturing him. Then Corax will save him and break him out. I believe that with the traitor primarchs failing so often lately there has to be a win on their side at some point.

The thing I have never really been able to understand particularly with the 1000 Sons is that after they were sundered at Prospero and then beaten again during the siege and then the consequences of the Rubric, how are there any of them left? Like, with the Word Bearers it is easily understandable because they are always recruiting and at the time of the heresy they had nearly double that of every legion, and they almost make the 1000 Sons redundant because they do all the sorcery and warp spaghetti. So how does Magnus have any followers that aren’t just chaos spawn or demons? I also would rather see the wolves brought about to battle something more than just Magnus. The last major Psycher threat they had to deal with came much more from the Grey Knights than from Magnus himself. Unless they try to make it so that Magnus starts to build his legion again similar to how they played it up with Mortarion, but we haven’t see that described anywhere as yet. Also, it would have to be something pretty incredible to pull in Leman as the solution against Magnus when there would without question be intervention from the Grey Knights and Custodes.

Tbf there are relatively few Tsons actually left, and they are all incredibly powerful psykers. The majority of Tsons are just lifeless husks who could theoretically be re-animated by warp magic if they were "defeated"

Russ's struggle between his humanity and blindly following orders is at the heart of this. Magnus wants Russ's curse to take a hold of him so he can put him down like a rabid dog. Hence he had something to do with the Wulfen 13th Company's return and manipulating the imperium to turn on the Space Wolves for fear of corruption. Magnus wishes to turn the imperium on the Space Wolves and Russ equating Russ to no better than the bloodthirsty Chaos god Khorne. I believe the vision Russ had was of that end. Russ's armor was found on Rudra in a Temple of Horus which leads speculation that Russ seeks how Horus manipulated him into destroying Prospero blindly and Russ sought this out to combat Magnus's blind dog comment. Russ's Realization that Magnus was partially right was part of his vision. Whatever Russ saw in his vision going to Terra and the Golden throne Russ knew that was not enough to speak to his father. So he did not disappear into the Eye of Terror but to the planet Molech where the Emperors origins background plays a part. Molech in my eyes makes the most sense where Russ would go to try and track down his father on that plane within the immaterium portal. Horus himself came here trying to track down the Emperors powers/origins at one point. Russ found that out on Rudra im speculating and is now trapped slash stuck either on Molech or within the portal the Emperor and Horus used deep within its fortress. Who what or how he is being imprisoned is the question and whether or not the Inquistion plays a role in his imprisonment is the real spice factor.

Ok, this is a bit off the wall and way out on a limb that is about to break off Yggdrassil so take it with a grain of salt. I'm driving down the road listening to The Helwinter Gate for the umpteenth time. Baldur has just seen shadowy wolf figures for the third time that are trying to lead him down a different path from the rest of Jarnhammer Pack. He decides to leave the Pack, says his goodbyes and disappears into the webway with a mission to return the soulstone of the dead Eldar to the Eldar homeworld. He also seems to hear something or someone calling to him. In The Lion, El'Jonson hears a beast, like a Wolf, howling in the mist. What if the Wolf shadows that are leading Baldur thru the Webway are also guiding him to Russ and Baldur's redemption comes when he finds Russ and brings him back to Fenris? Just a random idea. If you haven't read the Jarnhammer Trilogy, go get the books.

