Greetings Admiral, I don't play the game. I am former US Army Intelligence with 4 real wars under my belt. I grew up under the US Navy, which is why I joined the Army. I should have joined the Air Force, but my foresight did not exceed my hindsight. Now at 50, I have but regrets to fuel my days and nights. I watched you video on the Scharnhorst and I must send my compliments. That was the best intelligence briefing I have heard in years on both the technical and the tactical aspects on naval application of power. I am now convinced you would probably be the best at explaining to the current pool of fools running our global international navies into oblivion a detailed explanation that Naval Warfare with missile engagements is no longer the same rules as what was taught prior to World War II. Land and air launched missile systems nullify naval capacities in the short range while Sea Air power in long range retains both penetrating and punching power. The paradigm I tried to teach our Military Leaders in the US is land masses now equate to massive overly powerful warships with unlimited range. They get it, but don't. Thankfully, Naval warfare is not what it was. I am looking to join the War of Warships soon. It would be a pleasant departure. But for an old unemployed veteran with no credit cards. I think I will wait for a while before throwing my hat in. Kirk

Here's the nice thing about your videos: you take the time to review the ship and let us know how she does. Many on the NA server do not inform us about the ship. Instead, they tell us how good they are. It's amazing to witness the egos. Anyway, yours is the best review. Thanks!!

talking about armor in world of warships just doesn't have the same feel to it like wot. Yes, i have armor, yes i angle my ship. Doesn't make a difference, get damaged either way. Just keep yourself from the citadels is all you can do.
@62723554636378 жыл бұрын
The difference is that you can't armor all of your ship. It would sink like a stone (or alternatively have thin enough armor to be absolutely useless). Belt- and deck armor does work but even if you bounce everything that hits your armored parts, there's plenty unarmored stuff which can get damaged. In most cases that damage wouldn't actually sink a ship but the game doesn't really allow for disabling without sinking (especially since small turrets are much harder to knock out - before, I had plenty ships effectively disarmed before they were sunk).
@Sseltraeh898 жыл бұрын
well, you can allways consider being destroyed by depleting your HP pool without fire and/or penetrations as being so filled by enemy artillery shells you just sink under the sheer weight of it :D

@imflikyt8 жыл бұрын
The reason you scharnhorst struggles so much is that 283mm guns will overmatch anything up to 19.79mm. If the deck armour is 20mm then you cannot penetrate any shots unless they hit the side. A great deal of cruisers have more than 20mm deck armour, bow and stern armour. Where a 410mm shell(nagato) will overmatch over 28mm for consistent penetrations, the 283mm guns just bounce. A lot of cruisers have armour that will be overmatched by other battleships but the small calibre of the scharnhorst cannot take advantage of that mechanic.
@kevinpierce69558 жыл бұрын
thats exactly what he said in the video
@imflikyt8 жыл бұрын
Kevin Pierce He repeatedly states that you need the flat side of the ship, overmatch applies only to heavily angles targets. I think he means the guns have lower penetration (which is also true) but I'm not even sure if he is aware of the 14.3 overmatch rules and how they affect things.
@josephpoppe24668 жыл бұрын
Your math is waaaaaay off.
@imflikyt8 жыл бұрын
Joseph Pöppe where?
@josephpoppe24668 жыл бұрын
Over match, is when a rounds diameter is X times larger than the armor plate it strikes; if that occurs, then it auto defeats the armor. 20mm of armor will not bounce a 283mm armor piercing shell. The weight of the shell would crush through that 20mm tin foil. No matter the angle.

HE explodes on contact, and its damage is biased on how much armor is their... ap to the thick armor on a well angled ship will do 0 damage. HE to the thick armor on a well angled ship will do SOME damage...1000 or 2000 HOWEVER!!! ap on a broadside/weak armor will sometimes one shot the ship. were talking 90,000 damage per salvo...(theirs an over pen mechanic also...but...watch youtube videos) HE on a broad side/weak armor will do more damage..... 5000 or 6000 but isnt as good as he if your in a battle ship you almost never fire HE....unless its a destroyer or the ship is STAYING angled. the rest of the time.... your waiting for a good shot to land many AP hits...

Another great video Jingles..really love the historical information you put at the start of your videos for WoW and WoWS... I can confirm the lag on the servers recently has been terrible! I thought I had accidentally put some settings up or something and forgotten, my FPS was so much lower than normal!

Appreciate the history particulars, the ship review, and the gameplay. Excellent video! I agree - cruisers with torps will charge, necessitating escorts and if all else fails HE rounds while they are nose on with an eye to anticipating a switch to AP for when they present their sides to launch torpedoes. As rare as conscious and deliberate escorting tends to be in random battles, definitely need a division mate or two for escort.

