Thanks to Britton Timbers for supplying the American Ash- brittontimbers.com.au/
This Bench Seat is made from solid American Ash. The main seat structure uses a technique called stacked lamination to build up a solid foundation which is then carved back to its final shape. The curves, also made from solid Ash, re-sawn from the same boards to ensure grain colour and continuity, have been cut into thin strips, then formed into its final shapes. The curve on the left also acts as the supporting leg providing a sturdy, usable bench seat that doubles as a sculpture. Overall length- 1800mm
Inspired by the works of Joseph Walsh, (someone who I have admired since coming across his work 10 years ago) this piece was designed to explore personal boundaries with the hopes of developing new techniques and further progressing my skills as a designer/maker. Not only were my hopes met with an enthusiasm which encourages a ‘new chapter’ of my work, but after working with wood for most of my life, it still amazes me that I can get so excited about learning something new.
Shout out to David Picciuto from ‪@MakeSomething‬ who’s video on “Extreme Curves In Woodworking” sparked the idea to make my own bags, allowing me to create the curves that you watched in my video. You can watch David’s video here- • Extreme Curves in Wood...
Standard Questions-
- What finish do I use - Fiddes Hard Wax Oil (I first applied 2 coats of ‘White’ Tinted Hard Wax Oil then top coated with ‘Satin’ Hard Wax Oil (link below)
- What glues do I use - Polyurethane Glue for the stacked laminations and Techniglue for the curves

Even though I try to present as much information as I can in my KZbin videos, there’s only so much that can be passed on from a video with no talking which is why I decided to start up this Patreon page. My goal here is to give those of you who are interested, an inside look into my processes and reasonings as to why I design and build projects the way I do. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced woodworker, I’m confident that you’ll be able to take away advice from this Patreon Account, and of course your support allows me to make more KZbin and Patreon videos. www.patreon.com/pedullastudio Thanks for watching

You asked the question at the end EXACTLY how I was asking it myself: “What on earth did I just watch?” Halfway through the video, I was about to say that this was just far too much work for a bench! But as an artist, I realized that this isnt just a “bench,” it is creative- artistry at its finest, which you can’t put a time-limit on, or quantify the amount of work involved. Simply brilliant! Bravo! 👏🏾

There are plenty of KZbinrs who are experts at what they do (I'm talking about the skill they are sharing, not their content creating skills, though there are experts in that as well), but I think this has got to be the single greatest demonstration I've seen of a truly elite craftsman showing us how he does it. Before KZbin, if I saw this bench, I might have thought it was made by a wizard, or it was an illusion. I'm exaggerating, of course, but it's just tremendously generous of you to show us how you did it. Amazing.

This is amazing and extremely timely too! I've been thinking of doing something with intertwining curves for about a month now, but I don't have a steam bender (or a workshop in general, but luckily many things can be done on a kitchen table), so seeing that it isn't the only way to curve large pieces of wood, is quite the relief. Idk when I'll be tackling the project I'm trying to conceptualize (idk exactly _what_ I want to build with curves), but I know I will do it and this video was a massive help. And thanks for showing the full power of our field, time and time again. I love every single video

Then make real world adjustments as I was building it. Wow, your creative vision and steadfast patience and courage is off the charts my friend! After watching many of your build videos and seeing you deliver incredible pieces each uniquely their own, each exquisite, one after another I believe there must be some inner voice that saying let’s test your limits and each time you respond nope haven’t reached it yet! Clearly, you are cruising at a rare altitude few have ever seen.

This is the first time I've seen one of your videos and I just wanted to say how impressed I am, not only with your craftsmanship but also the design. There's a lot of great woodworkers out there, but very few are also exceptional designers. Thanks for all your hard work putting content like this together. I'm sure, as a new subscriber, I have plenty to look forward to and to look back at.
