Only in theaters December 15. #WonkaMovie
Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.
From Paul King, writer/director of the “Paddington” films, David Heyman, producer of “Harry Potter,” “Gravity,” “Fantastic Beasts” and “Paddington,” and producers Alexandra Derbyshire (the “Paddington” films, “Jurassic World: Dominion”) and Luke Kelly (“Roald Dahl’s The Witches”), comes an intoxicating mix of magic and music, mayhem and emotion, all told with fabulous heart and humor. Starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time-proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.
Starring alongside Chalamet are Calah Lane (“The Day Shall Come”), Emmy and Peabody Award winner Keegan-Michael Key (“The Prom,” “Schmigadoon”), Paterson Joseph (“Vigil,” “Noughts + Crosses”), Matt Lucas (“Paddington,” “Little Britain”), Mathew Baynton (“The Wrong Mans,” “Ghosts”), Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water,” the “Paddington” films, “Spencer”), Rowan Atkinson (the “Johnny English” and “Mr. Bean” films, “Love Actually”), Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”), with Oscar winner Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”). The film also stars Natasha Rothwell (“White Lotus,” “Insecure”), Rich Fulcher (“Marriage Story,” “Disenchantment”), Rakhee Thakrar (“Sex Education,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral”), Tom Davis (“Paddington 2,” “King Gary”) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Paddington 2,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” “Mary Poppins Returns”).
Simon Farnaby (“Paddington 2”) & Paul King wrote the screenplay, based on a story by King and characters created by Roald Dahl. Michael Siegel, Cate Adams, Rosie Alison and Tim Wellspring are serving as executive producers. King’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Chung-Hoon Chung (“Last Night in Soho,” “Ah-ga-ssi”); Oscar-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (“Tenet,” “Dunkirk”); editor Mark Everson (the “Paddington” films); Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (the “Paddington” films, “Topsy-Turvy”); and composer Joby Talbot (the “Sing” films). Neil Hannon of the band The Divine Comedy is writing original songs for the film.
Warner Bros. Pictures Presents, in Association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Heyday Films Production, a Paul King Confection, “Wonka,” set to open in theaters and in IMAX internationally beginning in December 2023 and in North America on December 15, 2023; it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Also featuring Kim Kardashian as one of the test subjects for the chocolate that makes you float. When trying it, she successfully left the floor, rising into the air, but she also inflated and expanded hugely into all directions, like a giant hot air balloon! So then they fixed the formula so people could float with more space around them.

When I was a child the original Charlie and the chocolate factory was my favorite movie. I would watch it every day multiple times a day and make my whole family watch with me. Most of my family got tired of me asking them to rewatch it for the 100th time but my grandma never did. She always watched it with me, sung the songs, and rehearsed the lines with me. she never got tired of it. Earlier this year she passed away and I wish I could see this with her but when it comes out I will go see it in honor of her with a empty seat next to me just for her. Edit: I didn’t mean the one with Johnny Depp I meant the original movie with Gene Wilder just forgot it was named Willy wonka and the chocolate factory instead of Charlie and the chocolate factory.

Every character I've seen Timothée Chalamet play is usually soft-spoken and reserved ... so it's kind of odd to see him in an energetic role like this. At the end of the day, though? @@GmmBeast It doesn't feel right because it isn't right. He's good at certain roles, but his range in acting itself isnt very broad. He is incapable of playing certain characters because he doesn't know how to immerse himself in the role. There are much better options to play Wonka, but of course the casting directors care more about mainstream actors rather than the smaller actors. They only chose Timothee because he's the current young attractive guy that girls are fawning over

For some reason it kinda gave me an Edgar Wright feel to it. I know a lot of his elements aren’t there or even exist in the film but the bizarre element of a “ chocolate mafia “ that is trying to take Wonka down seems like something Edgar Wright would do, only way more crazier. The comedy also feels somewhat Edgar Wright too. Like the “ no daydreaming penalty “ and the “ a-huh “ joke. It’s definitely not even close to a Wright movie but it has somewhat of a feel to it, if that makes sense.

A very cool origin story I thoroughly enjoyed it, great visuals, acting, story, and soundtrack. You really got a visceral example of capitalism, greed, corruption, redemption, and justice. Um, I agree that this looks great, but are you aware that Dahl actually hated the older Gene Wilder movie, largely because of how much they changed it without consulting him? The whole reason why it was called "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" rather than "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was at Dahl's request, to put as much distance between it and his book as possible. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Wilder film and again, this new one looks incredible, but imo the 2005 Burton film was more in keeping with Dahl's vision.

This story is before Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The film is based on a novel, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. The movie tells the story about Charlie's childhood, so we can know why Charlie is obsessed with chocolate. I love the acting, music, and graphic in this film. Timothee Chalamet plays the role of Willy Wonka. My favorite character is Willy Wonka because he is very bright and creative. In addition, music and graphic in this movie was so amazing. I was moved with songs and graphic was definitely beautiful. I think this is a great film for people who like fantasy movie and Timothee Chalamet. It makes Timothee Chalamet more charming. I just loved the ending, a pure homage to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, it was just brilliant and so colourful. A modern take on the waterfall room in the original movie. Just loved the whole movie, and to repeat what's been said Hugh Grant a lovely and just brilliant Oompa Loompa. No wonder it made so much money at the box office.

Remember seeing the original as a little kid when it first came out in theaters. Seen it countless times since. I begrudgingly ended up enjoying Tim Burton's version, particularly Danny Elfman's music. This one also looks promising. Should do well, I think.

I think the magic really fails when watching a movie with an actor that doesn’t change their appearance and looks the same as they did in their other movies. They didn’t do an Al Pacino Michael corleone into Tony Montana Scarface. Completely unrecognizable. But this just looks like “Hey it’s that guy from the movie Beautiful Boy dressed up as Willy Wonka” 🤷🏻
@dylan3017

His range is that of a brooding snob. There is no weight in his word choice. The way he said "military" in his first minute of screentime in Dune would suggest he doesn't know how to emphasize that some words have more weight to them. "Absolutely insane" is basically the same. Granted he is trying in this one, but he feels a bit... restrained. I get an "Ed Wood selling his dream with a gun at his head" vibe from him. Film is going to be "meh".

@@maroonhorizon1693I’m so glad to see this comment. I loved Call Me By Your Name as a film but never understood the hype he was getting as an actor. It was made out he was the next big thing and I just couldn’t see it then or now. The actors that came before usually had to build up a big resume and prove their salts in different roles and at the box office before getting that kind of treatment.

I agree he's fantastic but something seems off in this film. Wonka is supposed to be perceived as a mysterious character. He's kinda come from nowhere and the viewer can't work out if he's good or bad. This film gives it all away and has made him all good. I guess it's not really TC's fault, more the production
@gektoast4968
@gektoast4968 10 ай бұрын
@@westyboi1845I kinda disagree. The mystery of if wonka is good or bad is mostly solved in the original movie- when wonka gifts our main character the chocolate factory and we see that he is a good guy after all, he just wanted a good successor to put his trust in, and nothing bad happened to any of the kids.

Ngl, the only reason I gave this a go was because Paul King directed it, and after Paddington 1 and 2, I'd trust him with my life. This was such a sweet delight, and I'm glad I didn't go into it cynically. It was just a heartwarming romp.