I hate Imperial measurements for kanone calibre. Keep it metric so we all know what you're talking about! 28,3cm or 283mm! None of this 11" bullshit no one can be bothered to convert.
@deathlegionair8 жыл бұрын
American's learn it before highschool.

deathlegionair I'm sure I learned the conversion, but I can't be bothered to remember it.
@zackenfeild39598 жыл бұрын
Stop bitching he gave the caliber of the guns in metric too. Its just 11 inch guns sound a lot cooler than 28 centimeter guns.
@themightiestofbooshes94438 жыл бұрын
Right so a Jagdpanzer E100 has a 6.6" cannon and that sounds way cooler? No, it doesn't. It sounds like it has a pea-shooter. 17,0cm cannon? Yeah, THAT is a monstrous cannon.
@themightiestofbooshes94438 жыл бұрын
I know how big an inch is. I live in a country where Imperial measurements are the official method for conducting measurements.

Loved the content, the historical with the gameplay and your own brand of charisma make it a treat. I personally would love to see The Gneisnau, Scharnhorst, Bismark, Tirpitz, Prinz Eugen and Admiral Hipper divisioned up with your Dead Admirals Society and see a live stream match on North etc to show the couch theorists like myself what this sort of fleet could do if it was commanded this way? Food for thought or not. Best wishes and Fair winds and following seas

Seriously why are British commanders on warships so f*cking stupid? Lets attack two 32.000t battleships with a few 6" guns mounted on a passenger liner. The secondary battery on the Scharnhorst alone outgunned the Rawalpindi. RN tradition, engage when challenged by a hostile ship, dictates suicide by German battleship instead of the reasonable thing. You also could have "accidentally" transmitted a radio message out over long wave radio that you where surrendering, thus stalling the Germans who need to board the ship then, take the crew off and then sink the ship. That takes time and then the Royal Navy squadron close bye ambushes the two ships. You don't die, you probably don't lose the ship, you lured in a RN squadron and they dispatch the German ships. Then you go home for tea and deserved medals. And then the Japanese where the stupid ones with there Banzai charges. :P
@JaneCobbsHat8 жыл бұрын
Not stupid at all. Rawalpindi had no way of outrunning the Germans. She could surrender which would be a huge propaganda victory for the Germans and probably against all orders and rules of engagement or she could try to buy time until more Royal Navy assets closed in.

He was old, a sailor from a previous age. Old sailors are pretty stubborn. Not saying it was the right thing to do, but it was probably the only proper thing to do in his mind. That ship could never have outrun those battleships. It was run and die, surrender and (for him atleast) possibly die of age in captivity or fight and die. He probably wanted an honourable end to his naval career. Again, i disagree with that mentality, but i understand it.
@Myrskylintu8 жыл бұрын
And what of the other sailors aboard? Most of them propably were young and had a life ahead of them. Then their lives get fucked up over some old captain who wants to go in a blaze of shit. This is why I really, really detest military chain-of-command. Some fucker high up cocks up and the people below wind up paying with their lives.
@jakekillify8 жыл бұрын
Azure Templar Yea, it has its drawbacks. But if you give every soldier the freedom to make strategic choices from himself, you WILL lose every battle, you WILL lose more men than you would had you had them all follow one objective. Its not a case of the chain of command, its a case of someone in a position of authority who was not equal to that task. Jingles himself served in that chain of command, and he had nothing but praise for many of the officers above him.
@jakekillify8 жыл бұрын
Azure Templar Fact is if you argue about the necessity of the chain of command, any expert in the field will simply laugh at you and not give you the time of day to explain all the ways in which you are wrong.

Hello Uncle Jingles, First and foremost I want to thank you for your videos, commentary, greatly amusing personal storys and sharing fascinating stories from history. You have mentioned many, many ... many times that you attribute your success to the soothing nature of your voice and I would agree that in combination with your character(I do not use the word lightly) and personality have all been major factors for your success. With that being said, Would you consider doing an audio book. Picking a personal favorite and one that is not to long in length to avoid being overwhelmed with it's production. I believe that society is reaching a point where historical books are become less and less popular due the sheer size and effort to read them, and is near impossible with our sadly ADD society. I believe that you creating an audio book would open up a great number of your followers to audio books and the enjoyment and knowledge there in. I will guarantee at least one purchaser. Sincerely yours, Sam Tocci (pronounced S-Am Ta-Chi) ;)
