Work In Progress: Light Piercing Through Darkness

This event is a part of Works In Progress, a monthly workshop series by the Research Cluster for the Study of Race and Inequality for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to present their works in progress and receive feedback from their peers.
Abstract: A Christian. A Black woman. An academic advocate. In this order, these words capture the essence of who I am. For many years, I experienced an internal conflict between these identities. Light Piercing Through Darkness takes you on the journey of how I resolved this conflict and allowed my intersecting identities to merge as one.
Through my Works in Progress Session, I hope to share how Light Piercing Through Darkness, a spoken-word video project, helped me evolve as a scholar. In the span of 10 months, I discovered my identity as a Christian, scholar advocate. Developing this piece gave me the confidence to understand and justify my research decisions through my identity as a Christian, Black woman and Advocate.
