I think its so hard for people to understand something like this, myself included, because it goes against everything we are taught is important. Winning everything, longevity, earnings. But what an amazing example she is of showing us that there is more to life than just your job. And that you should do exactly what you think will make you happy.. This is really powerful.

Let’s not forget this lady has been hammering away since she was the age of like 5. She’s lived a pro lifestyle for 2 decades. 25 seems young to us but for her it’s been so long in that cycle. Really provides perspective of the men and and women who are still grinding i.e. Rafa , Serena. Congrats Ash, you are loved and appreciated. We’re lucky to have been around to see you play.

@Nycku007
@Nycku007 2 жыл бұрын
ATP had 12 years of inconsistency before Federer, from 90 to 02. Guess what has happening in the WTA between those years. Graf, Seles a few years and Sánchez Vicario were owning the tour. Hingis too towards the end of the decade, and the Williams sisters just started to rise and continue the reign over WTA for the next 15 years. People forget about that period so quickly. There were a lot more 1 or only 2 GS winners on the men's side between 1990 and 2002, continuing towards 2003. Just before Roger and Rafa showed up.

Only few years of those were on professional tennis court, if you have worked so hard for something since your childhood, if you have invested so much of yourself in something then you better go for a longer journey, she should better learn from serena, nadal, djokovic, federer that how to endure for long.

I can never believe Ash is 25…she has a maturity beyond her years. To retire on her terms is consistent with Ash’s approach to life and her career. I admire her for staying true to herself. She is quite the sports woman …the world is her oyster! 🇳🇿🇳🇿🐑🐑NZ Go well, go strong, Ash!

I am extremely saddened by this news. She is one and perhaps the only player who managed to stay normal and grounded despite achieving a tremendous professional success. I’ll sorely miss her tennis, and even more so her personality. I wish her all the best in the next chapter of her life. Hopefully, she will stay involved with tennis in some form.

She is very smart in her decision! Life is about enjoying every moment. Life is not about spending 8 hours in the gym/on court every single day! Tennis has provided her with a hefty income and she is now able to pursue other dreams, which are as/more fulfilling than tennis.

Justine henin did this too, retiring while number 1. Even when she returned and it wasn't quite the return I was hoping for and then she had to retire again, for real, without ever regaining what she had. As a selfish tennis fan, I am saddened by the nearly two years of prime Justine henin I was deprived of...and now the same seems to be happening with barty.

Whatever the real reason behind Ash Barty retirement is her decision! Barty is young enough to enjoy doing whenever she chooses to do with the rest of her career choices! Yes, it’s a strange decision leaving being number one but that’s Barty’s decision!

I can understand her reasoning but it's still hard to accept. Personally, the WTA/tennis world will feel so much emptier without such a talent. Say goodbye to 50% of the combined talent on the womens' side ! ☹ We're left with not much more than simple ball bashers now 😑 Ashleigh's announced retirement before the William sisters, Kerber, Azarenka et al just seems so wrong..

OMG what a shock to hear that she is retiring. I though at least she might have gone after the US open so that she could have conquered all 4 opens. She will be terribly missed on the tennis court, but if you are going to lay down your racket, why not do it when you are on top !! I am sure this is not the last we will be hearing about the great Ash Barty in the next phase of her life. What a wonderful inspiration she is, not only as a tennis player, but as an Australian. I know everyone will be wishing her the very best for what life holds in store for her next. We love you Ash.
