Workhorse P32 Coil Spring Replacement

My goal at U Fix it Garage is to save you money by helping you to do repairs yourself. In this video, I show how to replace the front coil springs on a Workhorse P32 motorhome chassis. Don’t believe the shops that tell you that this job can only be done by a large truck shop. This is a big job, no doubt, but its one you can absolutely do yourself.
Parts for this job were purchased from Henderson’s Line Up. They are a great company to work with. Their coil springs are calibrated for the exact weight of your front axle and have a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for this comprehensive tutorial. Well done... in a sea of vague videos. Good camera angles...easy to see what you are talking about. Thorough. That's helpful when a viewer is learning how to do something for the first time. Now I know i can do it myself. I just purchased a 97 bounder 2 months ago. A friend drove it home. I drove behind it and watched it sway like a boat on wheels. So here I am researching the chassis upgrades necessary to make it drive better. In a previous video of someone replacing a front airbag the comment... "if these chassis' were outfitted to carry a "motor home" they would have had larger capacity springs to begin with". So there it is. They were under specified. No wonder the person that I bought it from never drove it. So it's new shocks, new springs tailored to the front axle weight, rear stabilizer, Safety Plus Steering stabilizer, rear sumo springs. It already has upgraded sway bars that are 1 3/4" with poly bushings. I hope that does it. Jeeeeez What a learning curve! I think I watched over a thousand videos in the last 2 months. You should keep on keeping on. You might give Chris Fix a run for his money.

Glad to help. These chassis are getting older and need a good bit of maintenance. It would be cost prohibitive to have to pay someone to do it for you.

My right front spring broke in two. Its not a common problem. Freak deal actually.

It looks like you already had Supersteer blue coil springs. Did they warranty their part?

Thats very observant. Yes, the old springs were Super Steer. They sent me free replacements immediately with zero questions. According to the person I talked to, of the thousands of springs they have sold over the years, they have only seen maybe six break. My luck I guess.

I have a 99 Workhorse P32 Chassis with the Chevy 454 7.4...I'm gonna rebuild the complete front suspension..I want to buy new control arms with the ball joints..Do you or anyone know the part number for a replacement A arm?? These motorhomes are a pain in the ass to find parts..It's a Daymon Daybreak..they should have made a build sheet for the owners with all the part numbers of each part used..mine has Air bags inside the coil springs and no shocks

I don’t think anyone makes new A arms anymore. Unless they are damaged, you should be able to have the old ones rebuilt with new bearings and bushings. Contact super Steer. They are front end and suspension experts. Hope this helps

Check RockAuto, I got some clearance MOOG lower control arms but they have another set. Only catch, you will most likely have to swap the ball joints to the K6511 as mentioned in the video. Mine came with the smaller ball joints and they do not work. But the arms are solid 👌
