My dirty mind read the title as ‘cock-a-licious bowl’ at first so when you used THAT clip of apple pie I laughed out loud!! Also if you tried it again couldn’t you put a smaller container in the middle to save some resin and save some corks. Love your creativity and videos!!

Nick, Are the bowls you make out of that resin "food safe?" I also have a challenge for you. Make another one....yeah, I know what you said, but listen to me anyway. Fill a mould with the cork, place a wire mesh with gaps that are large but not so large that the corks will come out over the top and adhere it in place with tape or something. Then, using Blue and Yellow for the colors, pour the epoxy in through the gaps in the mould. You will probably still need to do the pour a couple of times because the cork will probably soak up a considerable amount. Would love to see the results of this process, and you are the only one that can make the miracle work! Keep up the excellent work!

Love the way that turned out. I was thinking next time you make a bowl though, You might want to super glue the cork pieces into specific pattern, so that way you can control the look a little bit. Also, for a wine connoisseur, a cork cutting board might be an interesting project. Or a set of cork in resin coasters.
@tehladyjade
@tehladyjade 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure how well the superglue would do with/to the resin, but I have seen small amounts of resin used to "glue" bits in place & cured before adding addition layer or layers of resin.
@timcarter1164
@timcarter1164 4 жыл бұрын
@@tehladyjade... I've seen several makers who use resin and fhey use super glue at the same time. Although a lot of them will use a UV cured resin. They simply put a drop between the two pieces to be glued, hit it with a UV light and it's bonded. But using the correct cyanoacetate glue, it should be no problem.

Half way through this I really thought it would have looked more interesting if you'd turned this blank round to have the corks more to the bottom of the bowl.......... But seeing the finished piece, I have to admit that you probably made a better choice. Out of interest, did the pressure pot force the resin into the corks much? Or were they still a bit spongy?

Sashabella1 unless you know what shape you want from the beginning, it’s better to have more and reduce down. It’s a lot harder to add onto it later if you don’t have enough material! I wonder this all the time, though. So much seeming waste. At the same time, you can use wood chips as kindling, garden bedding, all kinds of landscaping and decor. I know Nick’s used all the waste in the past to make more stuff so. -shrug-

Seeing different things on your channel is refreshing. I'm a disabled 34 yo that works from home doing this. I live in a small apartment with my wife and two kids so my "shop" is a workbench 5 feet from my bed. Keep doing what your doing you've definitely inspired me to try new things from time to time.

On another note I’ve seen peter brown use stabilizing resin to fill in the holes of porous woods. It adds weight so maybe that might help keeping corks from floating so much? I’ve never tried it and it seemed kind of unsuccessful the two times I saw him use it... so take that with a grain of salt.

I’ll say it again: I’m looking forward to the video where you cast a bunch of keys in colorful resin, toss them into a form and add a bunch of clear resin, and then turn a FUN KEY BOWL out of it. 😉

I would have thought you would need to stabilize the cork but I love it!

That turned out so cool, wasn't sure if the corks were going to make it through the turning, but they did great!

Happy days!!!! You Could have done the other way round... keep the corks on the bottom and hollowed the black resin... I wonder how it would come out!!! Anyway, great job, as always!!! Cheers.

The video is beautiful, but the slow motion at the beginning makes it wonderful😆😆

The bowl looks awesome but you might need using stabilizing resin to stabilize the corks next time so It can stay at the bottom but that's just my opinion

Wowzza !!! What a bowl. I thought the corks were going to cause a problem by crumbling off in chunks. You make the coolest stuff. Thank you for sharing 🌞🌞🌞. Ps I found you from the church pew restoration you did. Loved it and I love the randomness of your projects. Congratulations on your 550K subs. It’s taken me a while to get to 260.

That looks awesome Nick! Always something good from you. Question, where did you get the little emblem with your name on it? I would like to get some of them for my projects. Thanks for sharing. John

You couldn't keep JUST wood turning and grow very much. I'm gonna keep watching and I'm gonna keep mentioning doing some more blacksmithing ad nauseum.

Hi Nick I have done something similar last week. I think the chip out happened, because you let the resin settle longer than usually. I made a video of the project.
