About the Mod
Is a new Standalone Map and Mod centering around ABDACOM in the defense of the Dutch East Indies in early 1942
Allied American, Britain, Dutch and Australian forces banded together to defend Java and the surroundings.
The Mod will incorporate a number of new ships and a brand new map and campaign of the Dutch East Indies - The ABDACOM Defensive.

The Japanese Empire expands throughout the Pacific where Allied forces attempt to halt its spread. A desperate struggle for control of the Solomon Islands is now underway.

Eerily reminiscent of the actual fate of HMAS Yarra (Warrego's sister-ship) - lost in approximately the same area, at approximately the same time in approximately the same way (Yarra didn't eat an air-launched torpedo first up but otherwise uncannily similar).

You turn _away_ from torpedo bombers. Putting your stern forces them to endure your AA longer and gives you more time to avoid fish in the water. Try it.

I can counter that turning in the stern carries the risk of a hit in the propellers and rudder, making the situation even worse. In my opinion, _Warrego_ would've made it to safety if the Japanese ships were not around.

Correct, turn away. Your the relative closing speed is then the difference, not the addition, of the speeds of torp and ship and thus you have more time to maneuver out of the way.

@@Planefan1000 Yes, but making the torpedoes stern chase gives you more time to ensure you are out of their path and makes the bombers sit in your AA range longer as OP said. Also means you dont have to turn much to dodge. What I like to do is sail away at a slight angle so that the bombers have to make a steep angle attack (relative to my ships) to get their torps to meet my heading. They essentially have to fly right beside me to drop, which means when they do drop, even just a slight turn in the other direction makes them all miss. The only time I can recall that this didnt work is when the torpedo bombers decided to literally kamikaze the stern of my carrier and drop its torpedo the last second before it smacked into her. She escaped, but it fucking hurt and kinda scared me a bit because of just how unexpected that was. I find torpedo bombers minimally dangerous in most situation. The challenge is when they catch you at close range and you have a larger formation, which makes maneuvering quickly difficult while avoiding collisions. Or decide to kamikaze drop right into your ass like above.

Historically at least the USN would often turn into them. It put pressure on the bomber crew to,act quickly and made it difficult for them to act in concert. A fleeing opponent allows for easier “hammer and anvil” set ups, even with the longer exposure to flack. Of course, in game it’s different, as the AI really doesn’t do two axis attacks.

It is.. The feints by the Japanese Destroyer forces are covering for something else. As that heavy surface battlegroup closer to Australia proves. The cutting of the supply chain and routes are what's been key to the Japanese forces taking Java for real. I do believe that Wolfpack will be needing his two heavy cruisers back in. Plus - a second submarine and some MTB or PT Boats -strengthening coast defence is a priority call. Also increasing air patrol in the area as well. Long range fighter escort. Both Buffaloes, Hurricanes, Kittyhawks and Hawk P36's were relatively short range aircraft with a range of 700 miles at best. Having learnt that fighters draw flak. Something like Bristol Beaufighter or DeHaviland Mosquito would be better. A Beaufighter would have a range of 850 to 900 miles. A DeHaviland Mosquito would be upwards of a thousand miles. Both these aircraft could duke it out with Zeroes and Ki 31's of Japanese forces. For instance. Two flights of Beaufighter with RF3 rockets on the wings could have sunk the Light cruiser of the Japanese force and perhaps damaged the Takau Heavy Cruiser - that sank that convoy escort destroyer. And allowed it to get away to Australia for repairs. Yes! Wolfpack is doing well. Better than in history. But the AI has access to the historical records. And what is being tried is to cut off the supply and reinforcement routes. That, in reality is what happened. But Wolfpack and one or two others are bucking the trend. One of these scenarios will succeed. Which one.. I don't have the foggiest idea. We will have to wait and see.

@@sealioso let's just wait and see. But I do know the fighter aircraft of WW2. And although the two aircraft I mentioned are available. Those two at that time were of limited number and the latter of these was being prototype testing. They had greater range and high tactical utility. He does note what we are saying. The bombing of one Takau class heavy cruiser and it sinking due to multiple fires and increased damage. He has conceded that formation aeriel bombing at 400 to 600 feet above the ground or water has merit. But fighters or fighter bombers to drag flak is a good idea too. Fighter range of doing so. Is a drawback. So heavy fighters are necessary for that! He's not doing badly - in truth ! He is doing things better than in the original conflict. So there's some very considerable amount of agreement with you on the point. But he needs to do slightly better.

You really need to work on your torpedo evasion. Don’t turn into them pre drop. Let them start their drop on your port or starboard side, and then crank hard into them and drop speed, they will fly right by your bow. Rinse and repeat.

attaking in formation is way worse (not hating just meantioning) as it stops them from dropping when they want however it can be useful if level bombing with a formation in "line ahead" if you go direct on with the target and have at least 2-4 bombs per plane

My third rate intuition says formation bombing shouldn't be very effective when precision bombing. Even if the lead plane is dead on, the rest of the bombs will just fall in formation. However if you're level bombing from high and the target is small and evading, then the shotgun approach may be better. And I'd imagine the best way to level bomb a straight moving convoy would be lengthwise? I haven't played the game myself so I don't know how well any of this would work. Sometimes the game just flips physics the finger.

