Happy to see that most people criticise the ifsc for hosting and event in a place that was built by a state that abused human rights and killed natives that lived there before just to build a shitty city.

A clear downvote and non-watch from me. A fatal step into the wrong direction for sports climbing. We do not need to make climbing another commercial sport without ethics and a mafia-like organization at the top. There are too many sports like this already. It also totally contradicts the community standards like preservation of nature, cooperation in sending climbs, and respect for one another, regardless of divisive lines like nationality, gender, or (dis-)abilities.

@@GTCrais I am not generally opposed to holding climbing events in countries with questionable governments, if the event itself is organized properly in a proper location. In this case, the location is the red flag for me. This is the Wikipedia summary on the issue, I don't think I can put it better myself: "Neom's construction has also been criticised for environmental and human rights violations, with expatriate employees describing abusive working conditions and members of the local Howeitat tribe protesting against their forced expulsion.[13][14] Around 20,000 people are expected to be forcibly relocated.[15] Members of the Howeitat tribe have been killed resisting evictions, including Abdul Rahim al-Huwaiti who was killed by Saudi security forces under disputed circumstances.[16] Three other members of the tribe were also sentenced to death for resisting evictions.[17]" (Wikipedia, "Neom")

I liked to see some other climbers than normal, makes it more tense. It took me a bit to understand the new format, I don't really know what to think of it yet. Might be cool, might be bad. The place looked super empty, that was weird. Most IFSC cups are looking crowded. Since all the comments are about NEOM and I do not know where or what it is I'll look into that.

That was pretty cool, the level of difficulty and fun seems to have made a massive jump. Has the IFSC just found a way to make a total of 5 walls in the comp?

Oh wow, Neom is actually a place now. From what I've seen on youtube, they should worry more about finishing their construction projects instead of holding sporting events. Nah, the cities vision is very futuristic so it will be fitting to try out this new 2 Min per problem format I heard about. Apparently they can cycle back if they don't make it up. Should be a good show. 😊

@tipsudachaomuangkhong8342 Here, only the 4th problem will benefit from rest. Again, splitting into 2 slots makes an overall time less than 4 min. The last seconds in the first slot will be a waste most of the time.

This was the saddest IFSC event I've ever seen. The skill level of the climbers was so weak and broad that the setters could not set anything without looking incompetent. Where were the stars? I didn't really expect to see Brook or Natalia but... oh forget it. Audience? A few cold speed buddies looking for some entertainment in a barren desert. Matt. You did your best to pump up this flat tire, but you lost credibility by not at least alluding to this Potemkin Village of a sporting event.
@mdegtiarev11 күн бұрын
I suspect audience are 100% members of the competitor teams. Potemkin? Wikipedia says it's something Russian, but there is no Russians among the competitors.
