!!WEIRD COMMENT ALERT!! So, before I get weird, let me say that I absolutely love these videos. I haven't seen a single piece that I haven't loved, and they make me want to buy this equipment for myself. As an artist who has sometimes given up too quickly on a piece in the past, your persistence in the face of the issues that crop up sometimes during your work is also incredibly inspiring. (like how you simply jump into filling in unexpected crack or hole in your wood with resin, instead of starting over and scrapping the work up until that point) !Weirdness ahead! I've never understood the usual "whisper everything" ASMR, but the sounds of the wood being carved and chipped away on the spinner is deeply relaxing in a way I can't describe. (side note: does anyone feel that same way about Mario's footsteps in on the pavement in the courtyard in Mario 64? If I could find one, I'd totally put on a 10-hour vid of him running in circles around the fountain just for background noise) (If you could make this piece I'm about to describe, I'd totally buy one) I could easily see a vase made similarly to this piece functioning as a piece of art that represents mental illness. If I were to attempt to make this version of it, I'd make the rings thicker and intentionally glue them together so that their centers aren't all aligned, making it more of a messy stack of layers. I'd carve the outside as you normally do, so that the outside is completely smooth and uniform, but leave the inside blocky and mismatched. At the risk of sounding pretentious: the dichotomy of the smooth, but somewhat abnormal patchwork outside, and the jumbled, rough inside would be a perfect mirror to a person who is obviously different, but hides the depth of their mental abnormalities. I probably only thought of this because my own mental issues are front and center in my mind. I'm currently working on an illustration based on the second verse of "Holding On To You" by 21 Pilots, so I've got issues on the brain.
@brokenprincessofhell47434 жыл бұрын
I read all of that and the third last paragraph is a good idea, i can imagine that. I am a perfectionist so the inner part being not smooth would bother me, but when you think about mental illnesses.. They bother you too. You want to get mentally healthy. So i guess that fits very good. But maybe make it something else than a vase 🤔 piece of art definitely, but a vase🤔🤔
