Her points on visualization is gold! And she's right. If you walk yourself through the scary moments and don't feel motivated to still complete your goal, you don't want it enough. Which is hugely insightful and time-saving. Or it could be enough of a realization that you decide you need this challenge and you become intentional about visualizing those hard moments, to push through. Which correlates with science because you get endorphin hits and self-confidence boosts through your journey, not at the end of it.

I had an epiphany a couple weeks ago which is sooooo strange because Mel just said it: so I usually shower with music and a couple weeks ago I decided “you know what I’m not gonna do music. I’m going to just try to just think my own thoughts. What if the music is changing me in a way I don’t want? So I showered silently, with my own thoughts only. I said to myself “when I’m older like an old lady I don’t want to die you know but I will” I was for the first time in my life TRULY TERRIFIED of not being alive anymore. So why am I complaining so much & realized what is the other side of everything in my life and it is death and I was like oh my God I am alive I am here and I don’t know how long I’ll be here that in itself is AMAZING” now I’m still having trouble with that. I keep going back to it it’s not like I’m on cloud nine and everything is so easy in my life since then. But now I realize like I’m starting to learn how precious every moment is oh I said I’m starting to and I just turned I turn 26 so you know it took me this long to actually understand it and I’ve actually been on the cross roads between life and death before and that did not even get me to change I just randomly had this thought

Thank you Mel & Lisa. This was great content. The thing I’d like to remind folks is that the steps to get to the finish line or to build the house are our lives. We need to be connected to those steps rather than blow through them. If we aren’t present as we’re taking those steps then after crossing the finish line what will you have once the adrenaline wears off? Remember to appreciate the steps, include others as you make preparations and appreciate all the hard work you’re doing to conquer each one. That seems the best way to build a rewarding life. I absolutely LOVED when Mel said if you didn’t do it because of a little rain you didn’t want it badly enough. So true.

I'm crying. Literally. My life has been SO hard. I have bounded and crawled over every hurdle. The Bible promises me that hard work pays off. I haven't seen that in the way I have been expecting. My adult life has felt like bags with holes in it. After raising my family, I finally have time again to write. I, too, have been toying with self-publishing. So these stories are exactly where I'm living right now. Since the pandemic, books are popping up like wildflowers, and people are reading them. So thank you for this encouragement. And, exactly how do I self- publish? Can anyone point me to a credible resource? Eyes up. "Ask and keep asking". "Ask and it shall be given to you". "Beyond what you can ask, or think". So, I'm asking.

I just love your conversation. Those women having the negative self-narrative often had some point or pattern in their lives in which their happiness was taken away and they were absolutely powerless and made invisible, no matter what they tried. Or continuously shamed for being selfish. Becoming happy and seeing yourself again is actually threatening then because it can be taken away again, people could even attack you. So negative self-talk is safe because you cannot fall that deep ever again and you don't have to risk abuse or exploitation because of your true self. And then being blamed and shamed for it. When we see a traumatized pet we show patience and slowly ease it into life again. We need that for ourselves, too. ❤

I am not going to use this space to trauma bomb, but for reference of circumstances, I've been homeless with a teenage daughter since getting flooded in March, in recovery from alcoholism and getting my ass kicked by depression and anxiety, and I've been trying to get my decade(+) long dream of running a food truck off the ground. I've had the food truck since May, and man--I've been a chef for 15 years and I was not prepared for this!! I have felt so stuck lately, by all of it. Found this video about a week ago, and I cannot stop watching it!! You ladies delivered so much gold to unpack, I just want it to absorb into my pores! I have felt a tremendous shift in my spirit, and my efforts don't feel quite as futile. Every word spoken and idea presented was exactly what I needed to hear and feel. It has only been a week, but I feel an excitement and power within myself that I haven't felt for a very long time. Thank you both, for what you do.

Many of the things I've heard from you and continue to hear really speak to me. It's like God is using you to expound, in very practical ways, what I read in His Word. In fact, you said something in this interview about acting confident even when you're afraid. This is so aligned with God's Word that He repeatedly says in His book, "DO NOT BE AFRAID". And each time He says it, there's really a reason to be afraid. One lady preacher said it perfectly: Do it afraid. You're amazing, Mel. Can't wait to get hold of your new book.

This is amazing content. Brought tears when she touched about the woman's transformation within 5 days after struggling with body dysmorphia for 20 yrs.

Anyone with a chronic illness faces the silence, the lack of busy, the self, the isolation, the loneliness, the grief, the loss, the realities of the world. This "pause" in the world due to the pandemic is the reality that people with chronic illness have lived often for decades and definitely daily. Now, maybe the world will understand and have more sympathy, empathy, compassion, and understanding and start to value different things, begin to live differently, to take responsibility in a new way, and to truly understand the meaning of resilience.

I want to just hang out with you two and absorb your collective wisdom, energy, and support. I'm literally overwhelmed with comfort, ease, and the thought of "holy shit. My dreams CAN be real."

I was taught, by my family and by the church I was raised in, to put myself last. Once I evaluated my values by putting my needs first, it became easier to value others in healthier ways.
