Suman I found you through you posting/replying on another guys channel. I love your enthusiasm showing your shop off. You have a really great start on a shop with some great tools. It doesn't look like you're sponsored and have spent a decent amount out of your pocket to equip your shop. So many folks out there push to get sponsors and when they get them they change their style and are slaves to them. I like what you are doing and where you are headed. With the hand tools and the joinery they do you are paying some dues. Many new woodworkers/makers don't bother to do that and are only interested with money, likes, subscribers and so on. I am not a subscriber yet as I have only watched a couple of your vids. Keep on keeping on brother!

Thank you so much for the kind words. Managing personal financial interest on YT as a platform can be a tricky balance. Frankly, I had my doubts about doing a shop tour video as it is difficult to not come off as showy. My goal with making videos has been simple: how will this add value to folks watching? Am I providing a unique perspective or demonstrating something nuanced/novel? I can’t say I’ll hit those points all the time, however, they will always be the goals I strive for. I hope you will come back and watch a few videos in the future as I have some great topics & projects in the pipeline. Cheers!

Better dust collection is one step, but dust extraction is a whole other topic. I am fortunate enough to have recently added an Axiom air purifier to my shop as the dust collectors I had were not getting the fine particles. Hopefully I will be healthier for it.
@WoodcraftBySuman2 жыл бұрын
Agree completely. Since this post, I got a nice big dust collector. But irrespective of dust collection, I’ve always used p100 respirators in the shop or specialty cartige if the task calls for it. Shop air purifier is another good method but for me, I like to make sure there is active filtration before hitting my lungs.

damn, what an awesome shop! i'm super envious about that nice planer, still saving for such a good one. 😉 good choice on the tra001 for the router table, it's a hell of a machine. 👍 cheers from switzerland 😀✌
@WoodcraftBySuman3 жыл бұрын
In the states, the TRA001 is actually an inexpensive router compared to similarly powered routers. I always found it interesting because the triton provides more value and is better designed to be mounted on a router table. Regarding the planer: Is the Hammer A31 priced better in your area since it is somewhat closer to you guys? In the US market, MRP is $5200 USD. Often goes on sale for $4550 USD. Thank you so much for watching! Cheers!

Hello Suman You have a great shop! I like your energy so I'll be checking out some more of your videos. I'm excited to see your workbench when you get to it. Not sure where your with that but as beautiful as Purpleheart is, its a pain to work. Its a very hard wood. You didnt go into much detail in this video but maybe using the purpleheart as an accent may be a better choice than making a whole bench out of it. Also in case you didnt know, UV light turns purpleheart brown so keep it protect and out of the sunlight!
@WoodcraftBySuman3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Agreed - purple heart is a beautiful wood and not ideal for a workbench, especially if its solid all the way through. I actually really like softer woods like quality pine or poplar for a workbench. However, the purple heart workbench build will have little to do with practicality and more to do with ridiculousness. Main reason for purple heart is because of the color as it is the theme for the channel. I'll do my best to keep it from darkening, however, I imagine that'll be difficult to prevent over long periods of time. I'm still waiting on a super awesome vice to come in. Ordered it about 8 months ago and still waiting. Hopefully in a month or so. Thank you for watching!

Great shop! How do you like having the router in your table saw extension? I've considered doing that as well. Subbed and looking forward to your content!
@WoodcraftBySuman3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Jeremy and Jess! I absolutely love having the router table extension on the table saw. A full sized dedicated router is largely unnecessary for a hobby or even semi-professional shop, imho. It saves so much space and there is zero compromise on functionality. It does make the right side of the saw a bit heavier than usual. Ideally you'd want to use the legs that may come with your saw for extension arm of the fence. If you have a sawstop, the industrial base does a great job of balancing out the cantilever weight. Highly recommend a cast iron extension wing to prevent sagging. If you don't get the cast iron early on, you'll eventually switch to the cast iron. Might as well just get one up front :)

Awesome shop tour!!! Comment what I would add? Hmm. Your tools are incredible. I’m a little surprised that I didn’t see a miter saw. I love mine and used it all of the time. I’m looking at upgrading to a sliding saw. Do you not like miter saws in your style of woodworking?
@WoodcraftBySuman3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. The main reason I'd want a miter saw is to break down longer boards into something more manageable in length. I prefer to do that using a circular saw instead. Since I've heard folks state their miter saw isn't super accurate for 90s and 45s (i mean SUPER accurate), I prefer to workaround it by using jigs on the tablesaw. I do have the evolution miter saw (terrible tool, btw) that is supposed to be able to do both wood and metal. I primarily use it to cut metal and haven't bothered cutting wood with it. That tells me I don't really need a miter saw for my style of woodworking. lol

Isn't leaning your lumber against the garage overhead door, putting stress on the panels and hinges?
@WoodcraftBySuman3 жыл бұрын
A little bit. But 90% ish of the weight is transferred to the concrete. I plan on replacing the doors in a year or so with better insulated doors. So I’m not particularly worried about damaging them.

@@WoodcraftBySuman K. I’m planning on building a similar size shop. Do you wish yours could be larger?
@WoodcraftBySuman3 жыл бұрын
@@partsdave8943 for me? No. I can do most things I want without feeling cramped. But I also chose not to buy more tools to keep the floor space (planer, larger CNC). But if I had the option to make it from scratch, I would oversize, just in case (~30x40). I only store small amount of lumber in my shop and the rest in the basement of the house. I suppose it would help to have them all in the shop. 20x30 is very reasonable for a hobby woodshop. 30x40 would probably be future proof with all of your tool desires.
