My sister's husband proposed by taking a walk with her in the forest they walk in all the time (it was autumn, so extra pretty), getting down on one knee, offering a relatively inexpensive ring (they were both in school at the time so not much extra spending money) and asking her to marry him. Ten years is a very long time, yes, but there are plenty of good reasons to wait before proposing, including your financial situation, waiting for your kids to grow up (which is what some people do), etc. Now, my partner and I knew we WANTED to marry each other after about a year or two of dating, but we're still not officially engaged. So true! We're barely scraping the 3 month mark and he's already starting his research. Caught me by surprise at first but honestly it was very refreshing to see how a man treats you when marriage to you is _his_ dream as well. My ex would always talk about it and say I'm "his fiance" in front of friends/ family but I hated it because he never even asked me! Luckily we met when I was 24 and I left at 28 but those were still very precious as I do want a family. This one now isn't just talking about it, he's actually setting it in motion and looking forward to our future! OP girl is right, 90% of men who do marry knew they wanted to marry the woman in question long before proposing, usually in the 1st 6 months of dating. They build and nurture the relationship to be more ‘sure’ but they are sure. Conversely, I’ve rarely seen a gf/bf relationship longer than 4+ yrs amicably go into marriage. If he’s giving reasons or excuses as to why he ‘can’t’ propose, it’s usually because he ‘doesn’t’ want to. Specifically, 99% of the time when those men eventually do propose, it’s a shut up ring. That amount of time in a relationship is giving me the impression that he realized he ‘couldn’t do better’ and also peeped the fact that she was checking out. Which [13:49] addressed perfectly.
