Marathon is such a tough race they should have consolation prizes for at least the first 10 finishers (like after gold silver & bronze they should have, copper, aluminum, lead, obsidian, stone, graphite, limestone, clay or whatever else they could come up with!

Endurance sports are ridden with doping because it makes such a huge difference in training (faster recovery) and technique doesn't make as big of a difference (compared to more technical disciplines). There's been plenty of research on doping in Kenya - how they are hardly tested, able to get out of tests without consequences and so on...

No, there are no heats. There is a qualifying standard, which is around 2:43-2:40, but from one country only 3 runner can qualify.

You're awfully critical of someone who has so much marathon experience and actually made it to the Olympics twice in her career, and finish in the top 10 in this one with a field of very experienced runners who can all outrun everyone watching them on KZbin by hours. Des Linden had a gameplan, and she tried to execute it. It worked out well because she finished 7th out of over 150 runners. If you think you can do better, you get up and do it.

Ethiopians and Kenyans are my fav runners by far too bad about the EPO..i'm wondering if there is a conspiracy to get them addicted and eventually out from the podium.. that plastic grass at the end of the race and the space for the runners to take a moment should be mandatory on all marathons.

sure but usually doping is ahead of testing always plus in countries with less infrastructure testing has been a problem in recent years. Most don't get caught.

Well, you really don't know Rio. That's no way they could pass by a favela, or even the mountains just for a simple lack of space, there are no large streets there. Well, it's a city close to the sea, of course that places close to the water are kind of flat.
