I had a bowl like that, with cracks. I've still got the bits! It exploded, and took out one of my fluorescent tubes. That's why I never stand in the line of 'fire'! I think hollowing through a small hole is the most dodgy operation in turning. I like the shape. Well done! .

I live about 5 minutes away from the Grizzly showroom in Bellingham Washington and I stop by every week to check out the scratch and dent room to purchase a wood lathe. I’m 77 and I have my Dads Craftsman lathe that he had for 20 years and I’ve had it for 25 and I believe he got it used so it’s time to upgrade. I always hope to run into the founder of the company. If you ever get a chance get and read his book. He started with a dream and went on to build a great business. He makes his own rifles that he is a master at that also. He came to America with a dream and built a company. If you ever want to see a dream come true stop by.

Aye up Harry, very fine work, i've never used Milliput, but clearly very effective. I've got a pile of rounds waiting to be turned, but some how other woodwork takes priority. Cheers

Very nice. Try wrapping the piece with a plastic bag between turnings of more than 10 minutes to reduce the cracking and warping! Unless that is what you are looking for. So what was going on at 11:20? Did you reverse the lathe?

That is one beautiful bowl. It would have looked even more Oriental if you had used a gold filled wood putty like the Japanese technique of attaching broken shards of pottery using gold.

I thought “oriental” was a bad word nowadays Guess the British still don’t care. No one will notice since you don’t speak English Can we we get subtitles in the future for the English speaking audience?
@solidarityworkers69003 ай бұрын
The noun Oriental has a long history of association with colonialism. While Oriental does not appear to be offensive when describing a rug or types of cuisines. It is unacceptable to use the word in association to that of a person. I'm sure Harry would never deliberately set out to offend anyone by the use of language and as this is an inanimate object it would appear to be acceptable usage. This isn't a site to debate outdated language or whether describing a hollow form object constitutes potential racist connotations, it is for woodturning enthusiasts and those that appreciate talented artists. But if public opinion dictates change then perhaps the use of - 'Associated with eastern Asia, especially China and Japan Bowl', would be appropriate. It may make the title a little wordy but politically correct? 😮🙄🤔
