It was initially difficult to deal damage with her. Long reload and sluggish nature makes it difficult to position and really deal consistent damage as the game goes on. The guns are comfortable though and the planes are a cool gimmick. I have gotten about 5 games in so far and the 5th one was a decent 130k dmg game. I was able to support my team and take on other ships in 2v2 situations. She will not duel other BBs all to well but is great at supporting. Overall fun gameplay imo. (I havent watched the video as of writing this comment as to guarantee that this is my opinon).

If you really want to be carcinogenic, she is a disgustingy powerful firestarter. Between the 12 gun layout with decent HE and the Tiny Tims, you can force 2-3 perma fires consistently. Not the most interesting gameplay but she can do some nasty damage.

Its way to vulnerable to HE shells getting easy full pen. I brawled a full health one with a near dead Thunderer, killed it full health to zero in under a minute.

There are several mistakes in this video. First, North Carolina has 2.0 sigma instead of 2.1, and the Kearsarge has 1.9 sigma instead of 1.7, the difference between the accuracy of their guns is not as big as you claimed in the video. The main guns of Kearsarge will even have higher accuracy than those of the North Carolina’s since it has 3 more guns, and the ability to equip artillery plotting room mod 2 which greatly improve main gun accuracy. Second, it takes Kearsarge’s 406mm AP shells 12.68 seconds to reach its default max firing range of 19.6 km, and it takes them 15.6 seconds to reach the max range of 22.7 km with artillery plotting room mod 1 equipped, not the “twenty or thirtyish seconds” you claimed. Third, the side of Kearsarge’s hanger has 19 mm of armor, as you stated in the video, but the Italian 90 mm secondary guns can only penetrate 16 mm of armor, thus they will not be able to penetrate the armor of Kearsarge’s hanger.

And that's even if Italians get that close to hit the hanger itself. That 38mm top is tough enough to resist most low-cal HE spam which is nice because it has no saturation.

As someone with pretty much all the coal ships I wanted and who play a lot with North carolina, iowa and Montana, this is pretty much familiar territory and a good captain trainer/credit farmer. I don't use it's planes as much as I expected. Mostly for opportunities to finish a wounded target or support my team until I can get in attack position with the guns. If they bring back those apocalypse permanent camo back, I will definitely put one on it and make it look even more insane than it already is. Also having encountered and fought against a Kearsarge in my Alsace, it's super structures/hangar is easy to hit and farm by he shell and any battleship caliber ap which according to the wiki does not saturate.

NC has 2.0 sigma, Kearsarge has 1.9 sigma. If you are comparing their accuracy, Kearsarge is way better because she has access to -11% dispersion buff in slot 6 and she has one more turret, more shells more chance of hitting the target.

I heard on Flambass' stream last night that the Russians asked the US for help designing & building a battleship for their navy. The US drew up this ship. The Russians took one look and allegedly walked out. Guy who told the story is a naval historian, so... What bothers me about the ship is that I play Co-op exclusively. on the SEA server, they rarely go longer than five minutes. That's two flights of aircraft, which is this ship's main gimmick. Not sure it's worth that much coal for Co-op players...

@@henryboleszny359 The Soviet asked for a 45k tons battleship, the Gibbs company just smash their way and designed a 72k tons battle carrier, breaking all kinds of treaty and none of the Soviet shipyard can build that so ofc they'll reject it. Remember that Kearsarge also has 12 very accurate 406mm gun that can cause some havoc.

I got this ship with coal, it is a really fun hybrid ship indeed. Having a 10 point captain with conceal and main battery accuracy is critical as that ap despite it being us bb slow can still hit well. I use the rocket planes against ships like the gk and kremlin. Sometimes can work against cruisers if you time it right, they can shred the flight quickly if you don't fire the rockets fast enough.

How does that work where you jump back to your ship before your rockets fire? If you hit 'recall' once an attack is initiated is there a delay until after the ordinance is dropped? Does it work this way for all CVs?

I'd argue that Ise and Tone are fine. Ise's guns can hurt but they're middling at best for her tier, and Tone has a typical Japanese heavy cruiser battery but slightly worse. Their airplanes only work well if you hit almost all your torps, but even then you can't nuke anything. Kearsarge, however is a friggin Death Star.

Am I dumb or was the plane aim at 12:30 way off and somehow you still managed to land most of your rockets? Do the plane rockets hit everything in their path if you aim a bit farther than where the enemy's position is? Is it a replay bug? Because your aim was a bit late there.

