It's an affordable and practical size which allows anyone to obtain it so they can see and feel just how amazing Woodpeckers squares are. Once that is accomplished, it is very hard not to want more. That is not a very bad problem to have for a great quality of tool. I have that problem too, but I have a bigger problem and that is there are so many Woodpecker tools and not enough money for them all.

Hi Jeff: well I love the square and use it all the time. Sad note is that I dropped it and dinged the corner - Crap! I don’t have another precision square to check it against, so what’s the best way to check to see if it’s still square? I probably should know of a method but I really don’t. Thanks, Rich

So...this should not be the "be all, end all" test, but it is a quick start. You need a piece of stock with a very straight edge. Put the square on the edge and strike a line. Flip the square over the other direction and bring it to the line. It it aligns, your square is good to go. Regardless of that test, if you're concerned send it in. We'll recalibrate it and send it back to you. If we can't make it square, we'll replace it.

It would be nice to see a link to the online store and watching the whole presentation you get a discount code. Thats stated in parts durring the whole presentation you cant just find it at the end you have to watch it all and write down each letter as its reviled to you. That way your going to pay 100% attention.

I would like to see a 3" square in stainless. I'm always trying to make sure the edges of my boards are square to the face after hand plane work on the edges. The larger squares make it awkward and I've dropped them due to sawdusty hands and awkward size of the square. Starrett makes one and I'll probably get one of those if WP doesn't make them.

Have you seen our mini-square? It's not stainless, but it is perfect for checking edges. Very handy little tool to keep in your pocket all the time. We even have customers that use them as key fobs.

@@WoodpeckersLLC I wanted to try stainless because I keep dropping the aluminum ones and I hate that because they easily get damage on the corners from the concrete. I was thinking that the stainless would handle the drops a little better than aluminum.

Thing is, you can dress off the dings in aluminum very easily...pretty much anything abrasive will do it. Stainless is much harder to dress.

Neat trick, if you have a damp basment shop, in pill bottles they almost have a moisture absorbing device that says do not eat, you also find them in electronic devices shipped overseas drop a few of these in each tool box draw and it should asorbe the humidity so your tools don't rust. Its free insurance.

Why are your measurements on both sides not aligned like a normal tape measure has both sides aligned? For instance the 11” line on the outside to at least match the 9-1/2” mark on the inside of the square?

The outside scale reads from the outside corner of the square. The inside scale reads from the inside corner of the square.

We should do a "behind the scenes" video of me the day before a shoot. That really is my personal basement shop and I work in it 3 or 4 evenings during the week and all day Saturday and Sunday. The day before a shoot can be a little crazy with cleaning and putting away. That said, the fact that it is our basement and the HVAC for the whole house is 15 feet from the shop makes me pretty fanatical about dust collection all the time.

They're great, until you drop them - then they're worthless except as an (awkward) ruler. I don't have a padded shop floor, so it's stainless steel for me.

I think you can return them if they are ever out of square. they will repair or replace as needed. I can't say if dropping fits in normal use or not. but their copy reads: We take great pride in the design and manufacturing of these squares. So much so that we will repair or replace your 1281 anytime you find it to be out of tolerance. No fine print, no disclaimers. If it’s not square, we’ll make it square or replace it.
