I'm Jamaican, and here we bathe every day. We are very aware of our body odour, when we haven't bathed. At times, even twice a day, because here the sun is hot. We often need to cool the body, and washing the flower, is part of the package.

Thank you, Vivienne, for such straight forward information. You mentioned the flower as being a self-cleaning organ and it is. However, the surrounding petals consist of folds and tiny crevices; these areas hold bacteria that can cause odor and infection. All you have to do is smell the crotch of your underpants after wearing it all day to understand that a moist area will grow bacteria and therefore, odor. I have always worn cotton underpants because they are breathable and far more comfortable than scratchy lace. Thong underpants are simply not comfortable. It is nothing more than material floss and does not allow air to circulate. I learned a lot more about my flower after my first child was born. The nurses in my postpartum care explained a lot about flower hygiene. After hearing of cases of toxic shock syndrome caused by tampons, I stopped using them. This may sound odd but becoming better acquainted with my cycle made me more aware of how perfectly formed and beautiful the female body is and how connected to the universe we are. It is a privilege to be a woman.

Hi, I happened upon your channel when wanting to see if there were any new etiquettes that I should become familiar with. I grew up in the American Midwest in the 60's & 70's. My Mom was hard on me concerning manners, proper behavior, and etiquette (my dad retired from the USMC - so my brother and I had to conduct ourselves like a little gentleman and a little lady). I'm a medical student and from what I've studied i can say Vagina is self cleaning so it should not be washed. When it comes to vulva...it should be washedwith plain water and that's it bcz as many products mention that they're not harmful...they still disturb the pH balance down there which is necessary to protect it from infections (fungal/uti) Plain water is great but if one still chooses products then the pH has to be maintained.

If you have hair down there, you need to wash it simply because the hairs will retain bacteria, urine, blood and discharge - and then there will be odor.

Oh what a pleasure it is to watch you present. So glad I came across your youtube channel. Thank you for your work, Vivienne. I hope these additional non-straightforward tips will help the girls and ladies: - If you bike or if your long trip makes you sit for hours (on a plane, a train, car etc.) - please use the special feminine wet wipes that get rid of bacteria and restore the pH balance. Always wipe from front to the back. Bring a change of underwear with you and use it. Sometimes yeast infection develops simply because of the way we ladies are "designed": when we sit down for extended periods of time, the "flower" gets squished naturally and this is when bacteria may travel easily from the back to the front. That's the same reason why thongs are a no-no. They are a toy; - shower and especially clean your "flower" right after any activity that made you sweat - don't go out and about after a gym until you have showered. This will help prevent yeast infection and is simply respectful to yourself and the others; - mouths contain more bacteria than areas down below, in normal circumstances. Don't let bacteria travel from your mouth to your partner and then into your "flower", get it? :) or 10 days of antibiotics and repeat - your choice :) - if your muscles are strong enough, please avoid sitting on any toilet seat outside your home. Hover over it. You can't trust a surface in a public washroom or at somebody's home; - cotton, silk, viscose are the best materials for your underwear and active wear. Studies show bacteria multiply much faster in polyester and nylon, and the odor is less likely to disappear after a wash cycle. These natural materials let your skin breathe too; - the hair.. oh the hair. Of course it is your choice but.. hair holds odor and it's just tedious to constantly watch it, isn't it? - daily liners - if you find you can't do without them and there is no physical damage to your "flower" (I hope not!), it is most likely time to see a gynecologist. The normal flora down there is when you experience no discomfort whatsoever; - always use only your personal, clean towel. Never drop your towel on benches etc. If it fell and was on the floor for more than 20 sec - wash it; - don't sit on random surfaces in a swimsuit or if your skirt or dress are so short your skin or underwear will touch that surface. This is what gynecologists recommend too.

Ladies please don’t use Vagisil or summers eve or any feminine hygiene products. The best products to keep your flower clean is 100% pure Castile soap. Also you can keep a spray bottle in your shower with 50% water 50% apple cider vinegar and you spray your armpits and flour then a wash with the castle soap. It doesn’t burn as long as you don’t rub it into your flower too much. If you do rub it into your flower too much you might feel slight discomfort for 30 minutes after your shower.

For me, I wash my navel then I use some oil (olive oil is pretty good for the area) or petroleum jelly to massage the area. It gets gunky and tickly lol. Then I use some methylated spirit or peroxide to clean it out. Always gets the job done!
