I disagree on Hobie (i.e. british punk spider-man) I do acknowledge that most every time big 4 quadrant corp productions try to make an edgy character they blow it. But Hobie worked for me. It wasnt just words, he actually was anti-establishment. He was miles first supporter. Helped him escape spider society. Gave gwen his universe hopper bracelet thing. And i think he was on gwens revolution force at the end. His actions in the movie backed up and reinforced the characterization.

Problem is, if he is anti-establishment and also a nihilist, A: Why would he agree to join the "Spider Society" in the first place and B: Why would Miguel recruit such an uncooperative person for such a high stakes mission. I thought the character was sort of fun, but didn't make much sense at all.

Given that he seemingly has recruited hundreds or thousands of different Spidermen in a sort time, including all the ones other than Miles who were involved in the first movie, I think the bar to entry isn't very high. @@padenbang7375 It seems like most Spider-People don't find out about Miguel's strict rules on Canon Events until after they've experienced one - Pavitr was a member but didn't know Inspector Singh was marked for death despite being a member - so it was probably presented to Hobie as a ragtag group of likeminded people fighting the good fight. By the time he realized what it was really about, he'd already met Gwen, and he stuck around to look out for her, even though he didn't agree with the ethos. As for why Miguel would recruit him... there doesn't seem to be any bar for entry other than Miguel already disliking you. Miles and MCU Peter are on his shitlist for messing with the multiverse, but beyond that he's brought in everyone, even 1967 Spider-Man (who's mobility is severely limited by his animation style) and the Spider-Popsicle (who's... a popsicle). I think that having to work through the fact that people with good intentions can make bad choices is a way more interesting story beat to work through. Hot Take : I think the ending was fantastic. I’m hooked. Cliffhangers are only annoying when you don’t know if you’ll ever get off them (like reading A Dance With Dragons in 2011 & getting no resolution over a decade later). Spider-Verse 3 will be out next year. Honestly, given how massive the problem Miles is facing, it would have been a tall order for him to defeat Miquel and Spot for a neat wrap up at the point where the threat to his dad was fully established. Much like with Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi … the ending of this film won’t be a problem when all 3 films are out. People will just pop in the third movie right away, because that ending cliffhanger is just that good. I do have the nitpick that I didn’t like the allusions to the MCU, because Spider-Verse has long established that it’s universe has different rules (like the whole glitching thing). It doesn’t quite hold that this is the same Multiverse seen in Loki/Avengers Endgame/Multiverse of Madness

It’s crazy the little details you notice the second time watching before it tells you the twist at the end of him being in the wrong dimension like Rio asks Miles if him being Spider-Man was a part of comic con when comic con doesn’t exist in his universe and her reaction when he says “I wish dad was here to explain it” because he’s dead there and she’s still hurting. Little things show the love of the craft

I love how this movie has a bunch of layers to it. Like you could watch the movie and enjoy it, but on second watching you will notice further references, editorial notes in the corner, and a bunch more details like that. Also there are a couple points that seem like plot holes at face value, but actually give you hints about what's going to happen in the next movie and the real rules of the spiderverse (probably). I think that it should've been made more obvious how wrong Miguel was in this movie, because it might seem abrupt if they just drop that he's wrong for some reason(but they could do it well, by establishing that he had confirmation bias once he believed canon events were what ended universes)
@realNom2mooncow Жыл бұрын
Oh and also a final note is that I agree with what Nadia said early on that this multiverse actually has a message instead of just being a cool plot device that lets you see alternate versions of characters. (the message is that trauma shouldn't be enforced and an answer to the question: "does trauma make you a better person?" No.)

as well kinda nice to have a movie with emotional moments and every single scene being better than the humor instead of the other way around where the humor is good but the story is not (also I really liked the humor of this movie, only 2-4 jokes didn't land for me)

also also also also fucking also I really enjoyed the sudden cliffhanger, I did not know that it was a part one and my theater (even 2 weeks after release) had everybody shockedly whispering to each other about everything that happened. It was fun to be seated there in the theater theorizing quickly and thinking about the future after such a great movie, especially because of how much of a cliffhanger it ends on (the music is soooo good (called "start a band)). But it definitely could be a turn off if you were expecting something different.

[no spoilers] i feel like im the only person who thinks into the spider-verse (2018) is a masterpiece that this sequel, due to a bunch of decisions on the premise, had no hope of equaling. the screenplay is sprawling, lacking the focus on character arcs and themes. additionally, as a miles comics fan, it frustrates me to no end that, to the public, he's now a multiverse character who isn't allowed to stay in his brooklyn. and it feels really shitty that miles is only allowed to exist in side spider-man movies where literal animals are also spider-man [mild spoilers] every time a live action element is on screen, the movie loses the singularity that saved it from the sony shitshow of, say, venom. and why the hell do they take time in the middle of a fight scene to reference no way home? extreme franchise nonsense, and part of this movie refusing to stand alone; even as it's own story, the movie fails to complete itself, or even have miles learn anything all that being said, it's a visual upgrade of the first (when the only elements on screen are animated, which is not 100% of the long film). everyone's already talking about the impressionistic runny watercolors, but i don't see enough people talking about how hard it must have been to get spider-punk's style right without being unreadable. it's still very much worth seeing and ill certainly see it again, i just obviously have a lot of thoughts and feelings about my expectations for a sequel to into the spider-verse (2018)