Magnus is my favorite Primarch by far, and one of my favorite characters in all of Black Library, and I have to say: I really *don't* want him and Russ to have a rematch. Why, you ask? Because every single Primarch duel always ends the same way these days; a Loyalist victory. I don't know how anyone can still get excited for something with a result as predictable as the next 40k boxed set including Space Marines. Let's take a tally, shall we? Siege of Terra: Vulkan vs. Magnus (Loyalist victory), Dorn vs. Fulgrim (Loyalist victory), Jaghatai vs. Mortarion (Loyalist victory), Sanguinius vs. Angron (Loyalist victory). Score: 4-0 Imperium. 40k: Guilliman vs. Magnus (Loyalist victory), Guilliman vs. Mortarion (Loyalist victory via Deus ex Machina), Lion vs. Angron (Loyalist victory). Score: 3-0 Imperium. The writers are too scared to piss off the legion of Imperium fanboys so they write every fight the exact same way. And they make sure to throw in some snappy banter in which the Loyalist inevitably gets the upper hand, too, because the Traitors can't just lose; they have to lose and also be wrong. It's so irritating and I've lost all ability to get *at all* excited about the next one. GW tries to hype them up like WWE grudge matches, but when your side always loses - and doesn't even get to lose in a cool way - what's the point?

In reality I think Russ, will be one of the last if not the last loyalist Primarch's to be revealed after Constantine Valdor and Corax rescuing him from the Garden of Nurgle with said seed/Isha, ending with Russ at the head of a combined army of the Wolves, Custodes, Grey Knights and Silent Sisters attack Prospero and this time end the danger of Magnus once and for all, either by killing him outright or healing him with the use of the Emperor's Spear and the lost shards of Magnus' soul, thus leading to a redemption arc for Magnus.

Seems obvious to me that Guliman isn't worried about what Magnus is doing because Magnus can only ever cause harm unintentionally to his own side and never strike anything resembling a meaningful blow against those he considers enemies. That's why the Emperor demanded he cull the Thousand Sons as his condition for returning to the fold during the Siege of Terra, knowing Magnus would not accept that price. By keeping Magnus on Chaos' side, whatever schemes he comes up with will hurt Chaos instead of the Imperium.

Rematch are overrated. I like the flow of the primarchs coming back with handicaps. Roberte coming back to an empire that probably shouldn't survive. The lion coming back old. Corax being batman in the warp and refusing to leave and be useful, the wolf returning as something of a tired pacifist, Vulcan now being half ork from the waaaaaaagh explosion maybe even being recognized by them, Kahn with an aldar wife and kids, and dorn becoming an not stark raving mad follower of khorne. Magnus just can't become a central character again without Russ returning not too long after. In theory, Janus could return and there could be a big showdown between them but in reality GW would never burn that opportunity to bring back Russ just to give us Janus instead. Some of the other traitors have a similar problem. Imagine Lorgar or Perty coming back and not immediately being followed by Corax or Dorn respectively.

Methinks there is a little bit of hopeful bias in this video. Magnus is a bit of an odd situation. He is unique not just amongst the traitors, but the primarchs as a whole, in that he is almost goofily incompetent rather than outright evil. Other primarchs made errors, even dumb errors, but Magnus somehow makes them repeatedly. That’s why the matchup with Leman Russ doesn’t excite me as much. Lore wise, Russ would hand Magnus his ass. Magnus as a villain needs to be way less Angron and way more mastermind. Furthermore, the “omg Psykers” storyline doesn’t hit the same as it did in 30k. Psykers are a simple fact of life and survival for the Imperium, and they hate Magnus not because he is a psyker but because he wants to Chaos all over the place. Make Magnus’ story plot involve his previously stated goal of blending the Immaterium and real space rather than just bricking into Fenris/the Imperium Angron-style. The goal of the Imperium (or if you must, Leman Russ) then becomes stopping the blending rather than Magnus himself. Magnus should be an intellectual and strategic foe.

I think the next Primarch to return would be Sanguinious. Because what do Guillaman and Lion have in common? They were both part of the Impirium Seccondus. My point for Magnus would be to defeat and humiliate the attack dog of the Emperor, the Emperor's Executioner, shame him for being a pawn in the Hand of Horus and pushing Magnus and The Thousand Sons to Chaos too then let him go, his Chapter(s) too. Then turning back and helping with the Tyranids invasion of the Solar System and Terra. Because he is following the changers of ways, but with the tyranids there is no ways left to change.
