I never understood all the bad press about the Odin. I was seeing the reviews saying she was bad, the low HP, German dispersion on her main battery, the usual. When I finished her up in the dockyard I took her out to give her a try and I honestly started thinking people were purposely talking crap so people would play her and they'd have the advantage. The low HP is a pain, but, overall I enjoy playing her. She's really tanky, you can angle well with her, decent secondaries and she surprises people with the hits she can take and keep on trucking. I 100% agree with everyone saying play her like a heavy cruiser. Do that and you do great. She's definitely a ship I'll play as a solid choice for T8 BB in competitive games.

She does fine when she's not uptiered. Unfortunately, my experience was that I was bottom tier in 90% of my games, and that t5 hp doesn't last long against 18+" guns. Give her 10k more hp and a quicker rudder and she'd be on par with other t8 BBs

​@thepiratemongoose8965 nah she does do fine when uptiered. You play her like a cruiser when uptiered, making use of islands to get close enough to poke with secondaries, which is super easy since you can get her detection down to only 0.1km more than her sec range.

WoWS Community in a nutshell: Complain if WG releases an OP ship. Complain if WG releases an OP ship and then nerfs it. Complain if WG nerfs an OP ship before release. I really enjoy this game, but man do I disdain a lot of the playerbase. Odin looks like a fun ship too.

I enjoy my Odin. She's a very good looking ship and plays uniquely. I had a tricky game long ago where I had a CV and a cruiser I was trying to pin but an Iowa came and tried to finish me off. 16 inch guns are no joke so I used every trick in the book to protect myself and retaliate against the Iowa as it closed range. I can't remember if I torpedoed it or not but I do remember the Iowa being too cocky and showed broadside a lot where my 12in guns don't really care if they're smaller than average or not. Odin can pull her weight and it requires a very careful approach to playing, conserve HP as much as possible and commit where you can. If I recall every single secondary on Odin penetrates 32mm so she is pretty well set up to box it out. If I had to say her biggest weakness is fires but at least she has so much armor she doesn't take much HE damage. Very good boat.

Odin was the first dockyard ship I went for. Didn't know about all the nerfing that happened before hand. But I liked her then. And I like her now. Treated as a battle cruiser instead of a battleship she's everything I'd want in a German BC at that tier. When I do my "T-8 stuff" I always take her out. Her, Tirpitz, and NC are my T-8 BB fun times!

I love Odin, it's probably my most played T8 BB, essentially it's a T8 Graf Spee with better armour, because it is old'ish and not very common a lot of players in Bismarck's, DerpitZ, other T8's and in fact T9 & 10's do massively underestimate Odin, the Torps rarely get incapacitated, it's a fire starter, the AP can hit like a truck, AA's pretty good, it's got the Hydro and has a really good concealment range, by the time you get into that range the secondaries pop off.

I really love this ship. Ok 305mm gun is a bit too light for face some other BB but it's perfect for cruiser and dd, you have torp, you have hydro and even secondaries are OK+. Good mobility too. A good package if you aren't troll sometimes by accuracy.

i would like to see a special event come out using the ORIGINAL PR dockyard missions. i want to see how far my game play has progressed since then. i only had a few tier 7s at the time and limited knowledge of how to game the missions. when it ended i was 3 weeks behind i believe. back then we had the hall of fame that you went into after you completed the monthly/bi-monthly missions and only 78ish players completed all of the PRs missions to get there. the reward for completing the missions could be ship of your choice coupon.

I started playing this game when this dockyard was released. Sadly I didn't have the ships to complete the missions to unlock her. I really want this ship, I love Scharny and I enjoy Agir. I know I will like this ship, I just hope WG make it obtainable in some way again.

I have always liked my Odin, I have a few Krakens in it (mostly at Tier 8 mind you). Brawls are at Tier 8 right now, so I want to see how it does vs the Ipiranga. I have found that the secret to playing this ship, is to play it as a heavy cruiser, not as a BB. It´s neither an OP ship nor a terrible one, if you know how to play German secondary ships, it does just fine. It would be nice to see it get buffed a bit though.

I disagree! Odin is one of the best battlecruisers in this game. Used her to train german captains in the asymmetric battles a lot, had much very good ones between 300 - 400k damage. Only 7 random battles... time to bring her out and wipe the floor with Ipirangas. I`m using a tank/precision build on her, no full secondary. Just the skill for longer range, but i love her precise main guns with my build. She bullies broadside cruisers with multi-cits and has a good accuracy up to her max. range. She`s small and not that easy to hit at range, and if she take hits, she has a very good armor, protecting her really good. In the 7 random battles, she was very steady. Average damage 90k, max damage 133k, main gun hit ratio 36 %. She showed this in the asymmetric battles, too, but with better main gun accúracy because the battles were more close combat. I often scored 7 or 8 hits out of her 9 guns, that`s very good. Her HE is good enough to set angled ships on fire and destroy much AA and secondaries on them. And deadly against any DD that came too close.

