Also - the opening dances-with-torpedoes vignette is great - a new thing, keep it coming. Kudos to deltaforce_9 for being able to maneuver his carrier and land a torpedo on a destroyer at the same time. (His secondary gunners appear to have gotten into the locker where they keep the torpedo alcohol again. He needs to get his Master-at-Arms onto that.)

I think part of the backlash for Giulio Cesare was due to them moving it up a tier without actually making it good enough to be a T6. Remember the armor is terrible, the AA is terrible, the pen and range is fairly bad as well. The biggest factors making Giulio Cesare so good is that it's accurate, fast and increadibly stealthy. Honestly I reckon they could tone down some of those factors and have it work as a T5 but I don't really see it standing a damn chance against something like a NC as a T6. From what I saw Giulio Cesare in her testing phase as Giunio Bruto went from an OP T5 to worse than Dunkerque as a T6

Kamikaze is the one premium ship Wargaming has no right to balance. Before it came out those specs were on the Minekaze and it was as OP AF. They knew what it was, "balanced" the minekaze and put the OP specs on Kamikaze and happily pocketed the money. It wasn't a case of "oh dear, we messed up the balance on this new ship", it was "here have an OP ship and give us some money for it"

The Kamikaze R was released pre IJN torp nerf. When compared to the Minekaze of the time, the Minekaze was (slightly) superior: better rudder, better speed, and better AA (though that's not saying much about the relative AA strength), and the torps and guns were identical (though different gun arcs). At the time I preferred playing the Minekaze!! But then the Great IJN Torpedo Nerf came along, the Minekaze lost torpedo speed and damage, and became significantly worse than her Kamikaze (R)/Fujin sisters, while the Minekaze still does have better rudder, speed and AA, it doesn't make up for the bad Torps. I still miss the Minekaze with 10km torps!!! (which the Kamikaze never got).

Jingles, you have to remember that WG was looking at moving the GC up a tier in the MM, without changing anything else. I also remember the testers telling WG that the ship was OP in it's released state, and that it needed to be fixed a little more, but WG decided to release it anyway.

They nerfed the Sims and Atlanta in year 1. They changed the flight path of the shells making them impossible to hit anything at range with. Both ships were op at the time and the nerfs made them near useless but then they were buffed and added to the store again. They still are not quite as good as they were originally but they are powerful ships again, in the right hands, in the right battle. I got my kamikaze R for free from a mission if I recall.

Another big factor for a lot of premiums is they can take your best crews so Kamikaze is often played with full 19 point captains vs people unlikely to have 10 point ones :)

Kutuzov and Belfast were a massive pain before the smoke nerf and when invisifire was a thing but I can deal with them now so not fussed and I never had a problem with any other Premium ship either

To be fair, I think a lot of the reason the proposed re-balancing of the Giulio Cesare got such a negative reaction was that the tier 6 version that they gave to supertesters was objectively terrible. People who had it saw that and said, "I don't want you to take away my overpowered tier 5 and replace it with an embarrassingly bad tier 6."

Regarding the rebalancing (nerfing) of the GC,etc - I have a theory. Once WG realized the GC nerf, making it a Tier 6 ship, was going to be a disaster for PR, they decided to do the rebalancing in an 'alternate' fashion - through matchmaking. Play 10-20 battles in the GC and tell me how many times you're top tier - once, maybe never. I've seen the same thing happen to the Mass. That beast was running roughshod over everything from T6 - T10 in its early days. Now, consider yourself very lucky if you are ever top tier in the Mass. Every single time I take Big Mammie out for a spin these days, its a a tier 10 battle - its been rebalanced by the MM.

I have a kutuzov, and I'm definitely not disappointed, it's pretty much a Cleveland with longer range, torpedoes, and smoke screens, only gotta be 7.7km away in order to stay hidden in the smoke while firing, and with a 20km range, that's no problem.

Rob D yeah it does. Just 7 years ago I was introduced to Bohemian Eagle, not using this account of course, my other account that got taken down for NO reason at all. I was just a petty salt miner. Now, after 7 years of service, I am one of the few commanders for the salt mines. In charge of discipline and order, along with ensuring we meet our quota. It’s fun telling people to get back to work, and the punishments you can come up with are incredible as long as you have the creativity to think em up.

The CV revamp actually increased the difficulty of moving your CV, or that was my experience with my brief tries with the post-revamp CVs. I guess it can be ok once you get used to it, but these guys in the video are T4. As for Yuudachi, it comes equipped with extra Poi in the chat. Last time I saw Kamikaze for sale was before the Minekaze torp nerf. Kamikaze still has the old Minekaze torps, so I guess that can make it OP in comparison.

The main reason people rioted when the Giulio Cesare nerf was announced wasn't because they were trying to fix an overpowered ship, it was because they planned to compensate people who bought it with doubloons instead of a monetary refund. They always told us they wouldn't nerf premiums, and when they went back on that their word they would have kept our money anyway. If they had offered a monetary refund, or even a credit for the premium shop, I bet a lot more people would have supported the new policy.

As I discovered yesterday in tier 4 and below Random Battles there is one way new players are unprotected. I played six Random Battles yesterday. In five battles it put the experienced players on one side. One team always had clan members, and the quality of play on that team was outstanding. I was not on any of the experienced teams. We lost every game and badly. Could barely put upon a fight. The one battle where this didn't happen had only three players on each team. My team won but barely. I could tell none, including me, were very experienced. So new players are simply slightly sophisticated bots to let experienced players rack up their scores.

Wow! 8 fires in 66 HE hits!!! Thats what I call being favored by RNG! A few years ago, I faced one Kamikaze with my Kamikaze R. At that time my captain build included fire prevention (10% less fire chance). In 10 or 12 HE hits he set 2 fires in me, enough to burn to death. With my 16 HE hits RNG granted me only one fire that was instantly repaired! I´m sure he had no fire prevention on his captain because he had radiolocation. The diference between those two ships is that Kamikaze was bought and Kamikaze R was earned in missions. I wonder if RNG is payed....

Ah, the return of my favorite meme..."Let's Dance." Also, tier IV carriers...by using the boost consumable as a brake, can launch attacks within 2.5 km...just saying. Also, those ships aren't withheld from sale for being overpowered (WG statements to the contrary notwithstanding)...they are withheld from sale so that players will buy loot boxes to obtain them. It's a common business tactic among free2play games, create artificial scarcity to drive stupid people to the casino mechanics...thereby giving WG more profit.

You forgot to mention that they decided to rebalance the Giulio Cesare after they decided to sell it for a sizeable X amount of money in holiday loot boxes which certainly made people more belligerent of letting go of their OP battleship. I can't help but think that it was all planned out by some finger-tenting mastermind behind the WG marketing department to turn the community against itself on this issue and continue to sell OP ships without complaints. Hell, I can already see the Smolensk being taken off the shelves in the not-so-far future and being the centerpiece of next year's holiday loot box extravaganza.

The people who want premiums to be balanced are not necessarily the same that are against rebalancing. Having premium ships not be subject to rebalancing is like having the Revenant class or an elite spec in Guild Wars 2 not be subject to nerfs, since it's only accessible to people who have paid for an expansion.
