I'm gonna try to make one for my sister, the design being her beagle. I initially thought of using different colored woods for the hair, but I only have 10 days til Christmas and have never attempted anything like it, so paint it is! I'll probably blow up the picture of the dog, glue it on, then paint over it since it'll be pixelated, then I just have to color match. I'm gonna paint the chime balls to look like tennis balls. Wish me luck!
