The attitude also needs to change regarding who can and should and must take care of aging, ailing parents: sons? daughters? both? Why do daughters have to sit back and sulk for not being able to be available for her parents as much as she wants to?

Right! It is the default setting of Indian marriage system that the sons take care of their parents and live with them while the daughter has to live with her husband's family and take their responsibility. @seevic98213 жыл бұрын
It all boils down to this: Educate your daughters just like you educate your sons. The emphasis at all times should be on education of your child, regardless of gender. Once the girl flourishes with her capabilities, she will not only have the confidence to say *no* to a dowry-demanding family, but also the financial independence to take care of herself. Marriage will happen when she's ready and the right boy comes along. Parents shouldn't feel the burden, but rather pride on the daughter's achievements. Smart parents divide their assets *equally* among *deserving* children. Any child who shows signs of selfishness or whose spouse is a troublemaker should be kept away from the family inheritance. Until such a balance is reached, someone or the other will be unhappy in the family. Bottom line: A girl should move heaven and earth to educate herself, and stand on her own feet. She shouldn't wait for a Knight in shining armour to come rescue her from her situation. No one messes with a nice, capable, stable, confident, smart and financially independent girl.

As years went by, I told my father that I do not need any part of the inheritance because we earn well and did not feel the need to claim the share. Those from an economically stable position should also think that the practice of giving and taking of dowry, and also denial of inheritance, is copied down to the last rung of the society. My first cousin sister, an only parent, has made arrangements for the short stay of only one hundred of her would be son in law's wedding entourage( It could be less if the threat of coronavirus leads to a reduction in the number of wedding guests allowed. We can't deny the fact that every person would move the way we want, as spoken earlier. But what we can do is to create opportunities for the needful. I came up with a twin benefit strategy for our motherland. Instead of reserving jobs on basis of casts, why don't we do the same on the basis of gender, i. e. reserving equal or one-third jobs for each gender so that every single Indian can progress from every background. It is humble request that this simple notion reaches to the mass at large so that it can be implemented sooner. Hoping for the best toward our nation. Jai Hind!🙏🏻

Equality means equal rights AND EQUAL LIABILITIES. If inheritance must be split 50-50 between sons and daughters, then debts and liabilities should also be split 50-50. Demanding equal rights without equal responsibilities is privilege, not equality. Of course, daughters who are willing to accept equal responsibilities should have the same rights as sons... But what if the daughter voluntarily refuses equal responsibility? In those cases, why should she be given equal rights as sons?

Omg the whatabout-ery in this comment. This is like saying " the law should be more strict about medical insurance for old people but what about that old man who cheats? " 🤦🏻♀️ This isn't even ABOUT the law, dude. The law technically has equal property rights for both- it's about how families DON'T let that law be implemented.

Yes. And this goes both ways. The daughter can dent responsibility and still inherit a part of the property just like the son can deny his responsibilities and still inherit property.

Well daughters are ready to take equal responsibility as well but only if she was given a chance to prove her abilities... my father has 3 kids, 2 daughters and a 'younger' son, he went on to spend more than 2 crores on his education from most reputed foreign private universities, will give all his inheritance to him.. me and my sister have mangaed to crack clat and neet from general cat without coaching but still we are not trusted... i graduated law school last year and when i went on to assert the rights he politely dismissed me saying that i and my sister dont belong and carry their name, we both are expected to be selfless and be happy for our brother which we are buf the ignorance of his is what hurts me the most... The question you potrayed in the end only signifies the presumption that daughters will take the property and run away or that she will definitely refuse to share the responsiblities.. my point is there are numerous cases still where sons voluntarily and expressly betray the parents after taking the inheritance but are still trusted, then why are you so scared to trust the women?

She is such an inspiration to all ..RIP such a great soul 🙏🙏🙏 After hearing this...i feel really lucky...i am a single girl child of my parents...yet my parents never raised me under any kind of stereotype...and they support me in every way they can so that i may study well and succeed in my life...my parents say that I am their fixed investment 😅😅 and that i would fulfill all their wishes they have...and i would surely do it....!!! Many of our neighbours used to ask my mother what would you do after she is married...you dont have a son....then my mother used to tell them that 'i dont care if i dont have a son...my daughter will take care of me'....and my parents always tell me.... achieve ur dream and show the world what a girl can do..... I AM SO LUCKY...I AM PROUD OF MY PARENTS.... 😍

My mother took care of her ailing mother on her own and my father supported her. Her brother only visited our house when she died to take care of her last rites. Better to not have sons if they are like my uncle.
