Brian Azzarello's run on Wonder Woman is still one of my favorite runs of all time. It is the book that got me into comics. I loved it from issur one but it did just keep getting better and better. One of my favorite things about the series is that it's completely untouched by anything else that's going on in the new 52 and time. It's its own story.

Azzarello's run has some REALLY great ideas, but the reworked origin and the grim tone of it don't really feel right with Diana. If this were an Artemis (the Amazon, not the goddess) book, it would be PERFECT.

This run is one of my absolute favorite comic runs of all time. As a huge fan of mythology, and superheroes, this is just an amazing read. I truly hope that you guys keep going with the other volumes before the Wonder Woman movie comes out. And btw I think that the biggest element they are taking from this book for the movie is the secret daughter of Zeus angle.

This is one of my favorite Wonder Woman runs. Azzarello changed WW's origin's so seamlessly and "kind of" made it better! I also like how the Tiff patiently lets they guys have their shits and giggles for a moment before reigning them back in.

Ethan asked about Heracles, in the new 52 Herc was trapped in like a hellish underworld along with a race of monsters by ancient Atlantis. He was trapped there for like 3000 yrs until the monsters were freed in the Parker Aquaman run. At the end of that run Herc gets tossed back there i think.

To be honest: I always kinda liked Wonder Woman, I started reading her series when Gail Simone and Terry Dodson were working on it. But Azzarello´s work on it got me really hooked on Wonder Woman´s comics and was one of the few New 52 series I enjoyed.

One of the best WW arcs and imo the best run of the new 52. (Yep better then Snyder's Batman, which I thought was overrated) Easily the best thing I've read from Azzarello .More like a Vertigo series in that it is a stand alone, complete story. Made me a big Cliff Chiang fan as well. I don't mind the controversial changes to the origin (I actually prefer her being Zeus's daughter), because it's a great Wonder Woman story that you can read from beginning to end without having to know or worry about any other continuity. Also, in the later volumes we get some pretty cool moments with Orion!

I've never really been a big fan of the New 52 Wonder Woman, mostly regarding some of the changes especially to Diana's origin. But, this is VERY Greek Mythology heavy, like how the gods are portrayed even the amazons are what it's like in mythology. And as a fan of Greek Mythology, I find that aspect kind of awesome. Eris(Strife) is my favorite, and the artwork is cool. Though now it's interesting that Rebirth kind of retconned it out (sort of/not really) to the pre-Flashpoint origin, amazons and gods. Thank you Greg Rucka, I love you.

for me Brian Azerello was interesting and unique but after his run wonder woman became shit so i never bothered to read beyond his run. And its a good place to stop because u can read darkseid war then straight to rebirth and you'll basically understand everything you need to know. Now Greg Rucka rebirth run freaken amazing its a great follow up

Late entry, but I have to say that I read Wonder Woman comics in the late 60s and early 70s. In those editions, Hippolyta was always blond. Originally, she had dark hair but not as dark as Diana's.

Theres a really badass moment in Superman/Wonder Woman where Zod and Faora fight Diana and Clark, and when they have Zod on the ropes, Apolo sends a ray of sunlight on Zod and Faora and supercharges them as a fuck you to Wonder Woman.

FYI, the play on the one word names of the volumes, as Azzarello is know for in his 100 bullets original trades, has to do with the transformation of Diana to (Spoiler?) ... ..... ..... ..... ..... A deity, as the deity in Question utters the Lines "I'll be blood (vol.1). I'll be guts (vol.2). I'll be Iron (vol.3). I'll be... (it's name, which is the name of the fourth volume, in which the line is uttered)". just a fun kind of easter egg. An the whole story arc of the run isn't bad at all.

YES! BLOOD! GUTS! IRON! WAR! FLESH! and BONES! I really like this WW series (although it's also my first exposure to WW comics). So much I can say about this series, but I don't want to write an essay in your comments section. For now all's I'll say is there is a lot of great stuff with the side characters in this run and it's a shame they're gonna get retconned out the wazoo in the wake of Rebirth. I get why, still kinda sucks.

2nd time i watched this back issues,2nd time it's awesome!! this series was the one that made a Wonder Woman(and american comics really) fan,i know Sal doesn't Azzarello too much but i can say here he knocks it out of the park,just like Tiff ;) As an aside,i know it's a common trope with modern Greek myth adaptations,but there is zero evidence in the story that humanity's belief has any effectt in them,esentially they are akin to Asgardian's gods in Marvel,superpowerful aliens that inspired the myths,and just like them,they can get hurt and even die

Tevya Smolka Changing the origin was essential to the story to establish motivations and act as a catalyst. While I agree with you that the original backstory was better for the character long term, if you view the Azzarello run as a self contained elseworld story it allows for a fun take on an established character.
