One of the things that drives me WILD is the whole “it’s too expensive to eat healthy food.” I’ve never seen an example that isn’t comparing a MEAL with a SERVING. Frozen dinners are meals for one ie one serving. Dinners made from scratch are generally 4-6 servings. Of course it will be cheaper to buy one meal/serving than a whole dinner of multiple servings. It’s such an immature argument that I always shocked when I hear “adults” regurgitate it over and over again.

It's not that it's inherently more expensive, it's that low-income households have been physically separated from utilities like grocery stores etc. (All the small, family-owned grocery stores and such that you'd find in the ghetto's some 40/50 years ago have disappeared and been replaced (outcompeted) by giant supermarket chains located at the edges of suburbia). So now they need to get from their homes to these large supermarkets at the outer edges of suburbia which they need a car for (spoiler alert: they usually can't afford one), or if they do have a car they can use, they now need to buy gas to get there (very expensive!) and then they're there and they're buying ingredients which they need to turn into a meal (which means they need a bunch of ingredients for one dish $$$). It all adds up and you'll find that these people actually do need to pay more than people in suburbia to be able to get these groceries.
@Januaryjenkins25 күн бұрын
@@EsmeeAnnamarie they don’t want to hear this. The ppl saying this don’t actually work in these areas so therefore (to them anyway) it doesn’t exist and isn’t true. Edit: it’s not just “ghettos” or urban areas either. Rural areas don’t get as much attention in this (could be racism, idk but it’s harmful to those in these areas) and have it really bad too. Not only are they far from those type of grocery stores, they also are far from hospitals, clinics, lack public transportation and many other things. A lot of those ppl are most like receiving SNAP benefits too.

Every unhealthy place still has healthy options that taste good. Stuff I usually pick out cause again I struggle too much with the cooking to be fully independ with it. Not just that but we got regulations on how many callories it can be and it's not allowed to go over two third of what you need in a day. And again needs less unhealthy options on the side as well. Still get my salads from take out and my sandwiches with chicken and veggies too. Gain less weight from that than me cooking for myself and getting sick. The “fat and happy vs thin and miserable” comment gave me secondhand embarrassment because that was my exact attitude before I began my weight loss journey. The assumption that you have to be miserable to be fit is so crazy to me now that I’ve made so many healthy lifestyle changes. Like I *want* to move, I *want* to run and not get winded, I want to feel good in my body not because my sense of self worth is attached to my looks but because I can do and enjoy so much more when I’m fitter. I’m significantly happier now and it’s not necessarily “thinness”, it’s because moving SCIENTIFICALLY makes us feel better and so does eating better and sleeping better. I hope that girl can get out of that mindset because now that I’m out of body positivity, I truly understand the meaning of the phrase “misery loves company”. The people coddling me and keeping me fat did not have my best interest at heart. Sometimes the things that are hard to hear are the things that are best for us.

I feel like everyone that says healthy food is more expensive are calculating that on top of the unhealthy foods they're buying or they're just looking at convenient health foods. Salad kits can be pricey, as an example, and you could buy a bottle of low cal dressing and a few heads of lettuce for the same price as 1-2 kits.
@nightcoreeclub25 күн бұрын
yessss. pre-prepared grocery store foods can be many times more expensive than just buying and preparing the raw ingredients.
@KreeZafi25 күн бұрын
THIS is probably it tbh. If you literally just buy meat and vegetables and rice/pasta, it is definitely going to be cheaper (per meal) than any ready meal will be. Though you gotta be mindful of your choices and not go for the most expensive meats and vegetables.

@2doot25 күн бұрын
People are paying for the packaging and preparation. Admittedly, groceries HAVE gone up in price. It's ridiculous. However, buying a head of lettuce isn't going to be pricer than a pre-packaged kit, pre portioned, pre-sealed kit. Like not shit it's gonna be the pricier option if you're literally paying for the convenience of it.

