Hi Scott, I have had a look in the new DAF's at truck shows, very comfy. Your gross weight on that load to Amesbury for an artic was lighter than my 8 wheeler tipper this afternoon, weighed out at Whatley Quarry at 31.500 gross. Also I passed my class 1 last week on the second attempt, staying put where I am for now, maybe look around for something different in the spring. Have a good week out and about

The cameras are a poor replacement for wing mirrors. We have 15 of the hideous things. Reduced visibility in that the cameras are like looking at a 1980 s video, no depth or perception, no interaction with other drivers behind you. You can’t see if people are flashing you in or out very well. Night time driving is like having cataracts with car headlights, the cameras do not pan automatically reversing. How these hideous inventions have been OK d by the industry escapes me. The unit is fine but cameras are a big no and in my opinion unsafe, none of us like them.

@gwandao....thank you for this very detailed - and I may add, very justified - critique about mirror-cams. And I agree with you wholeheartedly. Let's hope, that like any other fad, they'll be outlawed one of these days, hopefully sooner than later. This opinion provided as a "public serviceannouncement" by a Canadian professional driver with in excess of 5.5 mio accident-free kilometers under his belt, half of which with Class 1/HGV/Lorry since 1974.

Absolutely agree, all our xg's have cameras instead of mirrors and yes , Absolutely bloody hopeless. The idea is sort of OK I suppose but daf must have bought a job lot from China for a tenner. Talking to a bloke the other day and the company he works for have had daf fit proper mirrors on the whole fleet.

Take away sat navy’s ‘power steering sleeper cabs air con auto gear boxes radios cb’s air assisted seats . I spent six months learning to sheet and rope all types of loads .I thought I was lucky if I had a radio back in the 70’s you had to drive a lorry crash boxes . We had no mobile phones not Many miter ways had to use A and B roads . In my day drivers would stop and help each other . When I retired in the 2000,s even your own work mates would not help you . To day with all the technology on lorries we are one step from not needing a driver as lorries and sat nav’s do most of the work and as a lot of comments now say that drivers are only steering wheel attendants

Daf must a had so many complaints about that warning noise over the years that they finally changed it. I spent 9 months in a 2016 Daf skip lorry putting up with that noise. Then I got put on a Dennis elite bin lorry who's hazards indicators make a horrendous noise. I mean who comes up with these ideas ? When safety is compromised with loud unnecessary noises that distract you when you're trying to reverse 😡

I’m not a fan of the ones in the merc I find it harder to get straight when reversing on to bays for some reason. Give me a set of proper mirrors and no problems. Can you still get hold of the Scott Andrew’s hoodies?

What’s the steering like on those? I drive a daf rigid and the steering is quite heavy wich is annoying plus driving position isn’t great but it looks really good in the artic.
