Im currently trying to get as complete samhain collection as possible (CD source / digitally) I think ill just bite the bullet and purchase the box set soon. Any other ”releases” or sources I should know of or look into? I think I got the original mix of Unholy Passion off youtube and off black dream bootleg. Im not sure though, I have to compare the sound when I get the new mix version with the box set. That being said im trying to complete the Danzig and Misfits collections too soon. Ive listened them for years but I really want to build a solid digital library as complete and accurate as possible

I believe that the guitar Glenn is playing in the home video, is a Gibson GK55. it has a Les Paul shape but was not sold necessarily as a Les Paul. It had synth capabilities.
@Frumess2 жыл бұрын
That Les Paul talk seems to have really started when Danzig formed.
@thejtotheb54192 жыл бұрын
what's funny is that he's so hard on making the point that he *only* plays a Les Paul, and it's technically not even an actual Les Paul. it's even got a bolt-on neck, lol. really interesting guitar though, i only just found this out myself a few years ago. i went thirty years wondering what model "Les Paul" that was. had to laugh. nice to see that he's still got it, i wonder when he first bought it. ... btw - the GK-55 does NOT have "synth capabilities", but some (including his) did have active electronics by Moog inside.

Glenn's a piano player. On the [Misfits] box set, the Eerie Von layout has Glenn listed as playing the "Electric Piano". That explains the unusual progression of "Killer Wolf" (and a few others, TV Casualty for example) but there is no denying that he didn't point at the fretboard for John Christ and tell him what solo to play. Ah, don't care! Danzig fan all the way! Stoke the hellfire Glenn!
@phantom_troubadour2 жыл бұрын
I love when this stuff adds up. This is a great argument for those who think Glenn was the eclipsing visionary of the Misfits. Glenn was lucky to have all the band members that found him back then, visionary or not.
@Frumess2 жыл бұрын
Except he was absolutely the eclipsing visionary, but he had help in arranging things. Even GD has acknowledged in interviews that his players add their own flavor. Especially interviews from 90-95 and especially with John Christ.

He was beyond lucky to to get a player like John Christ or a drummer like Chick Biscuits. And Eerie was the glue holding those personalities together.

I forget which recent video of yours Frumess it was that I saw, but isn't there a theory that Glenn was the 2nd guitar player on the Static Age album? Got to think that he is a better guitar player than anyone gives him credit for. Glenn was the driving force for these songs with Veto power. I'm sure musicians contributed with a riff, lick, or arrangement ideas but I wouldn't give them songwriting credit.
@Frumess2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a clip from a show I did with Robby Bloodshed. I am pretty sure its widely acknowledged that GD played guitar in some capacity on Static Age. I can't remember if I asked Frank about it.
@seanB812 жыл бұрын
I think Glenn’s abilities on instruments are not technical in the typical sense but I think he’s great in his own right because of his creativity and his uniqueness. I’ve heard Todd Youth say that nobody plays guitar like Glenn. Jeff Chambers said Glenn opened up his eyes and brought his skill to a new level. London May, Steve, Johnny Kelly and John Christ have all mentioned Glenn’s great/odd timing and sense of rhythm that only he can seem to nail down and make work in a song.

I’ve always assumed he came in with a barebones skeletal frame, and the other guys would help spice it up…ain’t no way he was writing Biscuits drumfills😂. The guys NOW very may well be playing his songs note for note, cuz there IS a clear difference between Danzig1-4, and everything after.
@jrkchannel372 жыл бұрын
it aint no mystery , baby not to me! ;-) Another good example is actually Jim Morrisson and how the rest of the Doors would listen to him hum melodies and other ideas, and theyll translate/convert it musically. GD would at times have the "foundation" of the song , but the band would arrange it and put riffs on top. Dunno how it works in US , but here in Scandinavia , I f ex can be the songwriter , but other people/musicians can get a cut for procents of arranging the song. I mean when it comes to royalties.
@Frumess2 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that about Morrison. I always thought he was simply a vocalist and poet.

@@jrkchannel37 legally, a song is identified by the melody and lyrics and not riffs. Although JV and I have debated this endlessly and it's difficult to pin it down as exactly one thing.