I think people who are experiencing obesity have misperceptions about how much food they're eating and how much a serving actually is to be on healthy balanced diet. When I was 350 pounds, I had no idea how much food I was eating. I lost the first 150 pounds with diet alone. I didn't even have to exercise because I just had to stop eating about 3/4 of the food that I had been. So it's not an issue of trying to replace your current intake with super bougie healthy foods. It's an issue of dropping your calories down to 1800 a day instead of 1000s.
@tatimarie827724 күн бұрын

My issue is sweets, too, and I’m thin. But my grandpa was thin, too, and wound up with type 2 diabetes, so I’m really scared about it. To make matters worse, I am getting work done in my mouth (two root canals, crowns) and can’t eat anything but soup, smoothies, and ice cream cause of the pain. And not the good soup with chunks of veg, I love that, but creamed soup. So I’m just eating ice cream to try to keep weight on. Thankfully that will be over on Tuesday for the most part, I have one more filling after that. But once my mouth is free of pain, I’m going to try to cut out sweets and eat more healthy fats.

@TheBLGL I keep trying to tell my daughter who thinks she's ok because she looks like a model that she can develop diabetes. I think that losing this weight will be beneficial with showing her what I'm saying rather than just telling her though she doesn't even see me eating sweets as nearly as much as she does.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it over and over again, I refuse to call this *body* positivity. It’s just fat positivity at this point. When body positivity first came around, though it did include fat people, it mainly focused on uplifting those with physical differences. People with genetic conditions or disorders that causes them to look different, people who have deformities, people who have skin differences like vitiligo, people who were in accidents that left them disfigured, burns victims, and the list goes on. To me, that will forever be what body positivity is. This whole “TikTok Body Positivity!” Thing is just fat/plus size positivity. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, it’s just the way the community acts that’s wrong.

I loved your comment about "find the time" for exercise. It took me a very, *very* long time to really understand what worked for me. Being a night owl I thought I could only work out in evenings after my kid went to bed and when work was over. It sucked because then I had less time to hang out with my husband, I didn't sleep well (way too awake) and I couldn't do it long term. This past year I challeneged myself, a notorious anti-morning person, to get up early and get my exercise done before everything else. It started out with just doing stuff I liked--lighting weights--and I was so suprised at how much energy I had throughout the day. I now get up and walk 3 miles before 45m - 1hr of other exercies, 5 days a week. All before I drop my kid off at school and go to work. I thought I'd be exhausted but I feel so good and energized this way. And I sleep very well! One thing I love about fitness is its versatility. What works for one doesn't necessarily have to be the routine for all. Some people love to run (I hate it) but that isn't the only way to get your movement in. It really is more about finding some *time* to do some *thing* you love, which is true for hobbies too. It's a prioritization thing, which is why I try to resist rolling my eyes when people say they "don't have the time." Some truly don't but most of us do.

I want to say something about the „are athletic women more attractive than obese woman“, because I hoped that you would go more into it. I think this question and how it got heandled shows a lot about the dynamic between us women. Look how everybody tries to not offend someone, everyone really watches their words and they can mostly agree on the most controversial topics. But when a woman says I think athletic people are more attractive in general (she didn‘t say she is more attractive) she gets labled as arrogant and shamed by the girls. The aggression really comes out there. Let‘s be real. We all know that people have sexual preferences but most part of the population is attracted to fit people. This can also be a big booty latina, we‘re talking about healthy which doesn‘t automatically mean thin. Actually there has been research that shows that people adored slim waists on women houndreds years ago. People from different countries who didn‘t communicate with each other about it, there was no global beauty Standard back then liked the same attribute about women: the waist. Scientists extracted this from poems. Biologically we‘re wired to reproduce with another human being who looks healthy and has a slim waist and proportionally bigger ass/ breasts signalize fertility. That‘s why men generally prefer a small waist, even on black and Latina woman, who also have a proportionally small waist, when they‘re healthy. In my opinion it‘s absolutely legit to say that the opposite gender is generally attracted to healthy and fit bodes. I feel like we‘re walking on eggshells here. Probs for the young women‘s confidence and I hate how she got judged for that. Take a sample of 100 men and put them with the obese women and the fit women in a room, ask the men who they find the most attractive and you would see that the fit women are picked significantly more. Stop the cap. And for the people who say, what about personality, yes personality does play a role too but we‘re talking here about sexual attractiveness and often you have to look a certain way before someone even gives you the chance to show your personality. I‘m not saying that it‘s fair, but this is definitely the reality when it comes to first impressions.

