That's how the movie handles it, in addition to making the phone emit the godawful nearby horror noise. Also the main character loses it in pretty short order along with her cool coat. Honestly it's odd that they thought of that, because the script is pretty garbage and nonsensical otherwise.

That moment when you finally unlock the door to the backyard and it suddenly goes dark and the music kicks in is peak survival horror. They make wonderful use of the lighting and menacing score to create an atmosphere of pure dread, and it's a testament to what psychological horror can be in videogames, even in an old game such as this.

Funny story, I was like 19 or so and alone in the house playing SH1 when it first came out and I looked outside and it was foggy as hell, just like in the game and I hit that section where you go out the back door and everything changed like you were talking about and I was like: "Nope! Think I'll wait till some more people get home to play this!"

Given how often Woolie mentions a cell phone would solve Harry's problems, I'm beginning to doubt he actually played Shattered Memories at all. That game _loves_ giving you ways to use your cell phone, but at the end of the day, a cell phone can't save your daughter from her repressed memories and psychological trauma. EDIT: Also, Reggie would love Evil Within 2. "Man, I really gotta find my daughter. But let's put in some time at the range first."

@@Nemesis_T-Type Interestingly, in Shattered Memories, they let you call 911. The operator asks what your emergency is and Harry tells her his daughter's missing, but for some reason, the operator either can't hear him or thinks he's playing a prank and eventually hangs up on him.

Watching Woolie work his way through Silent Hill is interesting. He's approaching it fresh so sometimes he can come up with some neat ways to deal with things. His methodical approach to combat is a lot different than my approach to combat in Silent Hill. Which was primarily "Don't". Also, man Silent Hill was a gem. I legitimately think that Silent Hill's story is the top when it comes to Silent Hill but nothing can match Silent Hill's atmosphere. The use of music, sound and lighting is super effective. There is nothing quite like industrial demons sounds in a room for no reason to make you feel uneasy. Midwich is an iconic location.

I learned how to utilize the melee weapons. Taking down a flyer with the steel pipe can be very satisfying. I think I did that with SH 1-4. Especially 4, where I learned that a full charge swing has I-frames.

Not mention some of the music is basically distorted everyday objects like a dentist drill and a washing machine which makes it feels so eerie that you want to just get the hell out of there and screw the kid. (Of course we cant do that but vibes just fit perfectly)

In my small town we had the exact same air raid siren as our normal "fire" siren. We would frequently have foggy days, too, during fall. On one such day I was 13 playing this and the IRL air raid siren kicked in as I exited the house with the keys and in-game the score went sinister and it was easily one of the scariest things that ever happened to me.

It's insane how well this holds up, something about the moment where harry shoots that zombodog out of the air in the dark while the snow falls that felt very 90s horror movie. It reminded me of CRTs and the way some movies and games could use the DARK darks those tvs were capable of. It's genuine lost media in a way at this point, that many people come back to these games and, even if they hold up, are missing that CRT experience the game was so clearly tailored for. This isn't me saying I expect Woolie VS to somehow record on a CRT or some nonsense, I'm just shaking my fist at a cloud.

If you try to store items in your mailbox in the US the letter carrier will most likely remove them. It's illegal to place items other than mail (with paid postage) into a mailbox, carries a large fine too. I assume the mailbox owner gets the fine, laws are hard to read. The item being bullets probably won't help either. Anyway, everybody knows Americans store bullets in the pantry, where people in other countries would put their eggs.
