Wow, to come across this today. Dr. Dalal is an amazing woman & surgeon. Feb 6, 2024 marks 10 years since she performed surgery on me for Pancreatic Cancer. I was given 4 months to live and Dr. Dalal on my very first visit, only 3 days after being diagnosed, told me Mrs. xxx you will live a very long life. Well she was right. I beat the odds with the grace of God and my Lord Jesus Christ and the skilled and compassionate hands of Dr. Kimberly Dalal. She is truly an incredibly passionate and caring person and you know that from the moment you meet her. I keep in touch on milestones like this and am so blessed to say I know this talented woman and surgeon. Thank you for my life, Dr. Dalal.

I find a lot of women who go into surgery end up being fairly unhappy later in life. The career choice is not very compatible with family life. As soon as women should be starting their career after 14 years of education it’s due time to start having kids. I have met a lot of single/divorced female surgeons . It’s not an easy choice. In the end you can not be a great surgeon and be a great mother. You can do one or the other. You try to do both and both family and career will suffer. There are more women than men in medical school. The playing field is wide open. Women in surgery is pretty much the norm today. I’m not sure this warrented a TED talk.

Thank You. I got proposed a free scholarship in surgery residency, but as I wish to be a good wife and mother I always though that becoming a surgeon will be a bad idea. You always see people near to death,blood..... It's not where I'm willing to end my career. I wish to be a paediatrician

I’m guessing you don’t live in the USA. Not all surgery is bloody and not all surgery has to do with old sick people. At least in the US residents are always payed during residency which lasts 5-7 years after medical school. That means most people are in their 30’s when they are just starting their career. It’s not good for family life. In reality family life and intense careers don’t go hand in hand. It’s better to pick one or the other.

We had her as a surgeon a month ago. She removed a 3 1/2 pound sarcoma on psoas muscle of a 76-year-old. She seems confident she got it all.