I wouldn't try hard to associate sexyness with healthyness in any species because sexual selection can and does also select handicaps. There has never been a time when all humans could get as big as we are today, so there was no need to evolve male brains to prefer normal weight women. What male brains notice is the ratio of 'hip' to waist, which is very low in successfull (because good-looking) morbidly obese models. It is simply a secondary sex charasteristic to have wider hips and a certain fat distribution, so male brains are probably not interested in it because it represents a healthy person, but because it represents a female and sexually mature person. That's why women can report that their loved ones try to talk them out of loosing weight if they have a hourglass shape despite being overweight. The preference for the ratio has been stable in the different cultural periods but the preference for a specific weight class varied. I believe that today, the athletic look is a status symbol just like having extra weight was a status symbol in the time when only kings could eat the amount everyone can eat today. Todays "fit" women dont have enough fat to create the hip to waist ratio that men prefer, that's why many female fitness influencers get BBLs. We should all try to be normal weight and build muscle, but men are innately more interested in feminine appearance than physical fitness. 🤷♂
@kirausamaria540922 күн бұрын
Fattness isn't a feminine trait, it isn't normal. Men are fat too and we don't think they have 'feminine' traits.
@xxxmelissatacionxxx22 күн бұрын
Yeah I agree, obviously the majority of men prefer fit women. It's weird because part of the reason women (and men) work out is to look more desirable, but then women as a whole are worried about being truthful about how it's more attractive?? This is with the exception of body builder type women's bodies of course.
@wolf.eye._-21 күн бұрын
Absolutely
@wolf.eye._-21 күн бұрын
@kirausamaria5409 Yeah, but I've noticed that when men get fat, it does feminize them in a physical way. I've seen ones that looked like they had feminine hips and damn near full sized breasts because of their size, and it makes them feel soft. I've never been attracted to large men for that reason. I'm attracted to masculinity in males and femininity in females. This is not to say that I'd never date an overweight person, I have, because personality, humor and intelligence goes a long way for me, but as far as who catches my eye, yeah it's usually fit people. Especially with males because again the fat tends to feminize their bodies.

Former single parent here who learned that even out here in the sticks, Walmart delivers groceries. It takes minutes to cook hambugers made to everyone's liking without worrying that some fast food employee might have been a little lax in storing & preparing raw meat. Introduce your family to the kitchen's raison d'etre - it can be a learning experience about cultures, traditions & pitching in which will bode them well in the future; plus research has shown cooking is therapeutic. (Who knows, you may have a budding chef in your home.) Fast food/pizza delivery meals can be relegated to the "special treat" category which every parent can attess has it's own rewards. And really, there's nothing like the sweet smell of cooking onions to make a kitchen sing!

I’m watching this while doing my morning cardio! My sister once called me an elitist for saying that everyone is capable of eating healthy. I just stared blankly at her because I was confused. My husband and I shop at Walmart because it’s the most affordable and we don’t buy any organic or fancy health brands. Our weekly grocery bills are pretty low and we don’t go out to eat much so we’re saving a ton of money. I think a lot of people conflate things when it comes to food. There are a few qualities to consider with food: taste, convenience, nutrition, and cost. It’s hard to have food that meets all four qualities without some preplanning and informed decision making. Many people want every meal to be the most delicious thing ever and that’s difficult to achieve while saving costs and keeping the nutrition in mind if they’re not willing to put in the time to learn how to cook. Also, it’s so easy to cook and bulk and have food ready to put together. Like Michelle was saying, boil a bunch of pasta, have some frozen veggies ready, you can also pre-cook some chicken. Then, when it’s meal time, just grab a little bit of everything and throw some sauce or seasoning on it and you’re good to go!

My husband and I will literally live off of a big frozen bag of veggies. A big bag of frozen chicken breast and rice for literally a week And all of that probably cost us less than $10 at Walmart. what the, that's the price for 1 kg of chicken breast in my country, that's SO cheap! we just bought chicken, frozen veggies and a big bag of rice and that cost double that amount!

I love your videos, you always make me laugh! I started watching this Jubilee episode but turned it off because I got tired of listening to Jade. So thank you for summarizing it! You’re way more entertaining anyway.