Artillery Plotting Room Mod1 does technically improve dispersion at lower ranges since you get a range buff, but the dispersion doesn't scale up the same with range, so it does get better a bit at lower ranges, atleast from what i've heard from a few comments.

For vertical dispersion, it does actually start to get better at ranges sufficiently long for shells to plunge, which only admittedly happens to any great extent with low-velocity long-range guns in game, but these are exactly the things the Kearsage is packing. Now hoizontal dispersion is a different beast entirely. That does scale more or less linearly with range. So, you were not completely wrong at all. (Vertical dispersion is complicated, and that is one of the reaons there is no single aparameter that they show in game for it - and indeed any paramater for that matter - because it depends on the angle the shell is falling at).

To my defence, you wouldn't think of WG being smart/dedicated enough to make that difference^^ having said that, the Airplane doesnt change the Dispersion at basic range but it does on the expanded range? Hmmm well i guess it depends on how they actually do the extended range. Not much to change though, either the angle of Guns, wich can't be as they have to be at max angle for "normal max reach", or the propellant to make the Shells go faster. Are they cheesing it? :D

Thing is, though, before everyone screams "OP!!!"... SAP absolutely massacres the Kearsarge, on account of that huge infrastructure you can't possibly miss even with Colombo dispersion. It's actually a bigger unarmoured target than most actual CVs. Even a potato like me can farm it just fine. Well, actually I've been farming it with my Marco Polo, but any other SAP ship can farm it. Colombo, Lepanto, Venezia, you name it. Burns pretty nicely when I play my Conqueror too. In fact, generally, switch to HE so you don't overpen it if you don't have SAP. Or better yet, make a division with a high DPM SAP ship and a fire-starting HE ship, so one can demolish it with raw SAP damage and the other sets 4 fires on it. That way you don't have to compete for the finite number of fires.

Uhh Do you know, an angled Kearsarge at 15km is actually very hard to kill? The 38mm eat and bounce everything, and small island too. Also, at that range SAP don't have the ballistic to hit the superstructure, instead they'll go for the deck which will bounce.

So, this thing isn't actually entirely paper. This is a real design that an American shipbuilder put together for the Soviet Navy, which didn't have the resources to build both BBs and CVs so wanted a purpose built hybrid. The deepening tyranny of Stalin's regime and the growing threat from Hitler and Japan put paid to this idea. Personally I think the big reason she's an American ship in game and not Soviet is because WG was cognizant of the outcry of Russian bias. Even though the Soviet CVs, except Nakhimov, are honestly fairly pedestrian, and so is this ship apparently.

I don't think you understand what "paper" means. This is a paper ship - it was never laid down; it existed only in the form of plans - on paper. The Montana is a paper ship too, for that matter, of course. Unlike say the Sovetsky Soyuz, which actually was laid down, even if never completed. So that is something you can argue was "partially" paper (its final details were never realised), but this thing, this is most certainly entirely paper.

Sure in the 18th century a proper "ship's model" had actual naval architectural significance, and in the late 20th century computer models were introduced that were also functionally blueprints, but this wasn't the case in the 1940s. The only models that had any real functional value were hullform models for water tank testing, but therse were entirely based off apper drawings. Montana was a paper design. No steel for her was ever laid down; she never got beyond the design stage.

@@merafirewing6591 I think you need to read what I wrote again. Of *course* there are models that have been made of the Montana - just like there are models made of *every* ship in the game of WoWs. Making a model from a set of paper documents doesn't magically make a paper design a non-paper ship, and it does not mean a ship "got past the paper design" stage. That requires some actual construction of the real thing in real metal - not the construction of a bunch of models. Again - EVERY ship in WoWs has been modelled - you can see the models in the game! If you want to consider the making a model as something different than making the design on which the model is base then then *nothing* in WoWs is a paper ship.

The Kearsarge combined the worst of both WW2 era carrier and battleship (really battlecruiser) design. In close up fighting she would be quick victim a light cruiser with 6" guns. As a carrier, she would simply not carry enough air firepower to make a difference. What a mess!

You're not wasting time spotting. if there are two or more ships, they can do more damage, than you (probably) if you keep the enemies spotted. If you are the reason a DD get's killed, or stopped from entering a flag area, it's not wasted either. Most CV players are too stupid and selfish to understand this, though.
