I wish her all the luck with her new face, donors are amazing. "She saved five lives and then the facial donation to Carmen" So she saved 6 lives. Dont underestimate the incredible gift that Carmen got from your sister. She also got her life saved by this donation. Even if the donation only lasts 7 years like the last time, its still SEVEN years of normality that she got to have
@jessicawright6053 жыл бұрын
I see how the family meant it- the 5 lives were likely organs and the other was Carmen whose body was beginning to reject the face transplant she had. I see what you mean but I just think the family meant it that way. The interesting thing is with the drug history I didn’t realize the body would be able to provide organ donation- due to the drugs in the system especially the liver.

Wow its amazing what our doctors can do these days. How strong is this lady though going through it not just once but twice. My heart goes out to the family who donated their loved ones organs and face... It must have been hard for them. Once they did their research and make the choice to donate I bet they now know yes it was the right decision. I hope they all get to meet up soon and remember the lady who's death also gave hope and life to so many after her passing.

I have yet to see a face looks normal. Just because they can do these transplants doesn't mean they should.
@sveapearson6933 жыл бұрын
I mean I think it's more than looks. A face transplant is transplanting skin literally made for the face. In cases where her own skin is so badly damaged... New skin is important. The skin protects the inside of the body from bacteria, exposure, as well as numerous things. It's not just looks, it has function.
@kevinsmith48623 ай бұрын
It is an abnormal situation. The same can be said of older Hollywood stars and all the injections and surgeries they have that leave them looking like freaks. It is of their own chosing to look like that. This woman was brutalized, and this gives her back some of her identity and needed function.

@@Amanda-hl7xk these have been around for a long time though, they are not getting any better and honestly I don't think they will because I don't think that is for them to do. My sister got burned as a baby and had to have skin grafted, her own skin and it looks amazing, as if she was never burned at all. Her burn was a 3rd degree burn. Grafting is different. It just looks crazy to me and to do it a second time after a rejection. How many more people's faces are they going to rip off for one person for them to practice and turn out this way??
@capes54413 жыл бұрын
It's less about aesthetic. She won't regain full function, but she has eyelids now. She has a mouth. Also, the first full face transplant was in 2010. That is definitely not a long time for a surgery this uncommon and extensive.
