@@toolrammsteindeftones You're right, but terrible is much too strong a word. We don't know what the patents said, first of all, but even if they said nothing, it's also an exceptional circumstance where these children are sitting behind someone who will undoubtedly be the GOAT of women's basketball (and possibly even a star beyond her sport), they will never have this opportunity again, so they would rather risk breaching a rule of sports etiquette -- which is not even that important to begin with -- than look back on this occasion with heartbroken regret for not trying. Autographs mean the world to kids. They certainly did to me when I was their age. Caitlin recognized that and responded appropriately. I don't see anything wrong with any of this. Wholesome moment all round.

Not right now is the appropriate response to the kids. Good lesson learned that there’s a time and place for things. Right place wrong time in this instance. Not the kids’ fault at all btw… they’re kids after all. But their parents need to do a better job of having the situational awareness to not allow their kids to bug a player right in the middle of the game. That is obnoxious.

@@fithrwer6286 You don't have to spend 5 minutes with her to know she is a class act. She hangs around after games to sign autographs or take selfies with the young kids, she's even autographed her game shoes and given them to a young girl 3 times so far. They have to have security around her to get her to the post-game interview, but she signs everything she can. She is the leader of the team and they take their cues from her. For her birthday recently, she bought all of her teammates a pair of Nike tennies. She is a frequent visitor to the children's hospital, she works for free at the Johnson County food bank. They offered her money but she turned down the money. When she does an interview after each game, no matter what the question, she tells about all of the great things her teammates did before she will say one word about herself. She works hard in school as well as on the basketball court. Is there anything I left out?

@@straightchad8059 That is why you aren't selling out arenas, your face is famous wherever you go, and you want your legacy to inspire young kids to play the game. There's a little more than that to her legacy but you get the idea. She wouldn't take the money if she had the chance. She's making money thanks to her NIL. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but her t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jerseys have sold thousands, and that's just in the Iowa City area. I'm glad my kids are grown, because I wouldn't want to have to get them jerseys at $110 a piece. My sweatshirt was $70. That is a LOT more than I typically pay for stuff like that.

I got that video too!!! I have to back this up a bit. When Caitlin came off the floor, she and her teammates were giving each other low 5's, and as Caitlin came to sit, there was a young girl there and Caitlin held out her hand to give her 5 also. It was so cool, and I'm so glad there was a camera there to catch it all. It wasn't until I got it in slo-mo that I realized after the other little girls had asked for her autograph, she said more to the little autograph girl besides "not right now".....a moment later, she said "after the game". So after her interview, she went back to kids, and first came to a little girl with reddish colored hair, gave her a hug, autograph, and selfie, (she was a cancer patient from Stead U of I children's) then went to the 2 girls that were right behind the bench, and signed their signs, gave a bunch more autographs as security gradually got her to the tunnel, but she signed as many as she could. She still had to be at the post-game interview. I got video as well as stills from it all. She is only 5 points away from moving into 3rd place D1 (men's or women's) all time scoring record. Her assists and rebound numbers are equally crazy. She sets records, she breaks records, breaks more records. What she has done to women's basketball is amazing, and I'm so glad she is from Iowa! We LOVE her here!!!
@HannahDisponett

There was a video here on KZbin of that meeting with the little reddish haired kid. The mom says something and then says "this is so special"...Caitlin gets this sad look in her eye, then she smiles and says "well I'm glad you could come"...so I'm speculating that there must have been something wrong with the child (again its just speculation on my part).

@@Soccox I'm gonna correct a couple of things, but otherwise your post is excellent. Caitlin has scored 3,389 points, and with 5 more, she will step into 3rd place of highest scoring women's basketball players. 852 rebounds, and 958 assists. She is shattering records with each game. She hits 3's from the logo routinely and with ease, and you wouldn't believe all of the jerseys, t-shirts, and sweatshirts in the stands at every game that have Iowa 22 on the front and Clark 22 on the back. Her GPA is actually 3.6, and her major is in marketing. Last season, she swept EVERY Natl. Player of the Year award among numerous other awards, she is Iowa’s all-time leading scorer and the first Division-I player to record 3,300+ points, 900+ assists, and 800+ rebounds in a career. Caitlin stated "I want my legacy to be the impact that I can have on young kids and the people in the state of Iowa. I was just that young girl, so all you have to do is dream and you can be in moments like this". Her words, not mine. Iowa's presence in the NCAA tourney last year brought record crowds and record viewers on tv, estimated at 10.1 million. That was in Seattle. When they went to Dallas for the final 4, it was the same story, the arena was packed. This season, when home tickets went on sale, they sold out in hours. As the schedule started to pick up, all of the opponents venues were selling out as well, and you could see Clark jerseys or other shirts in the stands no matter how far away we were from Iowa City. She works for free with the Johnson County food bank, they offered her $22,000 to do the work but she said she would do it for free. She's done 2 All State insurance commercials, a Gatorade commercial, and I'd bet that it was part of her NIL deal with Nike that she even give away her shoes because 3 times so far, she has taken off her game shoes, autographed them and handed them to a young girl who was just waiting for an autograph. I could keep going, but my carpal tunnel is killing me.

They shouldn't have asked for it during the game, but it's totally reasonable for them to expect it at some point being that close to the bench. When I was 13, I went to a UTSA charity event that saw Andy Roddick vs. John McEnroe. During the first set I watch the entire thing via a set of binoculars. At one point Roddick looked directly at me and gave me a thumbs up. I walked down to the court right before the match ended to get my oversized tennis ball signed by Roddick. He met eyes with me, took the ball out of my hands, and then he had it snatched away by a security guard who gave it back to me unsigned. The guard said "no autographs" even though Andy has just grabbed my ball.

@@HannahDisponett my children are adults now but they have met many celebrities in their lives. They were taught to never approach anyone when that person is working or in conversation with someone else. Caitlin was doing both at the time. Last year my daughter and I had the opportunity to meet Shaq. My daughter has been a HUGE fan since she was 8yo. She waited until he finished his conversation with Kim Mulkey and Angel Reese before she approached him. His response “Thank you for waiting while I spoke with them.” THAT’S HOW A RESPECTFUL FAN DOES IT! EVERYONE knows that Caitlin and other CWBB stars will wait around after the game for as long as it takes to sign autographs and take pictures. Did you notice she said no? There’s a reason for that. Caitlin is the best shooter in all of college basketball... by far. She dribbles and shoots anywhere on the court... and can also catch and shoot. That's all very rare... especially in this era. I haven't seen one male player who can come even close. And her passing is just as good. But more importantly... I think that Caitlin is a good person. How would I know... but it's just an impression that I get. Her display of arrogance is very limited.

@Hatred0001 ... what men's player shoots as well as Caitlin from way beyond the 3 point line... or what men's player can dribble and shoot from anywhere on the court? The answer is..... drum roll... no one. Dribbling and shooting is a lost art form in men's basketball. It's because of the 3 point shot. It's mostly catch and shoot. Add Caitlin's ball handling and passing and you have the best player in college basketball. If I were picking sides... I'd pick her first.
