Latin Lover you have a lot of misconceptions about how claims work. What happens is the insurance adjuster comes out and writes an estimate based on visual damages. In this case, the visual damage is substantial. There is no way any ins co would have written a check for less than 2700. She took the check and tried to make profit by underpaying for repairs at maaco. Btw get as money estimates as you want. We only care about the estimate we write and any supplements shops send in. Also labor rates are regulated and approved by the state, so the idea that the ins co only wrote a 600 dollar estimate for maaco is laughable. Shes a ditz who tried to profit off a claim. Thats why the news reporter trashed the shop, not the ins co. Its also why the reporter and car owner did not complain to the fl dept of financial servies.

For the last 25 years I've known that if you go to Maaco, you have to do your own Bodywork, tape and prep. then cover it put it on a trailer and drive it there only for them to spray it. Not for body work, not for taping off, nothing but spraying. How is this even news anymore and why are people still surprised at this? After 36 years in paint and body business, I still will never understand how Maaco stays in business. I have never seen a job that came from any of their shops that would pass even the simplest inspection. I have repaired and repainted dozens of jobs that the Maaco shop in my area has worked on. And they're all the same. Runs and sags, poor texture, fisheyes, trash throughout the paint job. I repainted one car, that had huge dirt clods painted over on the bottom of the quarter panels and rear bumper. Overspray everywhere. They will paint over chrome, wheels, glass, moldings, etc. I worked on a truck in the late 90s that had to be totally stripped because the Maaco paint job never dried. 3 months after they sprayed it, it was still wet. The biggest mess that I had ever seen.

they pay their guys based on number of vehicle they do per shift. lets say you have a guy filling dents with bondo, he gets paid the same if that car has 3 little door dings, or if the car is covered in 20 dings, they pay their guys based on the vehicle, not what needs to be done. same with paint, the guy running the paint booth will get paid the same per car, if its just a bumper and a quarter panel, or if its a full body repaint, they get the paid the same amount per car. which is what you see, running paint, improperly fixed/replaced parts, over-spray (cause taping off things take time and COST money.).

MY buddy owns a collision repair shop, he repainted my old work truck bed (not a prefect job but it's an OLD work truck for the farm) and the material alone was over $600.00 (I had to pay for) with free labor on a Sunday! I agree with everyone else, she took a $3-4000.00 check and pocketed $24-3400.00 and is now pissed about it. She got what she paid for period!!! Maaco is only good enough to paint old riding mowers, bicycles or 1980's cars that are still half @ss running around on the roads loosing rust at every bump in the road. LoL