I Work as an RD specifically with people who are food insecure and on Medicaid. Even with food deserts, limited cooking tools, busy lives, and taking into consideration the privilege of buying in bulk, I have yet to find a single person who doesn’t ultimately save money/have more food by learning how to shop for healthier foods. It’s really about education for the individual situation

yesss it's the return of Mimi! ♡ also those frozen meals are something I had to finally break away from (ADHD has made it too tempting this year). I kept finding I was STILL STARVING even after finishing one (you're right, there's so little food in there) and of course it's so preserved it practically skips your digestion too. the calories are always crazy for what you're actually getting out of it too. and then you feel too crappy to cook later. absolutely banned them from my house recently and I am starting to feel well enough TO COOK AGAIN. also cutting out so much sugar has seemingly revived my interest in normal water?? and the woman who just didn't like the word "obese" reminded me of how some people will flip out if you use the word "ignorant" with them, thinking you are calling them stupid when really you are saying they just lack knowledge in a certain area. these days you literally can't use some words bc people believe they're just an insult and have never bothered to care what the word actually means.

That panel was hilarious. Structured so that it is impossible for anyone to state the truth as no one is allowed to question that claims of another. People in denial associate with others who do the same because it allows them to feel secure in the idea it is not their fault and there is nothing they can do.

One of the easiest ways to make healthy, inexpensive meals that will last for the week is an old fashioned CROCK POT! I've lost 55 pounds thanks to walking, cutting out burgers and fries, and Zepbound. The crazy thing is that I've saved money from not eating fast food three or four times a week. I dont know what the heck Jade is talking about.

12:31 the chipped beef doesn’t come with bread, it’s just the beef and gravy. The bread is a suggested way of serving it. I make chipped beef and gravy every year for Christmas morning (homemade) it is way more worth it to just make it at home. It’s literally milk, dried beef, flour and spices.

I've been counting calories for almost three months and i can see how it could easily become disordered eating but that is a mental issue. Being mindful of what you consume is important in my opinion and counting calories can really help reset your perception of what you should reach for when hungry. I've lost almost 30 pounds and i try not to kick myself too hard if i slip, just remember that tomorrow is a new day and a new chance to choose better for myself.

The one saying "I'm big but I can still hike" that was so me. That mentality got me 349lbs. I used to say I don't have diabetes, my blood pressure is normal, I don't run out of breath, these all kept me from actually working out and living a healthy life. Down 120lbs :) never going back

I had PCOS since I started my period. There was a time where I only had my period once a year.. I'm still having trouble losing weight. I'm 5"3, and 80kgs.. Any tips, pls?

@@KaJeTheRiPPer what worked for me was #1 working with my doc to find the right birth control/hormones. Once I got that under control it was calorie counting(I can't go over 1500 or I will gain) and working out daily. Food, I stick to homemade meals and stay away from anything processed. I do cardio basically every day, run a 5k once or twice a week, and go to the gym at least twice (usually 3 times) a week. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it! I was at 306lbs and I'm down to 160lbs 😁 It does get harder the more you lose, my first 100 was way easier than the last 20. But, start slow and make gradual changes, you'll get there! Best of luck to you on your journey!

@@The_Brealist oooohhh, shit.. Okay, I do take pills but I only do it when I haven't had period in 3 months.. I don't take them monthly coz I'm just hoping that they will come naturally.. Also, I gotta admit, I am a bit lazy and and unmotivated (when I'm depressed which is 90% of the time), so I don't go out of my apartment. I am currently unemployed so mobility and sleep schedule is almost non existent. I have been eating less carbs. So I do have to exercise, huh? 😭😭😭

@@KaJeTheRiPPer starting where I was, I did not wanna leave my house, put on clothes... Shower. So I get ya there. I love my stationary bike. It was cheap (Amazon sale) and I can do it in front of the TV, but depending on budget, you could even start off by just doing "beginner" workouts, yoga, stretching videos on KZbin(I love free!). You'd be amazed what a 15 minute full body stretch when you wake up can do for your mood! When I was at my worst, I took EVERY WIN. Even if it was just completing one task a day. I def didn't just wake up one day and start running 😋 little positive changes every day add up! Start small, and just keep collecting those wins day after day - you deserve to have effort put into you being the best you!! It's never going to be perfect, progress over perfection 😁
