Remarkable talent Doug, an early sunday morning treat watching you carve that figure. You remind me of that bushy haired guy on PBS who taught us to paint. Great job on the carving, and the painting as well. Just like something you`d find in a store. Thank You for sharing your video, and your amazing talent. ATB

Hi Doug! I am new to your carving videos, and cannot get enough of them. The way you present everything is just incredible, you seem to really enjoy the work, and you make the hobby feel very accessible to someone who has never put blade to wood before! It’s the mark of a true artist to make something so beautiful feel like anyone could do it, and I wanted to commend you for it. You are truly an artist, and your art is absolutely wonderful - AND you definitely have me wanting to get my hands on some basswood and a knife! Keep up the great work, all the best! EDIT: I can’t believe my auto correct just changed your name on me. LOL! So if you saw that before I corrected it.....oops! Sorry about that. 🤦🏻♂️

just did the follow-a-long on this today, what fun ! thanks ! I did your little man last week but doubled the size. Came out ok... I was using what I think was green sycamore and it was a challenge to carve.
@Brandywine69696 жыл бұрын
I love this. I would love to see the Christmas Tree carving you mentioned in the video too. Your carving videos have helped me more than any of the others so far. I still have to pause and go back a little in the video quite a bit, but I was finally able to carve my first ever successful carving was while watching your "most satisfying" video. I gave it to my mother because I was afraid I might mess it up trying to make it better. I am horrible at painting the carvings though. I mean, I can paint the clothes and hats ok, but I still cannot paint the eyes to save me. I think it is because my little blocks of wood are from the one whittling kit I can afford and they are all smaller pieces of basswood. You get 10 small pieces of basswood in it and most of them are very small. So, I don't have much room to maneuver to paint the eyes.
@WastedTalent-6 жыл бұрын
Go to Rockler.com. They have 20 lb. boxes of basswood scrap for about $30 (or if you hit it on a sale, only $20). You can usually find coupon codes for free shipping, too. I've bought a few of their boxes over the years and the wood is great. There's big, small, flat, and in between sizes. You'll be happy with it.

Thank you Doug and keep them coming. Love the pumpkin by the way.

Hey Doug. Really enjoying your videos. I'm watching this years after you did it.. I see your shirt and sometimes a maple leaf, Canadian? I'm watching from east coast Canada, PEI actually and can't find basswood around here. Pine is the softest wood I can find. Doesn't make much difference power carving but using a knife on basswood would be better. Keep the vids coming.
