Why does literally everyone ignore the fact that the spirits are going back to their own world? The 'release spirit' page literally sends them back that way and says you 'sent them back to their world', they aren't permanently dead and stuck as spirits in the end. That's why the cutscene is called 'restoration'.

My take is that the roster cannot truly ever be too big as long as there in attention and care put into each character for aesthetics and balance, the hardcore crowd will adapt and evolve a massive meta while the casual players will be amazed at all the different options they have; Ultimate should be a base to just keep adding more and more into for years to come so we won’t need a “new” Smash game.

Problem with that is the Switch won't be relevant forever. Eventually there's gonna be a new generation of consoles and the one Nintendo makes is going to have a new smash bros. game, every generation since the N64 has had one. In a perfect world, this would be the way to do it. But even though Nintendo tends to prioritize their products over business, business is still important. Nintendo would be crazy to not make a Smash game after this.

No console in the world will have enough room for that many characters. And to be honest, I hope that never happens, since you'd run into a FIFA problem. As soon as a new version of Ultimate gets ported, your version is now completely obsolete, so you'd have to keep buying the game over and over.

In my eyes, they look to be representatives of the dots in Taoistic Yin-Yang. Which leads me to believe those dots are eyes. Let’s do a little experiment. Picture the yin yang as a face(it doesn’t matter which side is up or down). Have that image in your head? Good, now let’s get rid of Yin(white dot and black swirls). Now you have an eye that only sees dark, because it only sees darkness it is now blind. Now let’s do the same with Yang(black dot and white swirl). Now we have an eye that only sees light, and it is also blind because of this. Time to bring those together. With each other they can see not only both light and darkness, but also they mix together. I was under the impression that Galeem and Dharkon were both representations of the two names for the Devil: Lucifer, whose name means the shining one and was a son of the morning; and Satan, the prince of darkness. As they are two names for the same being, who is the Devil, the father of lies and deception, who seeks to destroy all that God has made and override the agency, or free will, of man. Therefore, the true ending, the good ending, only occurs when you defeat both Galeem (Lucifer) and Dharkon (Satan). As only defeating one means that you've fallen for his lies and deceptions. Sorry for rambling on a little. I'm a very religious person and this, in my opinion, makes the most sense.

This is why I like the "over-controlling corporation" as Galeem and the "toxic fanbases" as Darkhon idea... keeps the concept of Master and Crazy as being two halves of a whole, explains the multitudes of such entities, gives credence for why one of each are freed rather than destroyed (creators with conviction and reasonable fans)... Of course, that's for the METAPHYSICAL interpretation. Even to this day, I STILL don't like thinking of these characters as just toys or figures, and have attempted to make these events work as a "real" crossover ever since Brawl! The trickiest part this game though, that was explaining why spirits of fighters exist (outside of Classic mode rewards, as those obviously have no connection to World of Light).

You're comparing a collect-a-thon, stat based RPG to a fighting/party game. One is okay with having hundreds of characters, as each character is just a different collection of statistics and numbers that are calculated against your opponent's statistics and numbers to deal damage. The other is a real-time battle game where each animation has to have a well thought out arc, number of frames, active hit boxes, ext. Design factor withstanding, programing a new Pokemon probably takes a day at the most. Programing a new Smash character can take many MONTHS to tweak up and fine tune to make sure it is good to be distributed.

I’d like to think Tabuu represents societal standards and how they can control your will. Whenever Tabuu was defeated there was no more standards to overcome, leaving only your choices. (I’m going on the theory that the Smash Bros Canon is all inside a growing kid’s (The Player) imagination while they’re playing with their toys) The choices are determined by what you believe to be rationally right and what the unwanted consequences are, Galeem and Dharkon. However you have free will, the toys of the fighters, will fight for their right for free will. And it all ends and the deed is done, everything is saved but gone, however you remember the times you’ve played with your toys and let them live on with their stories by being part of your memory.

I find the interactions between Galeem and Dharkon interesting. Galeem seems to be the sort of entity that simply wanted order in an otherwise chaotic Nintendo universe. So many characters, each unique in their personalities and tones, Galeem may have wanted to make a world where something as serious as metroid can coexist with the campy world of Pikmin. The world of light was neatly constructed and attempted to make the different worlds exist codependently, all while giving the spirits bodies to inhabit in order to have a purpose in this otherwise empty world. Then we have Dharkon, he seems more like an opportunist, and cowardly swooped in as Galeem was injured. I honestly would have been content with just Galeem, Dharkon just didn't have the same gravitase as Galeem, but he does strike me as a proper adversary to Galeem.

