World of Warships- Thunderer: Still Incredibly Oppressive In 2024

Before adding modifiers to improve the fire chances, the Thunderer can start as many fires in a minute as the Smolensk. My wonkiest salvo was a long range shot of opportunity, over some islands, at an enemy cruiser, while its damage control party was on cooldown. RNGesus had smiled upon me and five shells landed for three fires. I would have felt truly bad, if it was not co-op, as no player deserves three fires after popping damage control. My best use of Thunderer AP was against two bot Yamatos that were traveling in a line formation with just enough spacing that my guns reloaded between passes. The first Yamato had been damaged, so it was only 11 citadel hits for two kills.

Thunderer was my 2nd coal ship on coupon. . Thunderer was simply different level, beat my old random dmg record even I wasn't good player, I felt that pinpoint guns accuracy even beyond 20km range (it was 24,5km base gun range before 2 sequential nerfs, 1st one was down to 23,6 I think). I remember Thunderer was good way to get report just for taking it into match.

as a british bb player, really got very depressed when knowing that the thunderer exist, and i just can't get it in the shop cause it got removed before i even started playing, yeah, there's still the container, but to get the thunderer, just imaging how mush it would cost if luck is not on my side, really want a black friday version of it, like the alaska, i'd instantly buy it, or just any way to get it, even if it's in the research bureau, i'd dedicate all my game time to go grind and regrind the harugumo line till i get it( yeah, i'm bad at dd, and well, i'd never go for the research bureau for so far

First, I love my Thunderer. Second, my experience so far has been almost the opposite of yours. My experience with her accuracy/dispersion has been disappointing. Shots go high, low, wide, all around, but none on target until I get much closer, like almost brawling distance. I'm going to take a look at my build and see if there's anything I can do to improve that, but I thought I did this when I first set up the ship (got her for coal just before she was removed from the game). We'll see. But yesterday I had a game that, although it was a struggle, turned out well. I tanked 2.9M PD (great maneuverability, and who says Thunderer can't take it), Dreadnought, and in the end killed a Maine that I had been dueling with most of the match. But again I had to close the range to do it; Maine gave me a broadside, I punished it, done. My HE spamming in the first half of the match was just not working well; shots landing all around targets at range, but few hits. I think I ended up doing about 16K fire damage off of 3 fires. Then switched to AP for the rest of the match. I seem to just about always do better with AP than HE. PQ was on my team in the match in a Wisconsin, and I finished higher than him in base XP. Only the 2nd time I can recall in six years of playing that I had a KZbinr in a match with me.

i never got the st vinnie, because when it came out i ended up in a 5 on 2 that became a 3 on 1 vs 3 st vinnies in a team in my thunderer. and ended up comming out on top. the last one took me down too, but 3 on 1 and thunderer won. because thunderer didn't need to turn broadside to get all guns on target like the st vinnie, and those poor st vinnies just couldn't stand up to the AP to the citadels i kept punching them with in between the firebombings i was given them.

It’s amazing how many people forget british BB have good AP. I normally load the HE as is better against the DD which like to go for first. However some people will then see that and sit broadside to me and get all surprised when load AP and smack them.

I unfortunately don’t have Thunderer, but I have Conqueror, and her HE is pretty nasty, so 18 inch british HE? Oh boy, the enemy can say goodbye to their secondaries, their torpedo tubes, essentially every module, other than their main guns.

The HE has 114mm of pen, so light Cruisers like Mino can even say goodbye to their citadels too........ 😉😉

I used Thunderer to complete the special mission on one of the phases that required 225k damage in a single battle. Done it on the second battle, on the first I had a smart enemy sub that kept me lit up and got focused before I could do more than 100k.

i am probably one of the few that actually bring thunderer into brawl range and shift between HE and AP rounds a lot but i also average a lot of 160k damage matches doing that. also i find that i am in front of the ships that have armor and or should be in front of me and dont ask me why other then to many passive players in the game that would rather sit so far back they hit nothing for the most part

I love playing my Thunderer. I always take her out when I need fires or fire damage for missions. Just like the Sea Lord did.

