Thanks Sean, for info of others I had a crack at mounting one of my models on acrylic rod but didn’t have a heat gun so used my wife’s hair dryer, it is a top end model with numerous heat settings and comes with an attachment to concentrate heat into a smaller area...took a bit longer to soften and I only used 6mm rod but did the job if you don’t rush it...cheers Mick.

That jig is really creative! Bending/shaping the acrylic rods for my models is my least favorite part right after the ordnance and I almost always leave it till the very end. I’ve been tempted to try and make a template out of wood with a router and then stick the entire rod, not just the tip, into the oven at like 200° or so till it gets pliable and then stick it into the wood template.

Your skill is incredible...congratulations!! I've thought about using this transparent material to simulate that cone of fire from the afterburner of a hunting... but I haven't tried that effect yet.

This came with perfect timing! I’m about to do my second only model in flight using acrylic rods. The first was a 48 scale Blue Angel A-4 and I finally scored a 72 scale Blue Angel F-18! The first one actually came out fairly well so I’m excited about this video in hopes my next one will be spot on! I will also be using your base building techniques as well! Wish me luck!😅

Very informative video. Noticed you use a "shot" glass......if you break a rod that glass can be used for other things!

I laughed out loud at "that's what she said!" however, my wife did not think it was funny. i was wondering how stiff the 1/8 in rods are. would 1 vertical rod sticking straight up be stiff enough to hold up a 1/48 f14 or do you think i need the the 1/4 in? thanks!

How do you prepare kit for the rod? Whether it’s into the jet engine exhaust or underneath into the fuselage? Thanks

Really nice demonstration. How do you decide where to mount the tube to the plane? If it’s not a jet, and has no large exhaust, then you just drill a hole in the bottom? Thanks

@raimee81
@raimee81 2 жыл бұрын
Very helpful! I do have a question. What do you do on the model kit side other than of course, drill the hole. Do you need to do any filling to give something for the rod to hold on to?

How do I get a clean cut with no marks at the end? Thanks
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 6 ай бұрын
I haven’t found a way to do that and in my opinion it’s not necessary. Because both ends are going to be hidden from view, and to allow an easier fit, I file off the sharp edges on both ends then hit them with a sanding sponge.

I'm looking to do an offset so I'll be 90 flatten and 90 back up any any ideas would be helpful thank you.
