Since I was the one to ask about the collet chuck, I am in your debt. I have tons of wood and tools that I need to sharpen (bench grinder is next). Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

I started using hot glue thanks to you and it is the best, especially because i don't have a chuck.

Thanks Carl for all your turning videos!!! I've been looking for different ways to hold small projects on the lathe and your info on glue blocks and pin chucks were very helpful... I'm going to make a variety of pin chucks now and will look into a good, heavy glue gun also. Thanks again for all you do to assist us newbies and make turning easier and safer!

Carl, I am glad you did one on the pin chuck, but am a bit confused still as to exactly how it works. How does that little pin hold the wood onto the bar?

The smaller guns you mentioned are usually "Warm melt" glue guns which has to be softer to melt. I was able to score a Hot melt gun from Hobby Lobby for about $7 with coupon and get the sticks at Wally World.

Love your videos, I've learned a lot. I did want to throw out a suggestion for anyone making a pin chuck. You could have the rod center drilled so it could be supported by a standard 60° live center.

I've used the smaller glue gun with no issues. The only issue I had was parting off the work piece the 1st time. The frugal side came out and I was trying to part off right on the glue joint not thinking. Thankfully I had my faceshield on, it protected my ugly mug from getting hot glue thrown at it. One of these days I'll get out some high grit sandpaper and clean up my parting tool.

You could always use the tailstock to press the waste block against the closed jaws of your chuck long enough to cut a tenon on one face. By the way, glue gun looks just like mine - that I bought at Sears 30+ years ago. Don't remember what it cost, but it wasn't very expensive.

Hi Ron, Yes that's a problem but I don't have a way to make a tenon on them with out a lot of work.

I've only used this gun. I think if you can get a big gun it would be best.

Sorry Carl, I meant that I NEED a grinder, lol. I have been using the carbide tipped tools since I can't grind my bowl gouges. Didn't know they came unsharpened. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