I never picked up the Thunderer, because at that time the ship felt too disgusting to acquire that I would feel guilty about having her, the same reason why didn't buy Smolensk, honestly I regret it a bit, because I had the resources to get her.

Same. Thunderer felt like it was a cheat. So I never got it. Also it was clear they were gonna nerf it. So I decided to take other stuff instead.

I picked up thunderer at the end of her availability. It was a toss up between her and Georgia, and in some ways i wish i got Georgia instead, but overall I’m still happy about my thunderer in port, even if I don’t use her much.

I'm in the same boat! Happy I got the Thunderer, But mannnn!! I do wish I had the Georgia in port. The fact that we still whisper her name is the reason why I feel we made the right choice lol

Yea just finished my grind. Was gonna do thunderer for the fire but there was something else i was pairing with it… i think i did colbert to finish out the “set 90 fires or floods” challenge

Do remember that when you see 63% fire chance, ships also have a fire resistance. Hitting a Tier X, with no other modifiers and not a CV {CVs have very poor fire resistance}, that 63% becomes 31.5%, which is still very good of course, but not as ridiculous. Most available mods reduce the fire chance further and the ones that boost it really aren't worth using on Thunderer due to its already high base chance and, relatively, low rate of fire. Those boosts are better for cruisers and DDs with high rates of fire that rely on lots of hits, each with a small chance to set a fire. 1% boost (.5% after fire resistence) means a lot more to a ship with an 8% fire chance base than it does to a ship with 63% fire chance base.

I don't like it when they remove ships or make them obtainable for only a short time. I don't play WoWS all the time and switch between games over time. It really sucks that I miss so many different ships, especially if I need to study for something or don't have the time. So here is the list of ships I missed that I would want to get: Wisconsin (was on vacation and missed too much), Puerto Rico twice (the first time was just way too much, and the second time I was sick and couldn't play), and the Thunderer (I almost got enough coal and just missed it). Alaska (I wasn't really aware that this ship was good until it was too late).

I think Thunderer's nemesis or kryptonite to Superman or extrapolation to it is the Stalingrad - I had some great fights taking down Thunderers

I don't have a Thunderer or a Conquerer, however I have an Azuma, so I was able to complete the fire damage quite easily.

For straight up HE spam, I tend to prefer Conqueror. 50% fire chance is still really high and the extra shells per salvo and worse accuracy mean that you set multiple fires with one salvo quite often. I think my record was 4 fires with one salvo but I've only seen it happen once. For battle impact, Thunderer is way better. Faster reload, AP which hits really hard and you get 30mm overmatch. I like both ships quite a lot but Conqueror is definitely more of a brain off, farm damage kind of ship.

Well it wouldn’t really matter what it was, if it’s bad for the game, it’s bad for the game imo. The truth of the matter is that there’s nothing quite as cracked as Thunderer was back in the day.

The biggest problem with Thunderer is that her reputation tends to make it the primary target of the enemy team. I prefer the Missouri because she is as good, has the broken economy, and is a bit of a sleeper.

Sea lord hates thunderer. Even though the ship is barely adequate right now as it is. It was fine before the nerf, hardly played no after the nerf. There are ships much better than the thunderer for fire damage. The conquerer doesn't have the reload and dispersion, but much more survivability, so overall fire damage per battle is much higher - why not complain about that? As far as ships that should be nerfed before the thunderer - that list is like 200 ships, so get off of it already.

It is good. Stay at range at first, so you don't get focused by multiple ships, then, late game close in and get aggressive.

I have the Thunderer, and I must say that I find it NOT that impressive. Good, yes, but great, absolutely NO! I consider myself an experienced BB player, but I have lost most of my battles in Thunderer going toe to toe against an enemy same tier BB.
