I must admit I was quite judgy on magnus’ play in the start of the tournament but man seeing him play and win against these top gm’s is just such a treat. Really like him as the WC really pushes chess forward

actually the line at 22:10 after the check was to take the bishop the black queen takes back and then white takes the rook with check. Thats how you win.

I've replayed every match ending in a victory in this tournament. The only recognizable player is Magnus. He has a style apart, and a joy to watch. Next to him is Shakh, but not close. Historic times

There are rules in chess, like the rule of the square. And one rule is never play f3 by Ben Finegold and the other is never trade Queens against Magnus Carlsen as he himself said on stream is the greatest endgame player ever. Caruana forgot those rules leading to a lost position.

I just made a comment that should have been funny combining the memes of Ben Finegold explaining to never play f3 and Magnus Carlsen saying that you shouldn't trade Queens with him as he is the best endgame player in the world. Caruana had a really good position this game, and it was perfectly logical to trade queens from a human perspective. In the end the trade only benefited Magnus. When a high level chess players calls themself the best end game player of all time, it's straight out arrogant. When the world champion calls themself the best end game player of all time, it's straight out true.

There was a case for Fabi trying to give back the exchange to get into an opposite coloured bishop endgame situation & Magnus was careful not to allow it.

The main Tata Steel tournament is so elite that you have to win a secondary elite tournament to even get guaranteed access to it. I don't know why that's so funny to me.

That last game was a work of art by Black. Proposed balance changes for next chess patch: slight nerf to pawns, planned knight buff may not be needed after all, allow bishop to move one square horizontally if it is a player's lone bishop

13:30 Levy, I remember you said something similar about AlphaZero vs Stockfish in that they'll give a little bit of material (or a lot) to their opponent, but their opponent then simply can't make progress. Magnus is playing AlphaZeroian Chess!

After A4 by black there is a spicy move that rook to b6 it "forks" the bishop and queen while preventing the pawn to advance. This is the Magnus vs Fabiano around move 24
