Gowron was such a politician. He had sweet words and always asks for more but never gives. Martok was a true warrior and honourable friend.

He was, even unto his end. It's just he was also selfish and shortsighted, risking the war effort and the Alpha Quadrant's survival, just to discredit Martok, a rival in his own eye. Alas, in the Empire, acting selfishly in this way is a perfectly honorable way to serve one's Royal House, unless Worf and Martok manage to foster some changes...

@Don-ol8ze Жыл бұрын
I agree. That was character assassination - the Gowron who led the Empire through TNG and saved Quark from being murdered was not the same character who sacrificed Klingon lives needlessly and risked losing a crucial war all over petty jealousy and paranoia. I like DS9, but their handling of Gowron's end was really poor writing - if the character changed that much, the audience needed to see how/why.
@Swarm509 Жыл бұрын
@@Don-ol8ze The problem is they didn't flesh it out well enough. If they had shown that acting as Chancellor had began to twist him, change him in a better way due to internal politics or the war or maybe even a hereditary issue, it would of made more sense. We have seen leaders start off on way and change over time. He could of been putting up a front and power/leadership changed him. Or it could be a Caligula style thing where he was always crazy and it finally starting to come out/crack him. They were trying to cover a lot at the end of the series so maybe he is just a victim of that.
@highstimulation2497 Жыл бұрын
would 'have' made more sense. "Would've" is a contraction of the words would and have, and yes, there wasn't time. They said if they had had (not of had, had had) twelve additional episodes, they could have used them.)
@danieldickson859111 ай бұрын
I have to disagree to some extent. I agree that Gowron's descent could have been made clearer. But right after his ascension to power, when he started claiming all the credit for his victory over the Duras family, showed him to be a political schemer. His display of respect to Quark cost him nothing.
@antilarge7860 Жыл бұрын
Gowron was correct and Worf must have already assumed/known what Gowron told him. I love this part in Worfs character arc because it ties in all the way through DS9.

Let's say *late* DS9. I'd argue the Gowron in "House of Quark" is consistent with his characterization in TNG. His end, however, was character assassination - the writers had him act out of character, with any justification poor at best.
@jonreese7066 Жыл бұрын
@@Don-ol8zeI think Gowron was pretty consistent in TNG and DS9. Gowron look honorable but he never was honorable. Worf asked him to correct a wrong and while he acted shock he still refused to do what is right because it was politically dangerous since the power of the Duras family was great. Even after the Duras family and its supporters left. Worf bringing in the supporters of Kurn was not enough. Gowron wanted Star Fleet help. when he was challenged for leadership duting the civil war he stabbed the guy while Worf was trying to calm him down In a later episode, Worf learned Gowron was rewriting history claiming his genius won him the war without help from Starfleet even in house of Quark. by removing the other house he can confiscate its assets In contrast Martok welcomed Worf into his family even if it would anger Gowron
