A buddy of mine from high school is a welder on a major cruise line. He specializes in under water welding. He usually only works while at port unless something happens. His wife is a nurse and they have been lucky enough to work on the same ship. She works mainly at sea when people are aboard. But they love it and have saved a ton of money over the past 15 years. They don't want kids and are frugal so the cruise life suits them.

I'd love to know what was your worst experience on the cruise ship and what was your best time you ever had on a cruise ship. I can tell you mine. I'm feared of pools. And I got brave enough to sit on the edge of the pool to dip my feet. This was a huge step for me. The fear of pools has been something I always had. Never learned to swim the fear was so bad. Seriously I would pass out if I looked to the bottom of a pool. Any ways some guy that was drunk thought I was someone else from behind. He thought it would be a great idea and push me in. That was the worst experience. The best was the captain found out about what happened to me and they changed me rooms. This room was amazing even had a piano in it. It was huge. Also recieved a free cruise all expenses paid. I didnt ask for none of that. I was just ready to get off at the next port and fly home. So my worst nightmare turned out to be something amazing but I will never ever go by a pool again. Lakes oceans dont bother me. I know I'm weird.

Isn't it crazy how you start to work on a cruise ship full of hope thinking that you will definitely see so many great places and live like you are on vacation every day just because you will get to see countries that are so different than yours and then you realise that you are just exhausted physically and mentally (from working and dealing with all types of people) most of the time and you are veeery lucky if you have a schedule good enough to get let's say 2 hours to get off on port (but you're still on a rush so you don't get to enjoy that fully either) and you swear you'll never come back for another contract cuz' it's not worth it BUT then your contract is almost over and people start signing off and you're like "wait maybe I will actually miss these annoying humans" 🙄😂 and then you get to sign off and feel so excited like "yeah finally" and get home, rest your body and mind for a few days and then it hits you.. "wait I actually can't wait to go back"..... Cuz' in a strange way you realise you enjoyed it and the difficulties changed you and you learned a lot and now you know how to approach certain situations and not to let yourself lose focus or get frustrated but stick to your plan and make the best out of your experience. It's still positive if it leads to GROWTH in a way....... (PS: if you are a beginner and think that working on a cruise is just a way to "see the world" you are delusional, so you need another practical solid motivation to keep you going and keep you strong! Find another reasons if you start it!) ☺️

If something me one is terminated, how do they get back home? If a member shows signs of physical aggression, is there a holding area? Does security have access to weapons? Video cameras throughout?

Just listened to ten things you hated, makes sense to follow up with this. I am ex Navy and in comparison..I think the Navy offers a lot more fun. Our working hours are better, generally 7-4, better pay with ample opportunity to move up the pay scale. Better benefits, like full medical of course, exotic locations with free flights all over the world through the MAC program. Yes you can get a free flight for your vacation! To just about anywhere they military flies to,on a regular basis. (I’m guessing places like Antarctica are always a ‘no’ 😛). There is a lot of skill building from disaster training, firefighting, life saving, to the basics of conning a huge ship. The skill building it is built in to your requirements for advancement so laziness and lack of self motivation won’t hold you back. Depending on what kind of ship you are on you can also learn carpentry, accounting, management, and lots of diverse refurbishment skills are taught. I was only in for four years and to this day what I learned still benefits me. Far more than I got out of college which in comparison felt like I was being held back in my education, meaning they were too slow and boooooorrring as hell. I love science and my rating was molder (no longer a rating) and I made molds and poured hot metal to,cast into, various objects. I had to learn the chemical recipe to make castings of steel, brass, bronze, aluminum, whatever the metal was we had to mix in different ingredients in certain percentages so the metal was the correct hardness to to the job it was destined for. In college you’re lucky if you have any actual skills to,do,anything by the time you graduate.

I’m feeling somewhat lost in life and I was thinking about working on a cruise ship because I have nothing tying me down to living on land. However, joining the navy sounds like a much better use of my time and I’d love to learn new skills as I am very crafty and DIY. I’m 22, pretty strong, athletic and agile, but could always be stronger. The benefits the Navy could provide are very appealing to me, I am wondering how to get into the Navy? Should I reach out to a recruiter and set up an appointment? I did very well in high school but dropped out of college because like you said, too slow and I was miserable.

Sounds like a good way to learn how to do things.

@@kristacalai9773 I am a 20-year-old college student as well. I hate college, thus Iam also feeling lost as well. So much so I even thought about backpacking around the world.

Lisa I was in the Navy almost 8 years. The adversity sometimes goes through in the Navy makes them emotionally stronger. I’ve survived a stroke a blood bacteria and lymphoma cancer. Without God and my time in the Navy I would have given up and be dead now. Navy isn’t for everyone.

@@kristacalai9773 Pick a branch and take the ASVAB, BUT, if you don't even know how it works, "I am wondering how to get into the Navy?" Don't waste your time.
