World of Warships Blitz - Russian battleship "Pyotr Velikiy" review

I'm back from vacation, so I've got some ground to cover. Let's start with the Russian / Soviet battleship preview, with tier 5 probably being a bit more indicative of how things will turn out.

I'm expecting a lot of that stuff to be either not online, in Russian, or both, which makes it a lot harder to find. I've seen scans of books on forums in Russian on cruiser development in the early Soviet days, and tried getting them translated, but it's a tedious thing. A lot of the more technical / almanac-style books on warships seem to go back to the 80s, when, let's say, the superpowers were not on speaking terms. Meaning it's not that this doesn't exist, it's probably just not easily accessible from where I'm standing.

The Russian BB’s are basically a line of draft designs except for the gangut. I believe that was the only real one.

They had a fair amount, in the early 20th they had one of the larger navies. Imperator Nikolai was the last one built I think, because they didn't get to finish the Soyuz.

yes since the gangut is basically a tier 4 version of the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya

@@FunandGameswithTerry Yeah they had quite a few pre-dreadnaughts but many of them got sunk or captured at Tsushima. The Nikolai was the last Russian battleship but never finished, and the Sovetsky Soyuz was an attempt by the soviets at building a battleship from scratch. That project ran into a lot of logical problems. Being that Stalin killed most of the naval experts in his purges, it was extremely difficult to actually complete such a massive feat of engineering.

Because it’s very difficult to get the reload down, I decided: captain skill, artillery maintenance, equipment slot 1: main battery mod I, and then elite gun operator for the elite bonus. Getting me a grand total of 8 degree turret traverse with more than 75% of my total hp below that is still 7 degree turret traverse

Yep, that's almost cruiser level. Unfortunately, the ship herself doesn't turn very well, which is why I ended up with mod2. I wonder if that's a peculiarity of this ship, or a general feature of the line. Time will tell.

Thanks for the great review! I was wondering if you could possibly tell me if it's worth it to go for the pensacola/dallas in the US cruiser line or starting a german line. I heard the german line is much better in terms of being aggressive, like the nurnberg. I'm new to the game and the highest tier ship I have is V.

The German line is pretty easy to get used to i got their cruisers and battleships and they all are pretty easy to get used to and adapt to the different play style of each ship

that'll entirely depend on how they function. We can't tell from the tier 5, I mean consider the USN BB line, where you suddenly switch from slow, tanky mid-range to faster long-range. I'm pretty sure the precise aim skill is going to stay, and we'll have to see if there's going to be a second skill. The IJN BBs have been fast-long-range-average-armour, maybe this line will end up being fast-long-range-good-armour, but dreadful manoeuvrability and difficulties against DDs? No idea, we'll see when the line comes out.

I had this thing for few days and it's ok, but definetly not great. Armor is good but guns have very unpredictable dispersion. Mid range it's really struggling with vertical dispersion and penetration. Up close its ok but lacks the knockout power. So far not impressed. Tier 3 ship is OP though.

I do enjoy the speed, and the fact that she can take a bit of a beating. The guns are trollish sometimes, I occasionally switch to HE against things like New Mexicos, 12% fire chance is RN level.

It's just another kongo but the only thing is the speed. The kongo is faster than Pyotr Velikiy

I actually think that Pyotr is the oddball among Russian battleships, as Gangut and Izmail were laid down, Sinop and Vladivostok have blueprints, Soyuz and Kremlin are another story. Can't they have just used the Imperatrisa Mariya battleships insead?

The dispersion can vary wildly, but we'll have to see. Precise aim skill is a good signal, wonder if they stick to it like on the IJNs, or add a second skill later.
