shame there are so many anomalies in the German ships with their WW2 Kriegsmarine flags, SL8 domed rangefinders and funnel caps - also a U boat shown is WW2 era. Still a very impressive way of visualising the battle so bravo overall

The musical score when you introduced HMS dreadnought, it was just phenomenal. I’m sure this project was absolutely mammoth in proportions, so you have a most sincere bravo. I thoroughly enjoyed these 14 minutes. A good blend of historical knowledge, and very well executed footage from World of Warships. If you were to make another one of these, I would most certainly dance at your wedding.

Both my grandfathers served as POs at Jutland (one in ‘Iron Duke’, Jellicoe’s flagship, the other, I was told, in the destroyer ‘Hardy.’ I never met him as he died during WW2.) My surviving grandfather, who died in 1965, could never understand why the battle was not a resounding victory and, like many of his contemporaries, had little to say concerning Adm. Beattie.

It would be fun to replay the run the to south and north (battlecruiser action) with real players, same with other naval engagements.

This is a great documentary and the inclusion of WOWS footage really gives you a sense of scale and just how many ships were deployed to this pivotal battle. One small nitpick of mine is that the 5th Battle Squadron consisted of four Queen Elizabeth class super dreadnoughts during the battle of Jutland. HMS Barham, HMS Warspite, HMS Valiant and HMS Malaya.

jellicoe and beatty werent expecting the battle. they sailed after the plan was revealed but an arrogant british captain or commander rank officer dealing with the civilian codebreakers asked a specific question which would not elicit the information he wanted. while in port scheer used the callsign 'Jade' and the officer went to the code room and asked 'Where is Jade' and was told 'Jade' was in the Jade river i.e. in port. the captain turned round and left, having had no respect for the codebreakers maybe because they were civilians. he had the admiralty signal jellicoe and beatty that the german high seas fleet had not left port as planned, leading to both officers mistrusting admiralty intel once the battle began. the issue had been that Scheer habitually used a different callsign for the fleet when at sea. it was a case of having a little knowledge being a dangerous thing.
@davidhines7592
@davidhines7592 Ай бұрын
additionally, after the main fleet engagement ended with the second turn away, night was falling so jellicoe had beatty and a cruiser screen off in the believed direction of the high seas fleet and attempted to stay between scheer and the most likely shortest route to port. beatty was sure he knew where the high seas fleet was. jellicoe after the long day, had the destroyer screen follow the fleet. the intention was to avoid friendly fire incidents by dreadnoughts or cruiser at night, which the grand fleet had never trained to fight during and had very poor equipment for (such as searchlights without shutters which had to warm up without producing much light at first, just enough for an enemy in the dark to shoot at.) it was also to detect any attempt by scheer (whose ships had iris shutters on searchlights and could warm them up before blinding an enemy with the full glare) to go behind the grand fleet and escape. this failed and the high seas fleet battered its way through the destroyers, most of whom either didnt fire or use torps out of fear they'd overtaken their own fleet and it was a huge mistake, or seemed far too concerned with maintaining station so they could deploy for the next day's fighting. it probably didnt help that jellicoe had sort of preached about using initiative when taking over the fleet but the existing culture in the RN was 'the admiral is essentially god and you dont question god', plus he had intricate detailed plans which pretty much precluded initiative for the battleship admirals and captains. so the high seas fleet went through the destroyers dealing death and carnage, and exhausted officers in the grand fleet just watched the light and sound show move across their rear without figuring out what it must be.

Its really funny how much a "faces to names" this is, I know the names but didn't know whom they were named after. Nice shot of muiltiple ships sinking together that was great. I would like a little more editing to point out which side is which on the aerial shots, but that was really cool.

There is some context to be noted for the quote by Foch at the end of the video... Many assume that Foch made the quote for thinking that the treaty was too harsh on Germany as this was the popular myth that historians have raised and repeated the arguments made by the economist Keynes and others... However, while Foch did equate the treaty to a 20-year armistice, he actually said it would be such because it was too SOFT on Germany.

Sea Lord, can you do an investigation on the recent stealth nerfs to the Ohio. Basically, now you can expect to do like 1-2k to a broadside cruiser from 8k distance. In my clan people who have thousands of games in the Ohio have switched to playing things like Kremlin because of it. Dispersion and/or pen-angles may have been what they nerfed.

Always thought WOWS should focus on developing early cold war 1950 to 1980 ships, limited missiles, poor defence systems, short range aircraft, early subs and asw, would be awesome... Cold War models all exist and easily "borrowed". would be really good game, long range until your dozen or so missiles are gone and then close in with guns to close...
