@@Agrillot6 I don't think you are as good a communicator as you think you are. Literally all communication is interpretation, if your words have multiple ways to be interpretated, then someone asking a clarification question (like "Is this what you mean..." or "my interpretation of what you said is this..." is actually a sign of good communication and actively wanting to understand you. Your meaning might be obvious to you, but try and imagine how your audience might have trouble understanding you and be patient in helping them get the picture. Even if something seems simple to you, it might be like Greek to someone else.

@@allsystemsgootechaf9885 Eh. Sounds like toxicity coming from both parties. Her emotions might seem "'dumb" to you, but that doesn't mean you have license to casually dismiss them without consequence. All your relationships are doomed if you don't treat it like an equal partnership. Communication is a two-way street. If your partner isn't doing a great job of communicating, then you should probably be working that out between yourselves instead of "resuming your evening unbothered."

No woman wants to criticize a man. Ever. That's like saying men only want women to communicate directly because they're too lazy to do the work of deciphering. Women don't desire to be critical, they desire to be proud of their man. Women love seeing men put in effort for them. It's attractive. Why is that so difficult to fathom for these butthurt internet manchildren.

@@bxxtrr Thanks for the chuckle. I'm now so ashamed haha. Seriously though, an example because you seem to have missed my point... If a guy friend of mine came up to me and said "my car won't start", that would NOT be an invitation for me to commiserate with him and talk about his feelings for his missed appointment. It'd be time to bring him my ODBC reader and check for spark, fuel, etc. Pizza and beer might be involved. Men are more inclined to fix problems than bitch, or at least bitch while working on it. Thus it may be more reasonable to expect a logical analysis / plan of attack when presenting a guy with a problem rather than a good talk. As a clearly brave and empowered wahman you might only associate with feminized soyboys so YMMV of course.

#TheErin it can be really hard, especially if this is something your parents did to each other. Having daily 5-15min check-ins with each other just to communicate your thoughts and feelings helps a lot. Also, remind yourself throughout the day and when you start getting frustrated with your partner that they are just trying to understand you. If you don’t want to come out at say exactly what’s bothering you, ask them for something that would help you instead. I usually tell my finance the emotions I’m feeling, and ask for a hug or something similar that will make me feel better and might even help me loosen up to say what I want said. Another good way is to use a strategy when discussing big things, decisions, and big feelings that involves taking turns. It can be really hard, but it pays off the more you practice.

As a woman, I've never understood the hype about the concept that "when a woman tells a man about a problem, he wants to fix it but she just wants a listener." First of all, I'd be happy my guy wants to fix it. Maybe he does have a solution. (In the vid, she said, "I don't know what to do.") Second, how hard is it to say, "That's ok, just hold me." Or, "I just need to vent." Sometimes the only way a person will know whether to fix it or to listen is if you actually tell them. That's a human thing, not a male-female thing
