Nice bench. If the chisel was sharp enough it would be easy to chop the mortice. Also the rubber mallet likely absobs a lot of the energy, wooden mallet would be more efficient to transfer it to the chisel.

This is beautiful, trying to make one of these for a kung fu form I learned recently called the "Dragon Bench" which uses one of these as a weapon.

Very good work,you probably know but that looks like it would make a great work bench , with a few dog holes drilled in the top.How did you work out the compound angle of the legs? have you plans of your wonderful bench?

yes the short side I changed once when I realize it is not wide enough...so have to change a lot angel due to that
