Did the owner have any specific reasons for the build, other than cool factor? I absolutely love building bikes from multiple years, manufacturer donors etc, but I can't really think of a reason to do such deep and difficult work, with no perceived gain, other than to make it a show piece. Great craftsmanship nonetheless!

We actually built this in 2018 as a tribute to the R1 turning 20 years old. So it was a way of embracing the old and the new in one bike.

It's definitely a gain cus the older bike looks way better, the newer bike has better suspension and more power etc so win win
