Woodturning with roots is without a doubt my favorite material to create with. Every piece is very unique with the wood grain going in every direction. I picked up a large root ball for free from Offer up a few months back. It had been used as a decoration in someone’s garden and had been sitting out in the elements for years. It has lots of voids and rotted spots in it, so before making something big I decided to cut a corner off of it and make a small box to see how the wood grain looked and if it would be worth my time to make something with the rest. After a bit of a design concept struggle, I was eventually very happy with how this piece turned out. This was my first time using Clean Armor UV finish. I am extremely impressed with the result. I was able to finish this piece with 4 coats in just a few hours. Including wet sanding and polishing. This process would have taken me 5+ days with a more conventional finish. The Clean Armor stays in its liquid form until cured with a UV light for roughly 5 minutes, and is then ready for the next coat. I will for sure be using this finish in the future. The Clean Armor is definitely far from low cost, but the time saving aspect is huge. Thank you to Super Clear Epoxy for providing the deep pour resin for this video. As always, thank you for watching. I hope you all have a wonderful day! Scott Please check the description for links to products and tools used in this video.

Sitting down for 15 min. and presketching a piece would probably be very helpful with the pairing issue you mentioned. It also allows you to compare several options before committing to nonreversible carving. I highly recommend 1/4in grid paper and a standard .7 mechanical pencil. It also improves your drawing ability, so you're leveling up 2 skills at once, lol. 😅

@@squareandlevel how do you get the gloss finish? Do you buff it after curing with the UV? I’m blown away by that finish. I use multiple coats of spray lacquer then buff which is very time consuming.
@squareandlevel2 ай бұрын
This was my first time using this finish so I still need to work on the application technique, but it was really easy. I am very impressed. I did wet sand and buff the bowl part. But I kinda got it figured out by the second attempt on the lid. I applied 4 coats and only buffed it after final coat cured. It was very easy. I think the foam brush applicator worked best moving very slowly. I wish my lathe would spin slower, I think it would make it even easier to apply. Maybe I need to buy a lathe made in this century. 🤣. Hope that info helps. I will be using this type of finish moving forward without a doubt. It’s pricey, but the time it saves makes it worth it to me personally. Scott