I tend to prefer individual attacks. To me, the only formation that makes sense is line abreast. The entire formation releases when the leader does, so line abreast helps get more bombs on target.

It totally depends on the angle and munition number/type. For torpedoes, line abreast is awesome for making the spread nice and consistent. While you won't always get a ton of hits, a few torps out of many is a decent average. Echelon right/left with a good angle of attack can yield great results too even with bombs. Mostly I run the attacks myself and don't trust the AI. The probability for error is too silly at times. Lastly, line ahead and a long string of 500 lb bombs can work very well, especially for carriers and destroyers when executed properly.

@@jackfredricks6223 One thing I've taken to do lately (especially with the IJN's anemic divebombers) is to use Line Ahead on 150ft intervals at about a 45 deg approach angle to the target then giving an individual attack command. The spacing means the flight doesn't spread out (keeping up accuracy) and also tends to spread out AA. While it does mean the flight (4 AC) is exposed to AA longer, I typically average 50% hits with all bombs. For torp attacks, Echelon Left/Right (the trailing part of the formation is on the side of the target's bow) works extremely well. As stated, I've found that formation attacks aren't as effective as individual attacks, though it took a lot of experimentation with actual;l approach formations and spacing to figure it out.

I am advising you late in your experience, but in these engagements use destroyers to screen your cruisers, since they can move faster and move to the correct location between your cruisers and the enemy. Launch torpedoes from them as soon as you have a solution and all the while the cruisers use their longer ranged guns to assault the enemy. Dodging torpedoes, even later, when they finally arrive, busies the enemy, and the destroyers make getting firing solutions on the cruisers far more difficult for the enemy. Keep launching torpedoes with the destroyers during every engagement, strung out at random. I get lucky 25% of the time, since they dodge one from one ship, run into another ship's torpedo. These are actually the tactics used by the USN during various engagements before air power took over the war...

Whenever I sent bombers in, 11:33, I always sent them low and fast, making sure every bomber was going after the target. I’ve noticed that if you have them in formation, most of the bombs will miss, especially at altitude. Making them all target the ship tends to place all the bombs on the same bullseye, as it were.

Formation bombing is elite. I like doing line ahead with bombers who have single bombs on them... they usually line up really good from level bombing. OF course low level bombing is really strong especially if you do them from different locations

There were 6 ships.. Now there's 5 - One Takau class heavy cruiser was sunk by the Australian and Surabaya Hudson wings . Warringo also did some damage with it's one defiant hit! And I venture to the Gunnery Director tower of the Takau Heavy Cruiser in this battlegroup.

Those Destroyers are trying to draw your new medium hitting battlegroup to that end of Java and Batavia. And nearer to Australia - Three Destroyers were spotted. And probably recon for the Two Heavy Cruisers and the Light cruiser and two destroyers near your newest base. HMaS Warriggo found it. You need a second Sub and some MTB's to defend that base. And at least you have closer air support from Australia.

sometimes this game is just infuriating. started a campaign with this mod recently and so far i've gotten the following done: 1. hit a light cruiser with 2 500lb SAP bombs and 2 torps and seeing the AI refuse to scuttle the crit crit cruiser (2x). 2. i hit the kaga with 6 250lb bombs and the ship burned down and sank 3. i found out pt boats are fun as long as combat is not something they surface combat is not something they engage in. ferrying tiny amount of troops fast, sure. hunting subs, awesome except for the lack of hydro thought they do spot subs when they're at 15 kts and close to them. as soon as something with guns shows up they explode.

The last Stand of HMAS Warrego id say is historically accurate, seeing that as HMS Hood was sinking, one of the rear turret, if I'm not mistaken was firing until it went under the water line, but no one quote me on that.

Wrong ship the hood pretty much just ate a shell from Bismarck,had a fire, and her magazine's cooked off and essentially blew her in half, killing anyone below decks.

Perhaps a few more submarines in order to gain command points a little quicker?

I dont think the CW 21 fighters are a product of Curtis Wright. You might be mistaking them with the Curtis Hawk 75 ( P-36). The CW21 is a Dutch built fighter made by Fokker, the D21, only with retractable landing gear (experimental version).

Aircraft lose speed as they clime so he probably just wants to create distance as an alternative to altitude. Maybe it's safer I'm not sure how the game calculates these things. Hope this helps.

it's quite a hassle because you have to continually update where they're firing.

@@barnacle_bill2257 I've been doing it myself. What I meant with it, is you give a target to your ships, and than you control one yourself.

Can be a little op once you have range. Whenever an enemy ship is not moving its a good way to finish them off and move on to the next
