When interviewing for a job, men and women might behave the same but get treated differently.

Maybe it was the actor? If they seriously just used two videos, then they don't know how to conduct a scientific study. They need more than two actors. Furthermore, at the beginning, around 0:14, they say that twice as many women feel that they were turned down at a job because of their gender. Maybe they feel that way because of videos like this?

I've felt that way before seeing this video or any like it. I've been told because I am really good at my position, they see me best suited to that position where *someone* else would be considered for promotion. No one but a savant is only good at one thing. Someone who quickly picks up a method can probably quickly pick up many methods. It boiled down to "I'm comfortable telling you want to do rather than collaborating more as equals". But please, continue to find excuses to not consider real experiences by real people.

It's not just what you say but HOW you say it, the female actor was alot harsher and abrupt in how she spoke, the male calmer and more controlled, the "study" was obviously conducted in such a way as to bias the outcome in favour the male actor and although it makes a valid point is not a valid test.

1:20 Maybe it's the fact that the women sounds condescending, and the man doesn't, maybe it's not because of gender but it's the fact theyre two different people who sound different, and there is much different bias then you think, women are more likely to gain a stem, law, or consecutive job just because they're empowering, and it's simply "sexist" for them to not get the job at all!

ARE U F***ING kidding me, "the candidates are identical" That is complete BS, if they haven´t prior to the study evaluated the actors with regard to all parameters that we know affects bias in others they can not make that claim. Also the effect of the job they are applying for also has bearing on how the candidates are precieved. The study would need to be replicated dozens of times using different actor (evaluated beforehand of course) and a wide range of jobs in order to draw conclusions of the sort they are implying here. Also the people judging the candidates should not be in the same room as they can also have an effect on eachother (social power). Also I think it´s hilarious that "so few women" are ceos of fortune 500 companies and that more women should be in these positions. Why? given that the sexes are more alike then different but at the extremes it becomes less so, would´t a reasonable arguement be that it doesen´t matter if the ceo is a man or woman because in order to get to that position there they would have to have alot of the same personality traits, so what difference would the gender really make? Are female leaders better then men? objectively I would argue no. Are there differences in leading style between men and women, I would say no however I precieve a difference between managers and leaders gender notwithstanding. Becoming a ceo, manager, leader in a workplace setting has a lot to do with your social networks and very little to do with your skills.

Women and men are exactly the same. There is nothing different physically or psychologically between the two. Therefore we should judge them equally. Any differences you might perceive are only social constructs created to hurt and enslave.....or maybe that sounds ridiculous.

Lol at the comments trying to justify sexism. If anything, the man sounded more agressive and conceited (especially with all those hand motions), while the female sounded much calmer, just a bit deadpan. How come everytime sexism against women is called out men get all defensive as if we are accusing them? We're accusing society, because as this experiment shows its not just men who have this biased mindset. Sexism against women is alive and real, so stop trying to deny it or claim that men have it worse.

No,that's not what I saw. Your resume simply gets you in the door, after that it's about the connection you make. The female applicant was seen as "Arrogant" because her eye contact was not consistent, when she looked up to think, she tended to roll her eyes; her head is tilted back slightly so she seems to be looking down her nose at us; her slight shrug comes at a time when she seems to be putting off the idea the question asked, and she never smiled. The male applicant looked more constantly at the interviewer, face on the level, pleasant expression, and his shoulder shrug was timed to be slightly humble, take the edge off tooting his own horn. From these brief pieces, I'd rather work with the man day-in and day-out than the woman. When the words/resume are equal then it comes back to the connection you make in person. He was doing what Diane does - make us like him. The reason we invite Diane into our homes every night is not because of her resume, it's because we feel she enjoys being there (on TV and with us) and asks the questions we want to know - we feel connected. These are skills that can be learned (I teach them) but the first step is being aware, not assuming that it was purely gender bias.

You prove the studies that say women are harsher on women. I would add that women with less hard skills than their female interviewees will be threatened by her and dissect her every word and action in a way they would not for men. As HR reps tend to have less hard skills and simply support male led organizations as gatekeepers.

Why do women not start with building their own companies like the majority of these large companies were by men? If women and men are equal capable, why is it always women going after jobs all ready created at the hands of men? In my company, women have top priority when applying for jobs right now. All the push to equal the work force. Problem is every job posting see's far more men applicants than women. Where is the example being made for the support of women being equal and just wanting to be equal in all sectors?

Of the short glimpses we saw of the interviews, did anyone else detect a less than professional tone in the female's voice? Both candidates may have been saying the same thing, but I got a hostile and condescending vibe from the female through her tone and nonverbal communication. Her body language and eye movements were less professional. The word choice did seem like bragging and arrogance from both male and female, but she made it seem like she was put out to be answering questions with her eye rolls and movements - like the whole interview process was beneath her. Did anyone else sense this?

Wrong, they do it because of need. The countries you mention minus Europe that has the same issues as us and have spoken about this and actually acted on it (see Nordic countries) have women that take engineering degrees because that’s the only way out of their societies. Further in India most of the female engineers are in the higher caste. Sorry but look at the facts

@@ireneswackyjournals8810 Just by your argument I can tell you’re another dense American woman who probably works in PR and can’t have a conversation of depth on the topic aside from “Wah wah, you’re wrong.” I’m not. I know what I’m talking about and it’s the same reason European countries have had numerous women leaders of parliament (our equivalent of president) time and time over. American women don’t even talk about anything other than gossip sex and beauty products. You stop a Ukrainian or German, or Indian (even certain African countries) woman, and ask them about politics or any topic and they will give you a strong answer without fear of being too forward. Work life is better for women overseas as is career advancement. American society likes to pretend we’re still in 1650 and remain angered at strong opinionated women. This is why we are loosing. Even our news websites. Yahoo news is all watered down. No international news, nothing thought provoking, just placement adverts and celebrities. Onlyfans ads, mindless regurgitated new stories. Look at even the Canadian version of Yahoo news or French Yahoo. It is comprehensive and not just about celebrities and porn site placement ads. MSN is only a few percentage points better. America is in decay and everything here is intended to keep our minds at a very basic level. We need women leaders who get it. Ones who know how to speak up and self promote on interviews to start.

Just look at the word bitch or bitchy. It originally means female dog so it's a word specificly used to insult a woman perceived in a negative way, being argumentative, impure etc whereas a guy behaving the same would get more respect and be deemed threatening. That's some deep-rooted sexism on both sides actually. Dont forget about benevolent sexism.

What?!?! There's a difference between men and women? No way! Women, for the most part, are just better at caregiving jobs with infants and the elderly becuase that's how they're DNA is coded. Every time I go to the grocery store and see an elderly person with a younger helper, the helper is always a female (and God bless her). All of the nurses I know are female (filipinos don't count). I think women make great doctors. For the most part, if women can't fight the urge to run with the big corporate dogs, then they forfeit being ladies - no more pulling out chairs or holding doors or chauffeuring to the movies. From then on we go dutch for dinner; you shut up about your coworkers, relatives, soap operas, and other boring crap; and you pull your own weight in the sack. Ladies, did you ever wonder why chivalry is dead?... or do you only enjoy complaining about it?

Ashley ASHLEYM but also the women's tone at the beginning was a lot more arrogant than the man's because of the pitch of voice she choice to use, if she used a lower pitch she wouldn't have sounded so arrogant, but then again I probably didn't like either because confidence to me comes across as arrogance which means asshole.
