As a former referee, that was appallingly bad. Stopped the play several times for yellow cards, you only don't play an advantage if you're sending someone off! I don't think it was a pen and from the replay it was on the line not across but I think Hashtag would've likely scored from their advantages that were called back for no reason so overall it's deserved. The double jeopardy rule has been in use for a few season now, surprised they didn’t know how it works. But overall, quality of reffing at this level so far has looked horrendous

It’s not double jeopardy. If the player is making a genuine attempt for the ball while fouling the opponent in the penalty area then it’s a yellow and a penalty kick. If they’re not making a genuine attempt for the ball then it’s a red and a penalty.

09:17 never a red card in the box for something like that, only when a foul is committed with the player having no chance of winning the ball, I.e falling behind and pulling a shirt or just tripping or pushing them or whatever, and also hand balls, from what I’ve concluded tho if it is at a close enough of a range the reff might not give a red

Agree, I do like Spencer and Sebs commentary, but my goodness does it wind me up when they clearly are misinformed on certain laws they always complain about the opposition surrounding the referee, but when reality they are no better than the opposition.

Is it not a red for last man back or denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity or have the laws changed and I've missed it?

@@robnumberthree6232 Red card for a Denial of an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity (DOGSO) which has to tick 4 boxes. CDDD --> Control (does the player have Control of the ball?), Defenders (is it last man?), Distance (is he close to goal?) and Direction (is he heading for goal). THIS IS ONLY FOR OUTSIDE OF THE BOX. For inside the box, if it's last man and it's just a foul (late tackle, getting there a tad late whislt trying to win the ball) then it's a yellow. That's why the red wasn't given and a yellow was. A red is only given if it's a last man and the player who commits the foul pulls a shirt, pushes them from behind and bascially never had a chance of getting it.

The “double jeopardy” rule is quite new but not that new, it’s been in works since I did my refereeing course in 2019

Would you be able to give an explanation of the rule or weigh in on this example? As far as I understand it, the “double jeopardy“ rule, prevents a player from giving away a penalty and getting a red in the same incident( assuming it was accidental). A couple of times including once against hashtag last season, I’ve seen referees not give a second yellow card to player even though it would’ve 100% been a yellow had the player not already been booked. So, does the rule prevent players being sent off regardless of current card status, or was this a mistake by the referee?

@@alexmiddleton2276 So basically a yellow is always a yellow, and factors like if they have a previous yellow SHOULDN’T be accounted for, but then there are of course psychological factors like if it’s early in the game or even like you said when a player already has a yellow, so it can happen but in that case it’s a refereeing mistake! And if the person fouls a goal scoring opportunity in the box, it should be a yellow even if they have a yellow before and should there for lead to a red card anyway! But if the foul is such that the one fouling doesn’t have a reasonable chance of winning the ball in what they are doing I.e handling the ball, pulling the shirt or tripping or other means of foul when the ball is clearly not playable than it should be a red! I have seen an incident where a reff gave a yellow even tho it was a handball (in the box) because it was at such a close range!

Watched live and at the time thought the two decisions were a pen & not over the line. Watching back I now don't think it was a pen & it was not over the line either, so got the rub of the green here! Overall deserved IMO, slightly edged the game it's nice to see non league refs are as bad as the professionals! Also shout out to the blinding neon kits for East Thurrock too. Up the Tags!

The pen to me is the right call. 50/50 chance of there being contact but the ref has no way of seeing it so he'll always give the benefit of the doubt to the attacker. The second goal to me doesn't cross the line though. Never the less great game and up the tags!

If we are playing the ref and ignoring what we are watching then I can see how he gave the penalty, it's tough to make that call because it looked like a penalty before replays showed the flop. Giving the goalie a yellow is safe because it would have been totally unfair for a red if he indeed didn't touch him. I guess only Toby knows. For the second goal, as the ref, you have to trust that your assistant got it right. Even though it was as clear as day, even during the live footage without replay, that it wasn't a goal, the ref had to trust what he was told.

Great play from the boys, I think the penalty is opinionated, it's hard to tell how much contact there is, I would say yes personally. Second goal obviously didn't go over the line, I thought that when I saw it live too, but we will take them all tbh. Harry Hasom defended very well this match, and Pagey with a some amazing saves! Shockingly bad from the refereeing team, never a penalty goalkeeper clearly pulled out and ball was never over the line, I could see both of these things in real time. Just imagine if he had off sent keeper off 🙈They have to be 💯 sure to make these decisions. Hashtag got away with it tonight

Regarding the penalty, it wouldn't be a red because he made an honest attempt to play the ball. I watched the stream and I really enjoyed it but one thing I had a problem with was the reaction to the opposition memberships, saying it takes money away from them but it's not, it's the fans giving them money either way, they just have to share it with another team who are also in an economic crisis

Definitely a dive and not a pen. That’s not how someone trips; that’s a planned fall knowing the keeper is coming out. Shocking it’s 2022 and refs still get conned so easily. It’s like when players roll around as if they’re injured and it fools the ref… no one that’s actually injured ever rolls around. Good to get a win though.

They made a rule change couple of years ago, idk the specific year. But a goalie can't commit a foul leading to a penalty AND get a red card off of that foul. It's called double-penalty and can only be given to the last furthest behind field player

The double jeapordy rule has been there for a fair few years now, and basically it comes down to this. - If the player made a genuine attempt at getting the ball, it is a yellow. - If a player fouls with no intention and/or no chance at getting the ball it is a red ( think like pulling the shirt, or a professional foul tripping him from behind) In this instance it’s fair to say the goalie made a genuine attempt at playing the ball and as such the yellow card is justified.