I feel like the story as a whole was a message of sorts, because normally light is good, thats how its always depicted, and then the fighters all die due to the light and your whole journey is you fighting the light until you kill it, and without light darkness comes in and takes over, and you fight the darkness to bring balance. Then you fight both the light and the dark to bring full balance to everything, the game shows you can't have to much light and you can't have to much darkness, that you need to find the balance between the two for true peace

*Controversial* Subspace was nothing spectacular. What made it was the interactions and cutscenes. However! Subspace is something that can easily be improved upon and developed. World of light is a lesser product by comparison. The only saving grace is it's bosses, but they're too far between god knows how many spirits. It's just a hassle. Why settle for something less. Why not improve?

Because they didn't want to use all their resources on it like in brawl. A lot of the work in this game was in the base fighting. It's honestly impressive that we even got an Adventure mode in the first place.

The main game play of subspace if modernized would have been great, the story of subspace was amazing, ROB/the ancient ministers story was so sad, the only good parts of the story of WoL was "oh there's another world, guess that means there are more epic bosses that I have to spend nearly an hour of mindless battles that feel the exact same to get to there"

I think the theme of Adventure Mode or the message they were trying to convey is balance. Think about this. You have two gods. One represents light. The other represents dark. They seek to override their opposition. Dharkon wants rewrite the universe in darkness. Galeem wants to rewrite in light. Regardless everyone loses if either of them wins. The lack of balance leads to chaos. That balance is what Kirby and his allies were trying to achieve. The balance between light and dark. Order and freedom. Only then would the world know what real peace is. Everyone in the end united and triumphed in saving the world they held dear to them. Teamwork prevailed. The gods realizing the error of their ways revert into spirits themselves realizing that perhaps things are better off unified rather then opposed.

Theory time: Soooo what if giovanni went (after pokemon usum) to the final fantasy universe and catched sephiroth with a masterball and then tried to clone him like mew and so he made a wierd wing creature that stole the tech with witch Giovanni traveled trough dimensions and then traveled to the splatoon universe where it got hit with a lot of ink (much yellow) and then it went to marios universe and ate a super mushroom making it bigger (killing toadsworth in the process) and then went to kingdom hearts universe where it got trained by the master of masters but it eventually met a good and an evil master (no spoiler here) and thats how it got split into galeem and darkhon aaand then darkhon went his own way and trained some time with dark matter and marx for whatever reason but galeem sensed tabuh doing some crazy stuff so it went watching and when the fighters beat tabuh it went like "aaaahhhhh" and attacked them because it was bored. And thats where ultimate beginns. I do not know why I did this.

Meta Theory Galeem represents the super needy fanbase, Galeem taking over the characters and setting the world exactly as he wants (playing god, adding Bandana Dee as DLC, etc.), if you beat Dharkon in the final battle. Dharkon, represents either smash haters, media, or outside parties influencing the smash series; which depicted here, ultimately leads to all of the characters dying (beating Galeem instead). This shows a balance Sakurai wants to maintain between what the fans want, and time constraints / business / effort put in / etc. If you pander to the fans, it won’t be a good game. If you only go for money and ignore the fans it won’t be a good game. A compromise between the two is the ultimate meaning of the story mode. This is just a theory, a ga-

To be fair, he was ready to stop after the first game, and Nintendo more or less threatened him into continuing. So it's unfortunately not really up to him.

I think thus will be his last Smash game as a lead developer role. If there's another future Smash on a future Nintendo console, the lead developer role will probably go to someone else (possibly recommended by Sakurai), and Sakurai himself will maybe serve as only an adviser. Similar to how Koizumi was the new lead for Mario Odyssey, with Miyamoto serving as only guidance advisor.

Now, I didn't see the neutral/true ending being everyone being killed, but rather all the spirits that you saved from collective bondage from the two dark and light entities returning to their respective worlds. While it is a game mechanic, recall when you dismiss a spirit to get stuff from it, you are said to be sending it back to its own world, presumably to go back into its own body and resume its own franchise/universe. At the end of the true ending, its entirely possible that you basically did a mass dismissing of spirits (or rather, the two dying gods did) and the beautiful galaxy like collection of spirits swirling away into the distance was the visual of that. Perhaps the fighters got swept up in it too, returning to their respective worlds at the end of Sakurai's Smash Bros Canon. Returning to their lives, their battles, their own stories. The next time they all come together, it will effectively be for the first time again. And you better believe it will happen again - Nintendo is not going to sit on a cash cow like Smash and NOT use it. Even if its not Sakurai at the helm. Let's just hope whoever gets that torch has even half as much passion as Sakurai did.