Well if tier 8 was its ceiling or even tier 9 then yes it hasn't aged bad. However, all the new tier 10 ships would murder her, and really you cannot compare the Puerto Rico to the Odin, one it's tier lower and 2 it's nowhere near as competitive in day to day games. I think this is the real complaint about the dockyard Odin--- it was not comparing apples to apples with the Rico.

Having taken this out recently, I don't find it really good. It's a T8 Scharnhorst for all instances and purposes with slightly higher caliber guns and a little more streamlined secondaries that are not that useful (not enough of them for a tier 8). The Brandenbourg, despite having the same main guns is so much better at this tier... It has the Bismarck hull to begin with. That being said, contrary to Tirpitz you have an hydro on it, that's her only redeeming quality for me. Odin secondaries are nearly worthless and I am considering of making it a pure cruiser killer with speccing on tanking and main battery accuracy instead of secondaries or a hybrid build like my Tirpitz. It's maneuverable for sure but a Gneisenau or a Scharnhorst 43 feels much better in performance. You were lucky because after Ipiranga went behnd the island, you engaged nearly nothing. That armor is not that good against high caliber AP. Unless ou can reach torpedo range, your armor is not that useful as on all German BBs. Or may be the low HP is the culprit. Torpedo launchers are aimed at by HE spammers in Ranked and Brawls so they are mostly likely be disabled or destroyed before you can use them.

WG constantly reminds us to not bother with german ships. Agir got murdered, Odin got murdered and Siegfried got murdered. GK and Preussen are trash and if you want secondaries, there are far better options elsewhere.

Agir and Seigfried are situational ships. Agir is more of the close to medium range ship. Unless you are top tier keep the Seigfried at range. The Preussen is just fine. Nice reload on 457mm guns secondary are fine too. Gk 420mm just didn't cut it anymore hence they replaced it with Preussen

good ol' odin. Still a beast in 1v1 t8 duals (never lost to a t8 bb in her) or t8 ranked. but outside of those only useable in t8 or lower battles. still i do really good in her when i pull her out. have had some crazy good matches in her in the last year so it's not like she's worthless. her lack of AA and her bb burn rates are the biggest problems with her. if she had cruiser burn times or better AA she'd still be usable in t10 matches, it's sorta sobering though to get one shot by a columbo in a t10. first time that happens to you, you'll never want to pull her out in randoms again.

It has no value in competitive setting. 1st- brandenburg wipes the floor with it on all regards 2nd- congress also wipes the floor with it and its not a cruiser on a bb slot. 3rd- odin torp angles make it useless when doing driveby with any other brawler that has torps also stern armor is just a giant shellcathcer and its secondaries are not good or special it doesnt have high salvo weight.

Brandenburg without IFHE loses to Odin in secondaries, as 20 of her barrels are basically worthless, even with IFHE she only has ~5k more hitting DPM but has fewer fires per minute, Brandenburg also has a 26.5s reload with 1.8 sigma, where Odin has 2.0 sigma and 23s reload, putting the main gun DPM difference at 25k AP DPM, but in practical hitting of the target, Odin will land more shells on average leading to dealing more real damage. Brandenburg has a 1.24km window where she can be spotted that her secondaries can not fire, Odin it's 0.38km. Odin also has far better turret angles, allowing her to stay perfectly angled and fire all of her guns where Brandenburg has to show a lot of skirt. For what it's worth Odin also has more practical AA, where Brandenburg is heavily focused in short range that will never matter, Odin has 6km AA range with solid Long and Med range AA. It should also be noted that while Brandenburg has more HP, her superstructure also has higher HP before it saturates, leading to that extra HP basically being nothing because it's going to be eaten up before her superstructure saturates. Yes Odin has that rear shelf, so don't show her ass to your target and you'll be fine. You're in a brawler you shouldn't be running away in the first place. As for her secondaries being "not good or special" they are 128mm, meaning you don't need IFHE on her, meaning you have your pick of all the other 2 point skills where Brandenburg needs IFHE if it's brawling. As for comparison to Congress... the only plus Congress has up on Odin is having a radar. Congress has worse armour, and more HP in the extremities of the ship, meaning she'll take damage a lot faster as well. She does have better AP shells, but fewer of them. Not saying Congress is a bad ship, but as far as T8 BCs goes, her only benefit is the radar. Now if you were talking about Tirpitz... yeah she's worse than all of the ships mentioned. Brandenburg is a good ship sure, but Odin is far from bad.

I have Tirpitz, BA Tirpitz, Bismark, Odin and Bradenburg, and love them all but I will tell you that I play Odin more than Bismark and Tirpitz, and only more than Bradenburg because I just got it. Why? It's a good ship.
